Iirc, a long time ago when Baylor was a really bad program (I think it was Baylor), they lost a game when they fumbled a handoff instead of kneeling for the win and the other team recovered, and then vs the same team the next year in the same situation, they went for the kneel but botched the snap, the other team recovered and Baylor still lost the game. 🤣

All true and nice prediction, except for the "real quick" part. Those two words are time stamped in this era. In a few years everyone will know American public school teachers were told to push those two words, or "really quickly," on their students. Or else. Why was this pushed? Because the vast majority of America's kids in the last few years bound for the factory or the cubicles, and not much thinking going on thereat. So the edict "Do task a little bit faster" sent down from on high, sent from those who breed us like cattle. Think I'm wrong? Imagine a nurse telling a brain surgeon: "Real quick, Doc, cut into this patient's head." Do you want your brain surgeon to speed things up? A coworker friend of mine heard this, and he retold the story of a friend of his requesting to "Real quick, say grace." Like God has other things to do besides listen to your prayers. "Let's go," said the Supreme Being. "We're loosing daylight." And I know it's spelled "losing" but I prefer the internet (mis)spelling.

@katarh
@katarh 8 ай бұрын
Yup. It ruins the mental rhythm of the offense and breaks up the drill - and means you can sub in a fresh defender or two if the opposing team does a last second swap. Sometimes it's petty and hopeless, sometimes you have a chance to capitalize on a mental mistake.... like Tech did. But heck. Even Mark Stoops took the knee at the last play down a hopeless 51-13 yesterday, rather than risk a last second injury on an already seriously banged up offense.

I've watched games won and lost, by teams and individuals I cheered for and others I despised, in ways unconventional, inexplicable, unpredictable, shocking, and amazing, often all at once. And I've been a sports fan since the 2000s, with a strong interest in highlights going as far back as recorded audio, video, and newspaper accounts can go. THIS IS NOT MARIO'S FIRST TIME: (2018) With Oregon leading 31-28 at home and the ball near midfield, Cristobal could have had Herbert kneel to run the clock down to 16 or fewer seconds before punting. (Stanford had one timeout left.) Instead, he had CJ Verdell run on 2nd-and-2. The call looked entirely reasonable at the moment, but the redshirt freshman fumbled. Stanford took possession with 51 seconds left and drove to the tying field goal as time expired. The Cardinal won 38-31 in overtime on Colby Parkinson’s juggling touchdown catch and Alameen Murphy’s interception.

So many times, all a qb has to do is take a knee, to run the clock out; so stupid, and see it often; many years ago, in the nfl giants lost a game, with a lead and :30 seconds to phila, when all the qb had to do was take a knee; instead, handed off, lead to fumble on the same play, and disaster. Coach has to pay for this.

@@4736dmr Yes, I understand. But give Georgia Tech credit. They can be a sleeping giant. A powerhouse back in the 1950s and 1960s with Bobby Dodd, Georgia Tech can surprise teams even now and then. Are they in the same category with Frank Beamer's Virginia Tech? I don't think so. They've never had sustainable success over a stretch of seasons. However, they did throttle powerhouse Auburn and Cadillac Williams in 2003 by the score of 17-3. Reggie Ball led Tech that day. Georgia Tech is talented. They won that game Saturday.

Wow. In the words of Jack Buck, for entirely different reasons, "I can't believe what I just saw". The Georgia Tech WR who caught the winning pass, almost pulled a Desean Jackson by sliding to early and almost went feet first. Could you imagine if the marked him short? He got it no question, but that would have been interesting.

That would have been embarrassing to come up a yard short because you decided to slide.

I don't think he decided to slide, the field was very slippery all night, and he was off balance from the catch.

Saw that too. He almost went down too early. That would have been the 2nd worst play of the game.

This is the type of loss that literally destroys program credibility from recruiting to the locker room... and prevents them from ever taking that next step under this head coach! The coach just sealed his fate with the Miami Hurricanes even if it's a year or 2 down the line!

Yep I mean look at the Miami player at the end throwing his helmet off. They know they should've won the game and the head coach who's paid millions of dollars lost it. Yea you can say the defense should've stopped them....true but they never should've been in that position to begin with. Sad part is Cristobal did this 4 years ago with Oregon and got the same result. Makes you wonder is he really this stupid or did he just get paid some damn good money to do this.

Very well said had they stayed undefeated. Recruiting class gets better but just like you said they see a stupid ass mistake like this. What the hell is that coach thinking

@@tigergirlkitaCristobal has always had trouble with clock management, *espeically* at the end of games. Also, I think Miami just got cocky/greedy and it bit them in the ass. I like the point you made about how Miami should have never been in that position. People can blame the defense or say the fumble should have been overturned, but Miami should never have had 4 turnovers. Ultimately, a win or loss is the summation of an entire game, not just a single moment that changes the direction of that game.

@Michael-on3ku EXACTLY - well said. I roll my eyes every time a fan tries to pin down a loss to *one* play (or a coach in this case; Cristobal petitioned the NCAA after this game, whining about the called fumble). Miami had _multiple_ chances to put this game away, but instead allowed GT to keep it close until a couple missteps were all it took for GT to steal one on the road. Clearly, GT was the better team that day, and they deserved to win this game.

How does that get reviewed and not get reversed? If a ref can’t tell the elbow was down befor losing that ball they should not be a ref. Clear as day
