IELTS Listening - Computer Delivered Test | Tips | Genesis Learning
The IELTS listening test will take about 30 - 45 minutes. The listening test is the same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training modules. There are four parts with ten questions each. The questions are designed so that the answers appear in the order they are heard in the audio.
The first two parts deal with situations set in everyday social contexts. In Part 1, there is a conversation between two speakers (for example, a conversation about travel arrangements), and in Part 2, there is a monologue in (for example, a speech about local facilities). The final two parts deal with situations set in educational and training contexts. In Part 3, there is a conversation between two main speakers (for example, two university students in discussion, perhaps guided by a tutor), and in Part 4, there is a monologue on an academic subject.
The Computer Delivered Test or CDT, is gaining popularity. There are a few differences between the listening on paper and computer. In today's video, Noel will be focusing on the IELTS Listening on the computer. He will talk about all the details and the things to keep in mind.

Hey Noel. I have a question, if the question starts with a dash, for instance; ---- was cool outside. (Answer is wind). So, do we have to write capital letter Wind because it’s in the beginning of the sentence and whether it is noun or not?

Hey! I just wanted to know whether it’s possible to move to the next section in IELTS LISTENING CBT before the audio finishes or whether we have to wait for it to end?Usually in practice tests I just answer all the questions and move to the next section. Is it possible to move back to a section after you have completed it or can you only view the questions you have marked for review? Kindly answer these questions

Thank you for explaining in detail. I have a question on listening Computer based test - While moving sections from 1 to 2, do we have to manually move the pages? and automatically the second section's audio will start after 1 min gap or once we move the page to section 2, the audio will start? Also, I am trying to find any website where I can practice exactly like IELTS Computer-based test but I am unable to find it. IDP or British Council or any other websites don't have full practice tests like the actual exam. can you please suggest any?

Hello and thank you for getting in touch with us. The audio will play automatically and it cannot be stopped or rewinded. They will give an indication like "section 2". You will have to manually click to move to the next section. All the instructions will be on your screen. Hope it's clear.

This video really comes in handy, thanks for that. I’ve just got an overall score of 7 for a paper delivered IELTS test but unfortunately the speaking score is lower than expected hence I will have to resit next month but I have never done the test on computer. In your opinion, for the listening test computer, is it possible for us to use the highlight tool? I find it a bit struggling when trying to remember the questions 😢

I'm registering for the exam. What should I fill up in the section " how many years you've been studying English?" as I'm not a native speaker but I had the English subject in high school and the language for graduation was English.. Also does it affect on difficulty level of exam if I put the maximum number of years?

Hi Noel. Can you please suggest what would be the best way to answer CDT listening questions? Write answers directly on the computer or write them on paper first? Problem with directly writing on the computer is, you have to write the correct answers (with correct spellings) and listen to the audio simultaneously. I don't see much material available on the internet for CDT listening. How did you practice yourself? :) Appreciate your response.

To add to Meghana’s question, let say after completing Part 2, I will have 30 seconds to check my Part 2 answers and I finish checking those within the next 5 seconds, so I still have 25 seconds left. Can I now proceed to read Part 3 questions? If yes, then will the Part 3 audio start directly? Or will I still have those 25 secs (that I had saved in Part 2) to read Part 3 questions?

@@GenesisLearning I see. The challenging question for me or almost everyone would be Multiple choice questions in part 3 containing long sentences. On paper, I used to mark or write notes but on computer it is a little bothering to type notes as well as there is not much time to do so.

@@GenesisLearning Hi again. I took CD IELTS yesterday and was a good experience, although I think that I might have made mistakes in writing task 2. The writing topic was parents nowadays believe that they should limit their children in using TV and playing computer games and instead want them to read books. Do you agree or disagree? What I did was that after typing the introduction, in next para I started with "on the plus side ... " which I mentioned some advantages of TV programs and PC gaming and then in the next para I started with "On the minus side ..." which I gave some reasons why these kind of activities are harmful and should be limited. Finally in my conclusion para I said that although there are advantages but children should be supervised while using these devices. What do you think about my task achievement or coherence score? How much I might lose? Thanks in advance.

Hello and thank you for leaving a comment. It's better to use normal font in in the CDT. Check out this part of the video , 5:40 - Can capitals be used?
