He is getting rich for both and it is like redemption for when he was a television writer back in the 80's and the network(CBS) who he and fellow writers fought against(and lost) in the tv show Beauty and the Beast. He was disgusted with Hollywood and decided to write a book, it wasn't Game of Thrones, that was something he stumbled upon.

You know what I don't understand? How as an actor you can accept a role on a major television program knowing full well that it's based of novels and not rush right out and consume every last one? Maybe it's something to do with the acting process, but personally I would read and watch and learn everything I could about all the characters.

You're right; it's an acting process. Reading ahead may risk the chance of acting ahead. When your character has a major secret/huge character development/ forthcoming death, it's best for you to know as little as possible so that the scene will be more believable. Now, I'm not saying that it's impossible to read ahead and still do your job perfectly; it's just a little harder to play one thing when you've seen what happens in the future.

Fuzzzie acting consumes a lot of time. First of all their is the on set activities. Then, there is interviews and signings. Also, a lot of these actors do more roles than just GoT. So, I can only imagine that it would be very difficult to find the time to read thousands upon thousands of pages.

The book is an absolute marvel. Forget those who say it's shite, it's not - read it yourself, don't listen to what others say, since they may share a different taste in writing. The show is also gold. Very gripping and awesome, after each episode you'll be begging for more. :)

I could see being an actor and being afraid to die in any other show, but not this one. You know your death will be bloody, horrific, and/or memorable. I have heard a few actors say that they want to be on Game of Thrones, and when pushed, they admit they really just want a glorious death scene. Think about it- you get a meaty scene with plenty of acting/emoting, fans will remember you, and you get to be part of the biggest franchise since Star Wars. Sure, it would be great to make it almost all the way through the show and get plenty of air time, but if I was acting on the show, I'd almost feel cheated if I didn't get a gruesome death. That is part of what people love about this show- characters die (unlike other shows, as he points out), and the deaths are always gruesome/haunting.

***** Every major character death (or survival of a deadly situation) has been played out almost exactly as in the book. And the show is fairly close to the books. The worst part is when an actor plays a role in the show and does it incorrectly because she hasn't read the books to fully understand how her character acts (cough Lena Headey cough).

Most actors choose not to because they want to be totally in the minds of their character. They shouldn't know what is going to happen next because their character would only be living in that moment and not know the future.

Katelyn Pringle No, he really didn't. Compared to the TV series, the books are G-rated. The sex in the books is not gratuitous, awkward, or overdone. It's mostly tasteful and necessary to the plot.

Katelyn Pringle the books never go into detail on the sex. Just heavily implies things. The show does shows the details. He enjoys the violence more. The show surprising is less gory than the book. Like Lady Stark was ripping her own flesh after watching her son die. Joffrey was ripping his throat off when choked.

It's so sad how season 8 and the long night exactly embodied what he specifically said he wanted the books to avoid. Every time a character was surrounded by 20+ wights I felt absolutely no fear for their survival. So disappointing

So I watched the first episode of Game of Thrones earlier this year, and it didn't do anything for me. It wasn't terrible but it didn't have me "hooked". I just now started reading the first book and HOLY SHIT is it good. I'm at the part where Jory dies and I already know Ned will die. I completely understand now when I saw all those George Martin Memes. I really liked Ned. I have a love/fear relationship with this series. But at the same time the plot is realistic for it's time and events. If nobody died it would be kind of silly.All I ask is PLEASE let Arya stay alive..... which is probably why she will be killed.

I'm sure more than 1 actor has asked him not to kill them. Game of Thrones has to be one of the best jobs in television. You get to travel to beautiful locations, it's super high-budget and it's one of the biggest shows on TV.

The Red Wedding was probably the most gut wrenching episode of any show I have ever watched. It was cruel but understandable. What sucked was that the 10th episode of the 3rd season I was numb to completely everything after having my mind melted.

I really love George's feelings toward his writing. A world of uncertainty, where no one is safe, gives rise to truly edge-of-the-seat viewing and reading.

George just seems like a very lovely man. Despite how cold he can be in regards to what he does to his characters, he seems like someone who genuinely full of affection for his fellow man. He's number one on my list of celebrities that I would like to have a drink with.

It just never ceases to amaze me how a man this loveable, witty and funny can write books that basically are second to none when it comes to war, rape, mutilation and murder. There's a dark mind behind this boastful laughter xD

partytor11 Take in mind that her actual age in the books is like 13 years and was born last into the royal line (Rhaegar's children would sit on the throne before her) so the responsibility was pretty much forced onto her. If it wasn't for war she'd only be a typical princess with barely any care in the world but now she has to learn which she indeed has

I have always like Jamie as well, and the good thing is, is that he starts to redeem himself later in the story. Mostly little things, but having him be such a favorite, it sucked having to hate him at times.

This is seriously a good writer. I really hate when stories tend to follow the lines of cliches, boring me to tears with how obvious the story is going to go. I love movies, books, videogames and story-driven comics where I can't tell what's going to happen next or how the overall story itself will end. It makes it interesting and makes you want to keep reading.

If I were an actor In this series I would look up the status of my character in the books to see if I was dead or alive. Why Isn't more actors doing this? WTF

It could potentially ruin your acting performance. If you knew your character was going to be betrayed seasons later by someone the character knows then you might start acting negatively towards that character even though at the moment there is nothing wrong with the two character's relations.

People who were disappointed with the end of the show should absolutely read the books. Even though the books’ story currently ends around where season five ends the books maintain the slow-burning, epic storytelling that made the first four seasons of the show so amazing.

4 seasons later, the heroes were literally surrounded by a hundred thousand wights and I was 100% sure that they would survive. This show has gone downhill :(
