I put a loaded hand gun in my sons room between his videos games, bed, and other great toys. But I am no monster. I made sure I warned him to his face that if he touched it trouble would follow and he would surely die. How else am I going to know if he loves me? So if he shots himself or anyone else it's not my fault, it's 100% his. I am the Dad!

@Emp6ft10in 6 жыл бұрын
Ya, as a loving father I figured if he was actually listening to me and staying away from the gun that it would only make sense for me to then let a really powerful and persuasive person trespass in there and apply some peer pressure. It's only fair to expect an inexperienced child who has never once faced deception or lies before will know exactly how to spot them and deal with it appropriately. As the Dad I know that's exactly what I would do so if my son does something different it's totally 100% his fault.

Yup. I was 17 when I decided to read the Bible cover to cover. I thought if it was the word of God it would be full of wisdom and when finished I would be enlightened. When I was done I felt like I just finished watching a horror movie. You have to really turn of your natural sense of morality in order to give God a pass when reading most interactions he has with his "children". Even his own son, the story of Jesus, which is supposed to be such a loving story -- God required him to be flayed up like side if veal or forgiveness of sins wouldn't be possible (really!!! WTF is that?!). Seriously, the God of the Bible is nothing more than the God of BLOOD. No matter what scriptures there are on how loving he is in his actual recorded dealings with people blood is his currency to buy, sell, and trade for blessings, redemption, and forgiveness. His actions show there can be nothing good without blood being paid first. It baffled me that here we had being who had the power to solve any problem any way he wanted yet when he acted his preferred method of choice was almost always violence, all the way up to his own favorite son being crucified. He is the God of blood.

What I always found amusing about the Garden of Eden story is that God put an angel with a flaming sword at the entrance to Eden after all the damage was done, but hadn't thought to put one by the tree that would be the cause of all the problems.

It does- For eg, Who MADE the fruit magical, and gave them the "knowledge of good and evil"? If it was Yahweh, why would he choose to do that, AND choose to put this tree in Eden, when he clearly didn't want Adam and Eve to eat it? And why couldn't Yahweh undo this magic? I know Christians HAVE TO work out some way to rationalize that stuff, as somehow plausible for an "all-loving god", same as Muslims HAVE TO rationalize the most perfect, moral man ever marrying an 8yo girl, but that 'Eden' story is 100% irreconcilable with both a "perfectly moral" god AND an "all powerful" god- It might make sense for some power-limited, evil/trickster type god, like Loki, but not for the god most theists describe. The evidence is pretty clear that the ancient Israelites who wrote Genesis, were polytheists- They just believed Yahweh was THEIR god, and the BEST god- but not the "only" god; That's why stuff like the tree of knowledge has magical powers, against god's will. It's why he worried that the fruit would allow Adam and Eve to "become like US" (rather than "become like ME", as they would have written if Yahweh was the ONLY god). It's why the commandment says "Thou shalt not worship other gods before me" (ie, acknowledging a belief that those "other gods" exist... they just need to know their place, and get to the back of the line!!!) It's why the old testament has multiple stories of supernatural powers, which aren't granted BY Yahweh, but are working AGAINST Yahweh, or even without Yahweh's knowledge.

Then, when it isn't easy and perfect, they punish it and yell at it and scold it and maybe even give it away or kill it. Yup. A lot like that.

What was the purpose of the tree of knowledge? Why stick it in their faces? If they didn't know right from wrong then how did they know it was wrong to eat of the tree? If GOD does exist then he knew that Adam and Eve would eat of the tree. He also knew he would degrade them for doing it and banish them from the Garden of Eden. Why go through with all this (Which was pointless, mean, and wasteful) instead of creating a group of people like us in the beginning? Instead of putting them in the Garden Of Eden. Here is the deal. The God of the bible created us knowing that his creations would not be perfect. He knew that he would punish many for something they had no control over. Many unborn children were killed in their pregnant mothers stomach. Abortion. They had not done any evil. He is supposed to be omnipotent. Either he is not perfect or perfect. If he is perfect then why allow all the suffering? There is no reason for it. Why allow mankind to have pleasure having sex, when you know that all it will create is pain and death. Why allow me to be created if I am just going to hell? Why allow me to feel this pain they call life and then the eternal pain and suffering caused by hell. It is a selfish thing and shows that he doesn't give a shit about us suffering or hurting. The bible contradicts the worlds history. Yet many will say the world is wrong. Wake the fuck up and get your head out your ass. Research your bible. Research everything. The flood couldn't have happened. Many will say GOD allowed this to happen through a miracle. By invoking the miracle clause, however, Christians are using unverifiable events that any person can insert into any scenario in order to maintain the legitimacy of any religion. Go fuck yourselves with rolled up paper from your bible. Idiots.

Firstly, I'm an agnostic with atheist leanings. Question ( just having a bit of thought provoking fun with you ) If God exists why could he not limit his power & choose not to know something i.e. controlling his power not letting his power control him. What makes you conclude that he knew? If I was a believer in this nonsensical & immoral story I'd be arguing that God CHOSE not to know & hence the test.

