I love this general mode. But Rome battles are too fast for my liking, not just because it’s hard to control but units run and fight unrealistically fast. So I always slow down the action to about 0.4X using cheat engine. That way there is no need to pause, the battle feels more realistic and is easier to control too.

Understandable! These battles are fast paced and rout heavy, though it is reflective of the battle style of the time compared to say medieval II being slower paced. It's nice to jump between the two games I find for that reason.

@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH indeed. I do appreciate the rout heavy aspect, it’s much more historically authentic, as you say. But I prefer the battle speed of Med2 (not to say that I want realistic 5 hour battles but units should run at a realistic pace), so slowing down Rome for me is like the best of both worlds.

I second this. Did a Byzantine campaign like this in Med2, was very cinematic holding out against the Mongol hordes in general pov.

I like how accurate the Historical battles are in these games. I don’t know how they know all the specifics for stuff like this or is it made up?

Most of the flavour text and commentary seems to come from the typical Roman sources like Tacitus, Plutarch or Cassius Dio and reflect the generally accepted tales. The numbers in battles are often off. Obviously the scale is smaller and the numbers are tweaked to reflect to battle experience and unit balance. Overall though, they do a great job!

I just love that games like TW exist as historically accurate as they do because as someone who enjoys historical accuracy but is willing to bend that for the sake of entertainment, TW does this perfectly
