Hey Mario, thank you for commenting and for trying to help. I have tried hanging the wheel upside down at 1 point when I initially got it, but when the gerbils run in it the wheel shakes and the whole entire cage cage shakes and it rustles the water bottle and stuff and makes an even louder noise. I'm not too sure how to avoid that.

They refused to use it :( I loved the idea of the carbon charcoal filter so I'm disappointed lol :(

Hey thank you much for your kind words, you made my day! To sort of summarize the answer for your question it's just a personal choice based on ingredients and nutrition levels. I found the fiber to be too high at 15% in the gerbil food, it's a about half that in the rat diet, The protein in the rat diet is only 5% more than it is in the gerbil food, which is something I also accounted for as I do make my homemade gerbil food. I also made the personal choice not to include any alfalfa based diets for what I feed to my gerbils, so those are my 2 reasons for choosing the rat version. The rat version also does not have any alfalfa in it. There is a youtuber called munchies place, and I believe that they have a video where they compare the hamster and gerbil version & the rat version of the foods. I believe they ended up saying that the rat version was actually better for the hamsters, so if you're interested that may be something to check out for some more information. While hamsters and gerbils do require different things, their nutrition can also be quite similar, So that's why I suggested the video. Your best bet will be to check second hand sites, Some pet stores also offer coupons, for example I know petsmart offers a coupon for 25% off all you have to do is beat the game in their app. So that could help you save some extra bucks as well.

If you don’t already have a gerbil or one picked out I would stalk sites like Craig’s list or pre-loved daily and wait for a gerbil that comes with cage. Most are either horror stories or subpar but if you’re patient you’ll see one that comes with a good setup
