@@TheGerbilVine hey I have a question, Preston seems like he’s hogging the wheel and even when Marty wants to use it he only lets him use it for maybe 30 seconds and then he nudged him off and idk if it’s because of this but Marty is actually a little heavier than Preston is now. I was just wondering if I should maybe get them a second wheel..?

@@victorc4_1234 If it turns into a squabble then I would say yes you may need to invest in a second wheel just to avoid any potential fights. If right now Marty doesn't have a problem with this then I think you would be OK and he may actually be your submissive gerbil. My Boys hop in-and-out of their wheel all the time, You just want to watch for fights or anything that seems aggressive or dominant. Since you are their owner and you see them day-day you would definitely know best. Is your gut telling you to get a second wheel? Does Preston's behavior seem like he is bullying?

Happy bith first of all!! :D I liked this video, but made me want to cry when I saw the footage. Some people don't see animals as living creatures that deserve respect and love. Thanks for making awareness about this problem. Animals should NOT be gifted; they are not assets, nor decorations, nor toys. There is a ton of responsability involved, and these animals should be loved by the owners. If this is not met, then it shouldn't happen at all. I would also be really peased off if someone bought me an animal. Last, I want to agree with you when you mention adoption first

Hi Mario thank you for the birthday wish. I'm sorry you found the footage so upsetting, I did try to put in a disclaimer that the footage may be upsetting to some but I think that it was important to see videos like this so that we know what not to do. I completely agree with everything you said.

Rule of thumb is that if your surprise ‘gift’ is something that will require a lot of work/money/lifestyle change from the recipient it’s NOT A GIFT. It’s an obligation. New exercise bike? You can shove it in the shed if you hate it so nice surprise gift. New car? You expect them to pay insurance and forgo choosing a car they want for themselves, so not a great surprise gift unless you know the persons tastes really well! Living creature? Not a gift! Even if it’s the most low maintenance pet in the world it STILL means you can’t take a spontaneous weekend away without providing care first

I couldn't agree with you more. Anything that is going to cost someone a bunch of money and time over an extended period Is not going to make an ideal gift. Especially an animal.

Completely agree. Unless you're there to assist in the animal care or the person was seeking out the animal (as in when an old companion pet dies) it's really negligent.

I've always wondered why Gerbils compared to other small rodents like Mice, Rats, Hamsters, etc have longer lifespans?

I'm not entirely sure. I know that degu's also have longer lifespans and to me they look quite similar to gerbils compared to the other species. I wonder if there's a connection there?

I cringed so much watching those people treat those animals like that. Sheesh. Happy Birthday! This is such an important topic. I especially loathe the trend buying of pets because of a movie. The "dire wolf" craze when Game of Thrones was really popular made an influx of Huskies, etc flooding shelters after the animal was a year or so old and the novelty wore off. A lot of people got "COVID pets" and those animals are now being abandoned, especially cats and dogs.

Happy birthday 🎉 I hope you had a great day, and I hope Jerry and Dusk had a good birthday too ☺️ I definitely agree with animals not being gifts, it's sad that pets are often treated as objects, and unfortunately the law in a lot of countries often considers them objects too, so they're really not helping the cause of valuing animals as individual beings with thoughts and feelings rather than toys for entertainment 🙁 maybe one day the world will see that animals are people too ❤️

Hey quick question bex, is it normal for gerbils to make hiccuping noises? Usually right after they wake up

Hey ! I would say this is normal but not common. I came across a couple gerbil forums online ( albeit from like 10+ years ago ) where owners clearly agree that their gerbils can have them. I also know that rats are able to have hiccups, I just haven't personally heard this from a gerbil :)
