actually,, youre AMAZING!!! my parents and i were nervous about opening the front cage (we have the top and the.. front,, that are able to be opened etc etc) but as soon as i opened the latch and put my hand through, they instantly opened up, and even started playing with me!!! ive been working my butt off these past 3 days to try to get them as comfortable with my family as possible, and so far.. slowly, it's been making progress!! thank you!! :)

This was very helpful to me, although unfortunate that I didn't see this sooner. The person who grabbed the gerbils out of their enclosure to give to us both grabbed them from above and held them by their tails. They said that it was safe to grab them by their tails, and now poor Detective Steve is missing his little tail fluff. The only nearby vet doesn't care for rodents, so we had to hope he'd be ok, and he's physically fine now.

Omg! That is actually so horrible. Gerbils can drop their tails if pulled by them so definitely best not to. Poor detective Steve ( love the name ). So happy you have him. You can always put him in a quarantine tank, paper towels, nothing sharp, toilet tubes, and monitor him until it heals up. Sorry forgot you mentioned he's fine now. I'm happy you were able to help the little guy out

My gerbil moves a ton especially trying to pick him up, so I usually pick him up using my right hand and grabbing him from the back, then usually flipping him over so I can pet him.

This video was very helpful but unfortunately the cage my gerbils are going to live in only has a space at the top to go in the the top area what should I do will I still be able to bond?

Do you mean there is no front entry, only a top entry ? If so, your best bet would be to take the lid off if you can and make it so you're st eye level or similar, instead of coming in from above. They are a prey animal and this likely would resemble a bird or something similar snatching them up in the wild. Or, remove your gerbil and use a playpen. I have a video on free roaming which is a great bonding space

@@TheGerbilVine I would try that but unfortunately when I take the top lid of it takes the whole top of only leaving the burrowing part. Or do you mean everytime I wanna pick them up I take the top of if so I could try that when I get them thank you !

@@BonBon_As you could remove it every time, or maybe try inserting an item they can crawl into and the lifting it out with them inside, that way they're not being " snatched " up :)
