Crazy how it was not stopped at the end of round 9, Gutknect cant even see out of his eye. Corner team keep saying Eye is good but its anything but good. At this point he cannot win on points anyway, just pull the fighter out its madness.

Gutknecht threw less than a dozen punches (outside of clinch punches) in round 11 and was constantly backing up ; terrible negligence and cruelty from his corner/the ref to keep him in there.

Richie's already talking about the corner pulling him out before the end of the 10th ; how can they not see that? They are complicit in his long term disabilities

Was a bad fight watched it live. Groves said in interview that the fight should never have gone the distance and should have been pulled earlier. He is rough and ready, has fast hands and hits hard but he was never the most intelligent and classy fighter. I think its part of the reason why he lost the fights he did in his career. A more intelligent/classy boxer in the last few rounds knowing he is way ahead on points would probably have switched the attack and taken the guy out to the body. But Groves being Groves sees the weak eye so just keeps hitting that instead as it seems the more easy option to try get a stoppage. Its easy to say its just sport, its just boxing but every sportsperson/boxer deserves and expects a duty of care and I do not feel Gutknect got that. The referee is shocking never even looked at the eye at any point, complete disregard for the health/safety of the fighter, incredibly that referee is still heavily involved in boxing to this day. At start of round 12 Gutknect he went right up to the referee to give him a good look at the eye but referee just did nothing. Why wasnt a ringside medic called to have a look at the eye during the last few rounds? Its clear the fight should have been stopped at the end of round 9 as Gutknect clearly cannot see out of the eye, its not a cut, its a massive swelling indicating a serious injury. Why didnt his corner team pull him out? By end of round 9, he has no chance of winning on points and can only see out of one eye so why didnt his corner team, referee pull him out and let him live to fight another day. Its easy to say its just sport, its just boxing but I do not think Gutknect got the duty of care he should have had and was let down badly by the referee and corner team, incredibly there was no ringside medic even though in his previous fight it was stopped by a ringside medic. Groves could have given something financially to Gutneckt and his family, 20-30 grand is nothing to him. I think that would have been a nice gesture but he give nothing apart from set up a crowdfunding campaign and ask others to give. If I was in his position I would have definitely have gave a significant amount of money to the family. It would have been a nice and the right/moral thing to do to help support Gutknect and his family. At the end of round 9 the fight should have stopped, its clear its not a cut, its a swelling, similar to the blackwell eubank fight, the boxer is not going to pull himself out and relies on the ref, and corner team unfortunately in his case both failed him. The absence of a ringside medic was crucial. Round 12 should have never have gone ahead on anyones watch or on anyones board of control. I think the really serious damage is done in that round which is very sad indeed.
