After reading blackwater in a clash of kings, and hearing him describe the challenges, he executed it perfectly. Having Tyrion both be set up as Hand, therefore general for the defenese of kings landing, and having Cersei's schemes push him to the front lines allow for us to see his plans be executed without having them spoiled previously, and immerse us in a "visceral" battle scene described in immense detail.
@silasmartin5210

I was thinking the exact same thing when I was listening to him talk! However I’d say that GRRM delivers a master stroke in the battle of the black water by also giving us Davos’ viewpoint so we actually understand firstly Stannis’ plan and secondly Tyrions plan (aka the chain).
@adamiadamiadami
@adamiadamiadami 3 сағат бұрын
I wouldn't say perfectly since Tyrion's POV reeks of plot armour and it's quite ridiculous to read about him killing/injuring half a dozen armored knights and only getting hit in the end by an ambiguous assassin (who failed nonetheless.) But it's really good, Davos' POV especially.

There are orders heard in the background, doesn't have to be super clear to the audience but it should be there 3. The soldiers hold formation for the most part 4. There is some visual of the supply carts, especially during marches

There are plenty of people who enjoy GRRM's work so much that it has led them to go full circle and become unhappy with him. They are annoyed at his procrastination. Impatient at him for not working faster, concerned for his age, frustrated at the prospect of him dying or otherwise becoming so ill that he cannot finish the very writings that popularised him in the first place. For an author, this is what success looks like. This is how it goes when you tell a tale that is so good that people become afraid you are about to die without finishing it. And so GRRM finds himself in the odd situation of being successful without having finished. I wonder how that feels. I wonder how it feels to sit alone at a desk, 70 years old, and know that you haven't been wrung dry yet. To know that you still have a lot of work to do before people are happy with you. And then to feel that, once the final word has left your hands, you have officially finished your life's work. You, as an author, are considered done. Without missing a beat, your appreciators then become transfixed by the next author or curiosity, never really having understood the true depths of your work and the deep truths to be found therein. Perhaps the best bet then is to leave them guessing. Perhaps the perfect story is an unfinished one.

In reaction to this, Kloos withdrew the novel from consideration for the award. He was subsequently honored by George R. R.
