Jeff welcomes former Bonanno associate Gene Borello to the podcast. Gene tells his story from the beginning, born into a family with ties to the Mafia from Ozone Park and Howard Beach in Queens. We talked about his teenage years getting into petty crime and ultimately becoming a bookmaker, loan shark, debt collector, home invader and earner/enforcer for the Bonanno Crime Family under capos like Vincent Asaro and Ronald "Ronnie G" Giallanzo. An action packed episode filled with plenty of stories and more.

Way to go Jeff, this was a good one. And to Gene, stay strong and never give up, you have the truth and that's all that matters. Never make excuses and never go back in the pass, cause no matter what you do or say, you can never change the past.

Jeff- I just got a chance to watch this. I must say it was outstanding. You really have a gift for interviewing people. I thought you did an amazing job asking tough questions without causing Gene to become offended or insulted. It’s because you showed you were unbiased and just doing your job. Very impressive and very professional. You’re talented and no doubt you’re destined for bigger things . Can’t wait for future interviews.

Jeff I don't normally comment that often unless something really grabs my attention and I focus on the content and what is being said. I really appreciate the content you share with us and you are awesome at this craft. I believe I was fortunate to find one of your earlier interviews with Chad Mark's that came across my feed. I was hooked from that very moment, you have a gift or either a skillset you developed in journalism, when you do a show and it's just you telling the audience about the subject matter being spoken about by the time the video comes to an ending the viewer has a great understanding of pretty much the person's character and it's always interesting and you got it down to a formula where you keep it just the right amount of time where people stay interested. I also respect your integrity of the content you upload with approaching it from a professional journalist standpoint, you don't discuss hearsay, if you say it the viewer can count on it to being factual, you and Scott Bernstein are the 2 very best at this from my own personal opinion. I would also like to say real quick that this was by far the best Gene video I have ever seen with what you got out of him, respect 🙏 too you on your interviewing skills, I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to watch it just from hearing his story about 3 or 4 different times from other interviews he had previously done, I honestly have to say you got so much out of Gene it was like Iistening to a couple of Buddies shoot the shit, great job with this interview, I'm glad I took the time and listen, also congrats on your deal with Barstool also the best of luck with all of your endeavors, much respect.

I like Gene Borello seems like a solid dude. Yeah I know hes done crazy shit, but that's the life ladies and gents. His priorities where different obviously back then. Being a young cat in the lower branches of the Bonnano Crime Family isn't a small feat regardless if it's at the association level. The only way to advance from there is bring in money. The more you earn the more you will learn and climb the family tree. He was just doing what he was told by either the soldier or capo above him, coupled with proving himself as a viable money earner. The fastest way of making money is stealing money and things of value to build up himself by proving that not only was he capable, but also able to bring in cash. Cycle is simple but not easy if that makes sense. For example, he would organize a targeted home invasion (although I cannot confirm but highly believe where homes of drug dealers or pimps- not a happy suburban family 👪 with 3 kids) and organized a crew. What they would do is rush a home brandishing automatic and semi automatic weapons (I'm assuming 6-8 dudes with Borello leading the operation). He most likely looked at 2-3 primary targets simutaneously having underlings research their movements and trends. They would then plan the attack from beginning to end as well as exit strategies and contingency plans (aka the "what if's" Once all are on the same page as well as future paced (ex. "We rob this guy, your pocketa will be fat"), they would invade the home. Not sure if they wore masks (assuming they did) along with gloves etc and tied up the homeowner while they ransacked their stash. I doubt these home invasions where dice rolls. I'm sure he knew they where stashing significant amounts of laundered, drug, and any kind of money that the target had. I'm assuming it was probably other earners who where associates in other crime families. They would scrape their stash and leave probably via crash cars. For instance they exit the home, remove the mask and gloves, a team member drives up in a rental car where the team simply throws their masks , gloves , and any other article of clothing used to conceal identity. That car rgen drives off with the masks etc. Another car immediately comes up the opposite way, the team throws all their weapons and all contraband along with vadically anything incriminating. Another car comes and picks up the money/valuables obtained from the home invasion. The crew then diaperses to their rendezvous to cut the money leaving the victim (homeowner who they robbed) clueless as who it was. Let's say 4 of them including Borello snatched $500,000 from the robbery. The leader, in this case, Borello, would cut (divy-up) the funds to each team member in accordance to their status etc. Borello would then take a portion or tribute to the capo above him. I believe that unless you have clout, like Joe Watts etc, and are not of italian descent but due work with the family you would probably be under a soldier etc assisting them to earn for both themselves and tributes to the boss. However if you have potential on one day becoming a friend of ours, and are of italian descent on your father's side (this rule may or may not have changed where it doesn't matter which parent is italian as long as they can trace them back to Sicily. Many rules changed in La Costra Nostra over the years who knows. These rule changes coupled with poor judgement via leadership within the last 3-4 decades has led to its obscurity. Although La Costra Nostra is Sicilian born, Italy has the Ndrangheta in Calabria and the Camorra in the Naples area. They arent known as families either but rather "clans" Like the word "Kleenex" or "zip-lock" although a brand begins being the brands products universal name. The same goes for Costra Nostra. I believe they where the first to migrate to the New Orleans area of this nation. Soon after up north in NY, lucky luciano americanized the secret society to organize rackets by initiation, Omerta , stricked penalties, and utilized Myer Lanskis model of a organizational chart to build structure and accountability for all.