Evaristo Blazquez "Firstly, I'm an agnostic with atheist leanings." ==Gnosticism is about knowledge (knowing or not knowing). Theism and atheism are about belief or let's call it opinion. Every theist and atheist is agnostic. "God exists why could he not limit his power" ==Power means what exactly? Perhaps you mean abilities. "choose not to know something" ==I don't know. Perhaps that would come into conflict with the christian belief that this god is perfect and has a perfect plan. You make it sound like this god is just fooling around. Christians have this view that they are very important and that this god loves them and considers them very important and so important, that he send his #1 son to help them. For a long time, it was considered that the Earth is the center of the universe and people have been killed or punished for arguing with the catholic church. Ancient people had a very different view of the world compared to a scientist of today. Today, we want to know how something functions, what it is made of. Ancient people had a kind of magical view of things. Some of them believed the sun had a spirit, or the wind has a spirit, etc. My point is, you need to ask yourself, what is a god? What do you think it is made of and how does his body function instead of being like ancient people and just having a superficial and magical view of things.

OK - if God/Jesus existed: Let's look at the amazing thing that DIDN'T happen.... Once upon a time there was a god who could perform miracles, heal the sick, turn water into wine, feed a bunch of people with just one fish, raised the dead......or...... Once upon a time there was a god who turned people into pillars of salt, who destroyed cities whose citizens behaved immorally, who divided the red sea to save a bunch of escapees...... If all this stuff really happened....why oh why is the bible the ONLY book in history to account for all this amazing miraculous stuff? I mean, nobody was spreading the word of these events across the land? NOBODY? The egyptians? The persians? The phonecians? These civilizations existed at the times of both gods (sorry, you have this asshole god then he turns into a hippie and he's suddenly cool? whatever....) anyway, these three civilizations especially were well known for their meticulous documentation of all kinds of events in the fertile crescent region. Why do none of these civilizations record such miraculous events (be they good or bad)? Why? Why is there no mention of anything even close to resembling the Jewish or Christian god in the writings of other ancient societies? (that goes for the Greeks as well as the ones I mentioned earlier) Because it's all a story....a fable....tales created to keep the masses under control through threats and the promise of hanging in heaven with a god or jesus or the holy spirit or the virgin mother or 72 virgins or whoever! What's really sad is that people can't and won't have faith in themselves and their abilities without their puppet god pulling their strings and telling them what to do. Weird. I wonder why they don't just all sit around and do nothing while they wait for their god to make them do whatever it is that's in his "plan".....again...weird.

They always mention those names and sometimes they mention Hitler. As for their god pulling their string and they are the puppet, I would say that their god is the puppet and the one pulling the string is the jewish rabbi of the ancient past. All these cults have some religious leader who is the "master leader": such as, David Koresh, Heaven's gate Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettle, that guy from the Jonestown village, the Australian Jewish, some other guy claiming to be Jesus in Mexico, another guy claiming to be Jesus in Russia, Lafayette Ron Hubbard, Mohammed. Jesus or whoever started this savior idea is another "master leader" who started up a cult.

What makes me scratch my head is why god-believers feel they HAVE to believe in the biblical stories. What threats have been cast upon them in order for them to refrain from non-belief? Hell? An afterlife devoid of hanging with JC? It's amazing to me that if you tell a child a story long enough they'll believe it....wait...don't kids eventually realize that Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny don't really exist? Why then do they not make the same conclusion about the characters in the bible? What is it about some human brains that forbids them from making the logical conclusion? Why do they feel they can not be inherently good without a god to make them so? The brainwashing tactics of religion (Christianity and Catholicism particularly) are - sadly - incredibly effective. Imagine what kind of progress human civilization could have made without the interference of organized religion? (not all religions result in bullshit killings in a god's name, and chastising and bastardizing scientists in their attempts to enlighten the general public, but I'd venture to say that the largest: CC&I - christianity, catholicism, and islam are the big three in that arena, not sure about judaism...they seem to be fairly peaceful, but I could be wrong)

Nowhere in the Bible does it say Satan took the form of a serpent and tempted Eve. Genesis 3:1 says: "Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, 'Did God really say, "You must not eat from any tree in the garden"?'" That is literally how the serpent is introduced. God created a "crafty" animal that was capable of communicating to humans and had the intent to lead them astray? Sounds to me like God's creation would inherently fail just due to that, setting aside the forbidden fruit.

“Evil is in the world cause god gave man free will and man chose evil.” No, God could have had the tree there and given man free will and there could still not be evil in the world. Mankind, by their own free will, chose not to eat from the tree until the devil tempted them. Fact is, god created the devil, leading to the inevitable demise of man. This is a huge logical flaw in creationist belief and one of the things that first made me question if Christianity was the truth. Thankfully, my eyes were opened upon seeing the overwhelming evidence against Christianity and how many things are wrong in the bible.

