Lyrics
I'd say love was a magical thing
I'd say love would keep us from pain
Had I been there
Had I been there
I I would promise you all of my life
Hut to lose you would cut like a knife
So I don't dare
No I don't dare
'Cause I've never come close
In all of these years
You are the only one to stop my rears
And I'm so scared
I'm so scared
Take me back in time
Maybe I can forget
Turn a different corner
And we never would have met
Would you care?
I don't understand it
For you it's a breeze
Little by little
You've brought me to my knees
Don't you care?
No I've never come close
In all of these years
You are the only one to stop my tears
I'm so scared of this love
And if all that there is
Is this fear of being used
I should go back to being lonely and confused
If I could, I would, I swear.

I am a 100% straight dude. And every time, I hear this, well, I cry. I am a country hick, a fireman almost all my life. But this song breaks my heart. Love lost. Love gained. Everything is just so confusing when we search our true feeling. And we realize that we made mistakes that were not part of any of this. Thank God for the people that forgave our mistakes and loved us anyway!

As a 29 year old, I have no words to express how grateful I'am to have discovered this masterpiece. To the people who grew up in the 80s, you guys were lucky. I wish we had music like this now in days. Yes, I know some people will argue, and say we have good music now in days, which may be true a little, but not music that touches your soul. That's a fact no matter how much some will try to deny it.

Indeed, i'm lucky to have grew up with George Michael's songs. In 1984, with Careless whisper, i was 16 years old. In 1987 with his album Faith, i was 19 years old and when this song was out, i was 18 years old!

@@user-ur6jx7xo6p If it was today, it wouldn't be the same 😢. We have forgotten to write music that touches our hearts. Good news is that, at least, I can go back to these songs 💖.

Totally agree and glad you realise it, I grew up in the 80's and people wrote love songs, soul, disco etc or songs that commented on matters of concern. I would say the rap industry in particular is responsible for 'lowering the tone' with its references to money, ho's and sex, not saying its all gone bad but it doesn't exactly help matters, music should elevate the spirit , bring joy to the soul even if it is a melancholic beauty as in ' A different corner' . RIP George Michael.

Back in the 80's i was quite the emotional teenager. I cried a lot looking back, heartbroke too many times. As ive got older the tears are less, it takes a lot to make me cry. But even now, listening to george, he somehow manages to make me feel. Life can harden us, but always and forever inside is the child that needs love. We should never forget that. If you read this and lifes been difficult i send to you love and hope. God bless us all ❤

I remember the first time I heard this song. I was 19 years old and it was March 1986. I was tidying up my room. After a few seconds of this song starting, I had to sit down..... stopping everything I was doing..... and just listen. Time stood still, as I was led to another reality. My mind and thoughts only focusing on the melody. I could hardly make out the words. Some 80's songs were like that.......

While I think artists' personal relationship lives are none of my business, as it became common knowledge later that he was gay, I'll add that the way he channeled additional sadness he may have been feeling from societal homophobia into another influence for his artistry was also brilliant. Christmas will mark 5 years since the world lost him. I just rewrote his "Last Christmas" as an anti-COVID-19 song for my profit-free flickr site with full credits to him as musician, writer and producer and link to the video, combined with one of my own Christmas photos. I swear it's like he came straight from Heaven in this video. All dressed in white like that, he looks like an angel, but he's missing one thing: the wings. He has since gained those, but the world has lost a man whose talent, beauty, and heart can never be matched or replaced. I'll freely admit that I have a certain level of guilt for not knowing what an incredible artist, and man, George was in life (I've only really "discovered" his music in these past few weeks); a guilt that makes me wonder if I have the right to call myself a fan of his now that he's gone. Somewhere in Heaven, I'd like to imagine that there's a place where our dearly departed stars can see the tributes that we post on social media and those that we erect at their homes or other places of significance in their lives, so that they may know how much they were loved, something that I feel George never truly knew until the (6) years immediately preceding his death. George, I hope you're resting easy. Your memory and music will surely remain in the hearts of your fans, both lifelong and newborn (like me), for the rest of time. ☺💜💔

I was a couple years older than you when this song came out - about 16 I think - and the feelings in evokes are the same now, at 53, as 16. These feelings are so familiar to everyone- regardless of age. Best of luck to you in your life. Love hard, be fearless, and always be authentic.

George Michael is one of the greatest voices of my generation. This song made me cry, especially when he dedicated it to his dying mother on Unplugged. Look gang, I am straight and I love George no matter what the guy's sexuality is. A voice is a voice.

In my 50s now but I look back to the 80s when I was a teenager and realize now how stubborn I was and took a lot of music back then for granted. The good thing now is I can go back and rediscover our music. Songs I dismissed back then have a different tone now that I listen with a more mature ear. As a straight guy there were artists that were just not cool to listen to. Now I simply toss that judgement aside and appreciate the true artistic talent these people had, especially GM, RIP.
