As the US 1st Marine Division advances north from Nasiriyah towards Baghdad, 1st Recon Battalion moves to the east side of the town of Al-Gharraf to act as bait for the Fedayeen so that the rest of the Division to pass the town safely. However, once the Division has passed, 1st Recon's commander Lt. Col. Ferrando orders his battalion to punch through the centre of the town to re-join them quickly.

Weirdly, the show doesn't portray Colbert's vehicle actually driving into that mud, but it does portray Colbert's efforts to chisel it off the bottom of his humvee.

Likely intended to portray it, but ended up on the floor of the cutting room. At that point they're through the town, so the story flows a lot better to just end the gauntlet there, rather than add another 5-10 minutes of a stuck Hummer. I don't recall that part even being mentioned in Lt. Fick's book, so it doesn't seem it was a particularly important detail.
