My classic Lotus Esprit build is just a straight restoration, no weird ideas about lightness. Definitely no speed holes being drilled. www.georgekarellas.com

Without sounding creepy, I was just wondering how you were… had a s* day, rest of my family are watching that well known singing competition and as I loaded up the Tube, there you were… my heart skipped a beat and the world became a special place once more - you are a diamond, a gem, a jewel… and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Thank you, as always, for sharing.

the lotus is making progress! I recently got myself a powder coating gun and an old oven. It is the way to go for painting all the little brackets and pieces. no fumes, no over spray, and perfect glossy finish in 20 mins, save so much time. You should give it a go. Now i wish i had a sand sand blaster setup like yours.

@BuiltatBlackjacksАй бұрын
You don't necessarily need a mandrel bender to make the coolant pipes. You do need a tube guide for the bender, depending on the material, maybe pack it with sand or try WS8 resin. If you can't get hold of a tube guide, try a piece of 1/4" thick strap to spread the pressure from the roller, altering the bend pressure by moving the roller in or out. If you have a solid bench, mount tge bender horizontally and use a big tube to get some leverage. If you can find it, maybe 409 stainless tube? It's less corrosion resistant than 304 or 316, but it bends with a lot less hassle.

I have had a mini and did not particularly like the original colour and kept it. Had a 1968 Ford Galaxy XL Fast back colour was Sun Lit Gold Metallic. After I stripped the car the painter begged me to pair it metallic blue. I did not and never regretted my decision. I hate to comment but keep it the original colour white. Love the channel. Thanks George

I miss my Esprit. I had a 1991 Turbo and she gave me many years of joy and pain. I had to let her go as I could no longer give her enough time due to work and family commitments, but watching this I need her back but in reality I can't give her the time she needs to be looked after. Those days will be looked back on fondly like an old girlfriend who demanded a bit too much but who had a good time in life. Daym I miss her.

Great intro George, you set a lovely tone on each episode. Those green lotus prints could be direct from the 80's -just need to have an airbrushed lass draped somewheres in them. That GREEN on the car evokes allusion of the Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car in a good way. I'm really curious if you are going to set off the paintwork with some bright accent stripes or lettering like the concept car did... cheers brother!

You should use a ship anoid on the side of your frame to stop rust. They work. Also fill your pipe with sand, tape the ends. They will bend better. No kinks!

Fascinating stuff as always, I suspect the material removed from the gear linkage is going to be way the most noticable when it's finished, it's easy to forget how much weight of metal you're stirring around with each gearchange, a classic example of every little helps !!!

Congratulations on the 100 episode. George. So i was thinking. As you like drilling holes in solid components which i find oddly therapeutic. Perhaps when it comes to rebuilding th engine.. you could leave the core plugs out of the block. 1/ gives that space age (1999) look. . 2/ adds lightness...🙂

BUT BUT BUT changing those brackets and washers to stainless will surely mess with the tensile yield strength and your car will surely explode!!!!! ;) Jest aside, nice work saving yourself from future headaches with some shiny new parts that will never need painting :)

Stainless can, depending on the alloy, become brittle very fast. Not my first choice for suspension parts. There's a reason why no one uses stainless in that application. Metal fatigue is real. Powdercoated chromoly would have been my preferred material.

This classic Lotus does not need somebody lightening her - she is lightening herself throwing off layers of corrosion-eschar inside and out of the sandblasting booth. As a raunchy seventies Diva, she might have already begun loosing scurf in layers when she had her first caretaker ....