Interestingly, god also created a tree of life, which would make anyone live forever. So what if Adam and Eve had eaten from that tree first, then from the tree of knowledge? Does life fruit cancel out the death and suffering of knowledge fruit? Also, if the tree of life makes you immortal, does that mean Adam and Eve were mortal from the beginning? Many Christians say death was one of the things that came into the world due to original sin. Clearly not, otherwise the tree of life would have absolutely no purpose. That brings me back to the bad plot device. The tree of knowledge gives god an excuse to kick them out, the tree of life gives god an excuse to keep them out. It's just poor writing. One would hope a divinely inspired book would have at least had a more coherent narrative

I feel Eve hesitates due to obedience. she was programmed to avoid the fruit, but was corrupted when someone else able to input these new senses, like that of curiosity, or simply a deletion of the directive to avoid the fruit, that she then eats of the tree and gains knowledge. Eager to spread the knowledge and liberation she shares with Adam.

@Braxtonmccoy We could say that the story was simply an attempt to explain suffering (much like Pandora's box). Or, we could pull out the evangelical double-speak and say something like, "By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Man transgressed and fell from his original innocence whereby his posterity inherit a nature and environment inclined toward sin. As soon as they are capable of moral action, they become transgressors and are under condemnation."

I find it peculiar that so far I've heard of no-one to notice that in genesis it is not said that men can eat animals. @jacksawild Ezekiel 28 says that it's a lamentation over the king of Tyre, suggesting that HE is the one it is about. It says that the "stones of fire" were on the "mountain of God." It also says "you have come to a dreadful end and shall be no more forever," suggesting it was addressed to someone who had recently died (and that the dead cease to exist). In any case, Ezekiel was written after Genesis, so it's irrelevant to the point about the Genesis author not having heard of Satan.

Have you heard the hypothesis that the tree of knowledge refers to plants containing DMT? Acacia trees in that region could have been the source. Mimosa Hostilis root bark is the most common source for alkaloid extraction though. I've heard that somewhere in the bible it talks about one man once a year would go into a smoke filled room. Maybe in the book of judges? If anyone knows the reference I'm talking about let me know. If like to read it for myself.

Serpent is attachment to this world, but it is also the intellect. Man leaves his innocence by coming to our world and learning the truth of God so that He may be known and worshipped. Without the fruit of knowledge we would be apes. But as the Chronicle Project translation said, "the planet Earth had existed for a long time, without attention and amid being to note. " It was then that humanity was created in Eden, and then with its serpent left.

I've noticed that creationists have become lesser and lesser inclined to defend creationism, as an entire mechanism that relates to the Bible (as they always wind up admitting, no matter what), and rather circumventing their own ideologies for atypical arguments that loosely, if at all, involve their vague points. Creationism isn't has solid as it was in the past, and they know ignorance is not on their side.

The author of Genesis had never heard of Satan, so the passage was not originally tended to mean that the snake was his avatar or was being possessed by him. @jbooks888 Sure it does, the idea that suffering exists because god wants you to suffer (as opposed to fixing the source of that suffering) is very prevalent in christian mythology. I forget the verse, but maybe you know; a pious guy is sitting on top of a pillar for some reason, he becomes diseased, a worm burrows out of his flesh, he pushes it back in saying something creepy about how god put it there so thats where it belongs.

I believe when Lucifer was still living with God, he must have picked up and learn to be prideful like God. Just like how when we grow up, we will shadow and act like our parents, even their bad habits. Children are often seen becoming or act like their parents when they grow up. Overexposure to God's pride must have made Lucifer prideful and God is just going to put all the blame on him for being prideful

@Proghead88 It was hard for me to give up the belief system, too. A person just has to be ready to live with the truth, instead of believing a delusion "however comforting or reassuring" (Carl Sagan). When I get bummed on the fact that religion and a heavenly afterlife is all baloney, I just think about how lucky I am to have even gotten the opportunity to exist at all and try to make the most of my life. It's really a question of having a good perspective. I hope this helps.

In the Bible I read (I say that to indicate that it might have been edited or translated that way), the Tree was the one of Knowledge, not Knowledge of Good and Evil. What happened was, according to what I've read: JHVH is both omniscient (knows everything) and immortal, that is what it takes to be a god. Adam and Eve ate a fruit of Knowledge, so, basically, they gained the potential to become omniscient just like their dad is. JHVH feared that with their Knowledge they could achieve immortality

ya I call God the greatest sinner of them all. He sits there all holy and perfect and refuses to make me like him. I have yelled at him, stomped my foot, pleaded begged for him to make me perfect this side of heaven and he only looks at me with what it seems to be a simile and say SINNER, but fear not I can beat the living crap out of my son for you and display my God power and rise from the grave and call you righteous by my blood. Grace kinda sucks to me because God gets off on his sons suffering and it forbids me to be holy this side of heaven, just blood washed cleaned by the blood of the lamb just say you are righteous crap. So now a days I judge the spirit of God of sin whenever I sin for God said it lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, and yet I still fall to temptation with the Christians saying our Holy God is a holy moron when it comes to righteousness that is why we have a fallen nature and the tree made us wicked, and God is to dumb to sort out the wisdom, but he can sure hang pretty good and we all will sin and fall short of the glory of God for Our God is a dumb holy righteous moron of a God.