No matter what people say about Gene I give him a lot of credit for owning up to his wrongs and alot of times where he has went off half cocked he always owns up to it and accepts his wrong and apologizes to people for doing stuff to them. Seems like he's finally trying to really get on track and fly straight. Chalk it up to finally maturing and wanting more from life than trouble and what it brings. I can respect that. Much respect for that Gene and hopefully everything you are doing these days works out for ya..keep it up Man. I know all to well about being a street guy myself and growing up in a family that my grandfather was an associate to the Gambino faction as a bookmaker loanshark and stolen goods pusher here in Baltimore city back in the day....shit I'm under federal indictment as we speak over trouble with the IRS (tax evasion) are my charges..which wasn't my intentions but beings the feds wanted me to work for them and after I turned them down to be vindictive they took my tax troubles and hit me with charges before I could see the tax lawyer....guess what I've done in the past and what I'm charged with now is my Karma! And Jeff as always bro another good interview.

Gene is a good interview, his stories seem authentic and i believe he is being truthful. He openly admits being wild and considered dangerous and uncontrollable. In his defense he always explains "i was just taking orders". In my opinoin: Gene was dedicated and loyal to a few treacherous men running his neighborhood. He dreamed of being a part of this organization and would do anything to be asked to join. But these men never had intentions of making Gene a member. They used him and strung him along, never having a chance. His viscious boss would have gene do things to people that were not permitted in that life. (I bet) At sit downs genes boss would say " i never gave gene permission to do that, the kids reckless, ill talk to him". Knowing he is now feared more now because anyone that crosses him would to deal with gene and his crew of maniacs. 1) they never did or would propose him knowing it would be rejected. They created genes uncontrollable image to protect themselves 2) he wasn't an earner. It seems anyone gets in who earns now a days. 3) he had multiple family members in the life who became rats. They new these 3 reasons would prevent Gene from being made. So for being so manipulative and evil to an impressionable kid, they got what they deserved - jail. I hope gene becomes a kind, caring guy who redeems himself and has the best second chance at life a man can have.m

That was a great interview Jeff! I didn't really care for Gene to much at first but it seems like he's finally getting his shit together and I hope nothing but the best for him. I hope for his sake he can keep that temper under control. Anyway I think you're great at interviewing and would love to see more, keep it up bro. 💯💯💯

Jeff Great Video.. . Gene was heavy out there in NYC I came up in Bensonhurst Gene is legit rat or no rat. Just like myself he has businesses going that I'm doing or getting going and looking to bringing it to Florida. Food Trucks especially wide open down there like Jersey. Would love to link up with him we would literally kill it. 💪

I love listening to Gene tough dude, knew serious people, very colorful character, able to do lots of things. Cmon though when he says he was “almost” proposed? Even if he was who cares about getting made in 2010.After Gotti reign it got more and more watered.Look at the old timers quiet calculated smart and ruthless WHEN it’s needed.Recent times it’s just a bunch of gangs unorganized and ridiculous, guys killing one another all over the place for nothing.

If I would have grown up in the same environment in a connected Italian family I probably would have done the same thing. Since I didn’t and grew up in the west coast with good influences I went to trade school and got a job.

It's all over the different Italian neighborhoods in New York, alot of guys active in the streets or through family businesses get involved, some go all in with the crews, while others move to massapequa ,stay low key and only visit uncles and friends for family events and such now,..Alot of Italian crews growing up in Brooklyn, and my families sanitation business you had to be connected in some way to operate ,with such large interconnected families ,most where...
