The guy who played George Washington also played Colonel John Glover in the 2000 HBO TV movie, "The Crossing" about the crossing of the Delaware and subsequent Battle of Trenton. Not the biggest budget film, but considering the lack of good Revolutionary War movies, I would highly recommend it. Especially with Christmas coming up!

President George Washington's example of selflessness, honor, loyalty and duty to this nation should be the standard that any/all politicians should either strive to be or are. Otherwise they do this great nation and the millions of brave citizens who paid the Ultimate price of giving there lives for freedom not merely a dishonor but disgrace all who work tirelessly that this great nation may endure. As Benjamin Franklin said to a woman who approached him and asked him "what type of government has been created" after the creation of the US Constitution was written he replied " a Republic madam, now if only we can keep it". Words to never forget.

Much of your report is wrong about General Washington. I grew up at Mount Vernon grounds. My ancestors came to "The New World" in the 1600s and early 1700s and owned the lands adjacent to Mount Vernon. I have studied, researched and loved the General all my life -- more than 60 years. Washington was a stalwart gentleman of impeccable integrity, wisdom, and kindness. First, he never had improprieties with women. He had smallpox in his teens and was impotent therefrom all his life. Sally Fairfax was a neighboring friend who taught him elegant social graces, but the two were never romantically engaged nor active. Since when is flirting a romantic declaration of permanent intent! It is critical to incorporate the language and practices of the times when interpreting historic documents and treasures. Also, George and Martha Washington loved each other. They were deeply devoted to the Godly mission of establishing a new nation consecrated in freedom. She traveled by carriage from Mount Vernon and stayed with him and his men through the harsh winter at Valley Forge, tending to ill soldiers and knitting socks for those with nothing on their feet who literally bled in the snow. No woman does that unless she is devoted to her husband and his mission. Slavery was the common practice in the 18th century and many of our finest founding fathers freed their slaves and in so doing, resolved to the financial ruin of their families and homes. Let's be honest: Colonists and Europeans did not invade Africa and capture Africans for slaves. African tribes IN Africa sold fellow slaves to European tradesmen who sold the Africans who had been defeated by fellow tribes. The entire practice of the African wars and the winners selling the losers was evil and entirely disgraceful. Not unlike the current practice in America of Illegals invading our nation and bringing sex slavery, murder weapons and drugs. Clean up our current culture before you attack those who fought for your freedom in earlier years. The USA was literally established by men and women of higher standards, moral principles and a focus on high principles like justice, freedom of speech and kindness which we must get back and reconsecrate in America if an honorable society is to survive! We must teach basics, math, science, how to actually read and write, philosophy, real, documented history and the lives of great men and women to our children and eliminate the dangerous anti-God teachings of willfulness, sex changes, communism and other lies if our children are to be happy and successful. Teach the truth, and not the nonsense you included for drama in your u-tube. We have historic documents, documented records, artifacts, family Bibles, other rock solid evidence that these were stalwart, humble, self-sacrificing, commanding leaders who gave all so today, the USA would offer freedom for every citizen to create and succeed limited only by their own vision, faith, and willingness to think and work hard. May the Lord help us to restore those original values for the sake of reestablishing a good and honorable nation of Liberty so all can succeed!

He never sought a great name for himself, offering his service but demanding nothing, including honors. The Europeans were stunned by his humility in resigning his commission and turning down a crown. They thought him the greatest man of his era. In eight years he set the country on a stable path that would be able to stand without him. You'll find that in books too.

George Washington: We fight to be free. That was his reason for Americas foundation. A Democratic way in which the “We the people” will chose our destiny not by King of England. America was truly a remarkable new world. Although the land was stolen from the natives. America struggled for Freedom and change over the years. Our founders left the old world for economic and religious freedom. Although many God believing American the founder chose not to isolate the other. So they chose not to include specific religions in the Constitution. Remember, Andrew Jackson married his wife who was married to someone before. Divorced one of the laws was adopted during that time. America is still a young nation and much to learn. Even England and France have been a country for thousands of years, yet still learning. The greatest gift of America was humbleness. We're not afraid to say we're new and willing to learn. Perhaps why I love the way the founders think, they established a Constitution to account all American action. They established 3 branches of government for a very good reason. So no one man can manipulated the government system. We've all witness the attack on US capital last January 6, 2021 and failed. I predicted the test for America this era just begun and it will get worst. The biggest enemy of our founder before discovery of new world was bigotry in Europe. The King owned all the land and only rich can have firearms. Plus religion was controlled by The Pope. So people have no place to go.

How George fight to be free but didn't do nothing to stop slavery
@NeTxGrl
@NeTxGrl Жыл бұрын
It was originally written into the Declaration of Independence the condemnation of slavery. It had to be removed because some of the signers were refusing to sign the document. Washington became conflicted about slavery over time. He stopped separating families, he stopped buying slaves, he allowed them to grow their own vegetables and sell them. When he left Philadelphia at the end of his Presidency, he gave his slaves freedom, the ones that lived up north with him. The founding fathers knew it was going to be a process to end slavery. If they had try to force an end to slavery at that time America would have fallen apart .Instead of America existing as we do now, we would have fallen apart into smaller separate countries, basically we would have looked like Europe. We were a new nation, to weak and fragile to attempt to force an end slavery in our early days. The founding fathers knew that slavery would eventually end but it would have to wait until the country was stronger and more stable to hold together. Thus we ended up with a civil war a few decades later and the nation survived it. Here is a quote from Washington, " I never mean to possess another slave by purchase : it being among my first wishes to see some plan adopted by the legislature by which slavery in the country, may be abolished by slow, sure, and imperceptible degrees". Washington also said if there was a civil war he would fight on the side of the north. He freed his slaves in his will, he wanted them to be educated and money was left for them. The money lasted until the 1840's.

If anti-slavery Founders such as Washington and Jefferson didn’t do anything to stop slavery, the institution would have expanded throughout the nation. Instead, they managed to curtail it to the South, preventing it from expanding westward - Northwest Ordinance (1787). They didn’t invent slavery nor did they introduce it in the US. They were born in that world and decided to change it, despite the legal and social restraints a feudal society imposed on them.
