I love the little 'failure ' speech at the end. She's always torn between making things absolutely perfect like she is very capable of doing & trying to be a little more imperfect so that us beginners won't be intimidated or feel like failures if ours aren't perfectly divided, perfectly smooth, or perfectly decorated. ❤❤❤ Bless her soul ❤😊

I think she once said, "A party without a cake is just a meeting." I may make this for my next birthday. Looks luscious without being enormous....a modest but perfectly done little cake with a fabulous texture and flavor.

I just love her casual comments like "I guess I should have done that." "don't get discouraged, just keep at it.' I think that is why she will always be my favorite chef!

This is the first episode of Season 6 which ran during the Summer of 1966. After this season, the show would go on hiatus for several years returning with Season 7 in October 1970. When it returned it would have a new set, new theme music and in color. Also, it would be a PBS show which was the successor to the old NET Network. I can't be sure but I believe one reason for the hiatus was she was being treated for breast cancer for which she was diagnosed in 1968.

I even read that she also was waiting for WGBH to go into color. Apparently NET was slower to go into color that commercial TV and maybe she was tired of the B&W. To bad these early FC shows weren't repeated when she ceased production on the series in 73. I mostly remember the early 70's episodes in reruns.

Every time is hear that opening music, I think of my old professor. Such a happy bassoon. This recipe is such a hit, and for baking, yes, read and prep for success. Mise en place. Clean, washed, healthy finger, ha! Why is she using a spatula?! I never noticed that before. And the pan with butter, needs 2 spouts for left handed pouring. I love watching her cook.

By season 6 the technology had really improved. Even had double ovens and the mixer looks like a Kitchen Aid.

You may get a kick out of the ANTI-CHEF. He's learning as he goes along by following recipes as written by Julia Child and other chefs.

That looks absolutely delicious even in black and white 😃 I'm actually going to make that cake tomorrow, so wish me luck. I'm no begginer when it comes to baking, but any recipe with sugar syrup or any type of caramel makes me a bit scared, but I dare to say that this one looks rather easy... Well...I'll keep you updated 😆

The video is great to watch of our dear Julia but the measurements of the genoise are not right tried the recipe twice perhaps its the size of the pan something is wrong the table spoon of butter measure before or after it melted 1 and a half cup of stiff flour and...then she said 4 ounces not right 325 oven not right the time either....ypu kust separe the white ...she doesnt ...
