How Do I Get a Band 9 in IELTS Listening?

Күн бұрынMany students struggle with parts 3 and 4 of the IELTS Listening test. Why? Because it requires a different method of learning.

The IELTS Listening test will take about 30 minutes, and you will have an extra 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet.
The four parts of this practice Listening test are presented over four separate web pages. Make sure you move swiftly from one page to the next to make your practice as realistic as possible.
Download the question paper and blank answer sheet before you start, and write your answers on the question paper while you are listening. Use a pencil.
Listen to the instructions for each section of the test carefully. Answer all of the questions. There are 40 questions altogether. Each question carries one mark.
For each part of the test, there will be time for you to look through the questions and time for you to check your answers. After completing all four parts of the Listening test, you will have ten minutes to copy your answers on to a separate answer sheet.

bbc learning english, 6 minute short talk, ted lectures, nature channel, international any news channel. this is best for practice normal listening skill. it helped me to reach 8.5 in real practice test . it worked for me a lot.

I felt the part 2 and part 3 are my most difficult parts. When I listen, I feel they really need the upper-mentioned strategies like getting familiar with the fluency naturality, concentrating for more time, and understanding real meanings, as well as knowing your love-to-do. Thank you!

exactly the same, I usually have mistakes in part 2 and 3, especially the multiple choice questions. Some speakers, even the cambridge, do not have clear voice would be one of the reasons I missed the correct answers :((

I have been using this method to practice and to help my friends improve their listening skills for years before watching this video. And it really works! I had a 9.0 in Listening right the first time I did the test. Now I understand why it works and I surely will practice a lot more. Thanks for another helpful video!

I have watched and subscribed hundreds of videos of IELTS "Gurus" on KZfaq; then I have found Chris! Now I only watch this channel. Chris is really great. His formulae and techniques do actually work for me unlike other gurus' self proclaimed and subjective techniques. "Focus on your Weaknesses" and "Turn you Weaknesses into strengths", these are the two best advice for any test takers. Thanks a lot, Chris, to help me get 9.

Hey Chris! I got my results today, I got an overall 8. My listening is 8.5! even though I had only one week to study for the exam, your videos helped me a lot. My lowest score is from writing which is 7 and I think without your videos it would be way lower. So thanks for everything. It is really great that you are sharing all these knowledge with us! To any viewer: This is the best English learning channel you could find. I watched this channel's videos when procrastinating to do the actual work (you should not procrastinate, but if you must then watching these are a nice way to do so. remember to set up a time limit though, that might help stop procrastinating), and still get 8.0 overall (9.0 listening) Thank you a lot :D

I categorize listening questions into 2 types. Multiple choices (1) vs not multiple choices (2). The (2) is just pure experiences and practices. We can ace the (1) at ease by noticing differences between options, which is the strategy i learn from your reading technique. This channel is pure honest and simple. Keep it up sir, appreciate it ❤

This has really caught me red handed haha.....I've been doing listening practice tests from morning and persistently remaining in band 6 what the heck... until i got a notification of new video from ielts advantage hehee.....THANKS Chris for this.....My ass is off to practice listening skills, improve my focus which is giving 90% failure rate and then improve my vocabulary. This is really helpful. A band 8 is a MUST!! for me now.

Yeah, your point is true without doubt. Because I have preparing for Listening 🎧 for 2 months but only via practice Test but it is not efficient. I couldn't improve my listing skill from 6.5 and 7 and sometimes 7.5 but I never achieved 8 or 9. So this technic looks more efficent😀 thank you very much. And good luck to your next videos🤗✊

I have been studying for ielts for the past week and i have one more week before i take the ielts. my english has always been good and i know i am somewhere between B2-C1. However i couldnt get higher than 7 in listening. I was doing one listening test a day for the past week. I even got 5.5 once... so imagine my dissapointment. i will start doing micro-listening and i hope to get higher than 7.5 in listening. I will let you know about my results! Thanks already Chris!

Hello Chris. I’m preparing IELTS Academic and I have around 6 months left. Fyi, I’m targeting a band 9.0 for Listening and I’ve been doing practice tests on them but as you’ve mentioned in the video, my progress also happen to keep deteriorating instead-from 8.5 on my 1st day of practice to 6.5 yesterday (all within a week)😵💫 So how long do you think I should micro-listen (I’m opting for Ted Talks on KZfaq) before I begin answering these Listening practice tests again but properly? 🥺🥺

Thank you so much for your wonderful tips! Well I would like to ask sth. I've been struggling a lot with my focus, especially part 2 and 3. Cuz these parts are packed with so many words and they're really distracting me. Even though I underline the keywords and I could even hear every single word clearly, I still cannot keep track of what the audio is talking about. I have used many other methods to help me improve my concentration, for example, my teacher told me to take notes while listening and try not to look at the questions because it will help us only focus on our hearing. However, I find this technique not really helpful because I tend to miss a lot of information while I take notes TT So my question is: do you have any tips to not get distracted and keep track of the audio effectively? Btw thanks a bunch for your video, definitely what I need 👍👍

Hi there, it's fine for the listening and reading test. However, if you have issues with capitalization, you will still need to address these for the writing test so please don't avoid improving this area if necessary. Hope this helps.
