General Chuck Yeager passed away last night on December 7th 2020 at 97 yrs old. A True American Hero who became an Ace Fighter Pilot Flying a P-51B Mustang and a few months later He was Flying The P-51D Mustang in which He could really out maneuver anything The Luftwaffe could throw at Him. I've heard Him say a couple times that Clarence "Bud" Anderson (Triple Ace) was the Best Fighter Pilot He has ever seen. (Bud is still living) General, You Are Going to be Missed up there in Heaven with Your Real Wings. RIP My Hero Brother.

Even the boarding ladder has been painted with at least four coats of that shiny new 'Flanker' Aggressor color. Those aircraft have never looked better. You couldn't tell that 25 years earlier, I was standing out on the same flightline working on that very same tail number in 'Eagle AMU' as an EagleKeeper. Shout out to 'Flanker AMU'! Take care of my jets! Keep those F-15's flying forever! Rest in peace, Chuck. You earned it.

John Stack of NACA risked decades of his career on supersonic flight and the X program. It was not a certainty that the sound barrier could be broken, many said it couldn't be done. He was a true hero that Yeager never acknowledges. Yeager knew when he got in that X1 Bell rocket that he would be hailed as a hero for breaking the sound barrier.

About 25 or 30 years ago I had dropped off my wife, daughter, and grandson at Grass Valley airport, and then had to return to Reno International. I taxied past a P-51 on the runup pad and saw that the pilot looked like Chuck Yeager. I thought it couldn't be...what would he be doing in Grass Valley? Later, I bought and read his book which mentioned that he lived in Grass Valley. Had I known it was he at the time I would have given him a greeting on the radio. Missed my chance.😖

@@erichhartmann1 They won’t let anybody in a fighter without passing a general military physical, though. Doesn’t matter if there are no high-G maneuvers in the flight plan - they still need to be reasonably confident that you won’t die if there need to be emergency maneuvers or an ejection.
@erichhartmann1
@erichhartmann1 3 жыл бұрын
@@F-Man They send you to a doctor to become flight certified, I am aware of how it works. My comment was regarding how Yeager was guaranteed no longer fit and in great shape as this original comment had suggested, he was an older man struggling to get in the jet. As long as you pass a general military physical, as you had even stated yourself, you can fly in this. It is not an overly extreme examination. My point regarding this flight still stands.

This is a "bitter sweet" recognition of a WW-II Mustang pilot who later broke the sound barrier in the Bell X-1 (or something similar), and now he's riding behind a guy who is piloting the plane and who probably wasn't even born when Chuck flew over the Rhine in 1945! I mean no criticism about this posting...I love it, it just makes me sad to see how we all age! As to bravery: chuck had more than "titanium balls"; he should go to Valhalla on the wings of a Valkyrie!

Chuck I read your book and took it to heart. It has helped me look at myself and given me some courage to keep living. Sometimes that pain of living makes me not want to live. The book also has made me realize how much a looser I am. At least I know in part I was born at the wrong time in history, and that is in part the reason I am nothing. I remember what you said, you were born at the right time. This has caused me to look at other great men in history when they were born. They too had the greatest chance for greatness because of the time they were born. My dad because of the time he was born had his moment of greatness with Audie Murphy. But I have 2 daughters and they look up to me and they are the only reason I keep going. I know how crushed they would be if I am not around. But men like you Chuck, give us who are weak a backbone to lean on. Thank you for that.

Watching him enter the cockpit, all I could think of was him closing it with a broom handle. Shaking his hand once was the thrill of a lifetime. 👍

That question 'Is this your last flight?' really sound like an insult.

Whoever was in charge of organizing this flight hated Chuck Yeager. Why are they using an agressor role F-15 painted in soviet style camo for training as the F-15 for this cerimony? Why wasn't the FAA controller already expecting this flight and prepared for it? Why was the pilot in command approaching the F-15 in front of Yeager? Disrespectful if you ask me.

Chuck used to come in and chat with me at my work in aviation. He was just all around a great person. Loved fly fishing. Outdoors . Years later i pinned the gears on the tigershark and put the ladder up for him. And he remembered me. I got to do a photoshoot with him But good that no one noticed i burnt my arm on a hot pt tube. Ill be dammed if i cried with chuck around.

Probably the US's only 89 year old to ever fly again. Yeager helped design and test so many aircraft from Korea all the way up to including the f-22. Amazing man.

In the time of that video, I can only imagine all the affirmative action spots were in place to ensure a display of diversity within the Air Force base. From the airman driving the vehicle down the flight line, the pilot, the Control Tower, and base commander.

Nellis air force base is a beautiful base, got the luxury of setting up and doing air shows there the last 3 years and meeting so many pilots and as a former pilot myself it's a dream being there
