German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be facing questions from lawmakers on why he's refusing to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
He's so far blocked moves to send the long-range weapons to Kyiv. He's worried they could be used to hit targets in Russia - and that German soldiers would need to be involved. But Scholz is under pressure from his coalition and international partners. One option on the table to bypass his reservations is a proposed cruise missile swap with the United Kingdom. This would see Germany give its Taurus missiles to the UK - the UK would then, in turn, send Ukraine more of its own Storm Shadow missiles. Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has said she is open to that idea.

I am German and as many Germans I can't understand Scholz. He seems to be afraid of the nuklear threat or/ and maybe he hopes to get ore voters on his party's side, because they do not have a majority at all. If he would communicate better or differently (in favour of a delivery,) I am sure, that most Germans would be in favour of delivering the Taurus. In the Bundestag most MPs would like to deliver, but Scholz and his Party (SPD) slow down, slow down and now even want to pretends the delivery. 😢WHY, WHY, why: maybe there is a reason, we don't know yet?

Then you did not listen. He said German soldiers would have to be involved in target programming and mission planning for Taurus. That means German soldiers would e.g. be directly involved in destroying the Kercht bridge. I don't know if this is the same for Scalp/Stromshadow. The two systems are not the same and Taurus is more capable and more complex.

@@PepeCoinMania I don't think your numbers are correct.. Europe has 510+ million inhabitants. Russia has 143 milion inhabitants. More dirt doesn't mean more power. Current NATO on the European side has 2 milion soldiers. (1.35 M in the US/CA side ). Since Russia can't even defeat Ukraine in the mudfield for the past two years, they wouldn't stand a chance against a combined Europe with conscriptions.

@@d0minarix That's wrong! Russia knows they wouldn't win an all out war against NATO, as Putin already said. However, Europe and US wouldn't win it either, as this would become a nuclear war. Why would Russia get involved in direct fighting with all these countries if they have no chance to win? What Putin has said and that some people don't seem to understand is that a couple of russian nuclear bombs could wipe out almost the entire Europe. Putin even said "there would be no winners, that would be the end of civilization". Look it up on KZfaq when he said something like: "Nato wouldn't even have time to use article 5."

Most of the Germans would agree to a Taurus delivery, if Scholz would communicate the reasons for that - but instead he communicates about nuklear threat, or that the Ukrains would perhaps shoot the Taurus to Moscow. He communicate horrible.

It is a little bit sad and vague that Germany or should I say Schultz don’t want to send the long distance missile.. saying that I think Germany also should be acknowledged for the help they actually doing. They are doing a lot. They’re sending a lot of weapons to Ukraine and helping them. I think it is needed to say that and not not only giving them critic. Those one thing he says that German soldiers need to be sent to be on the ground in Ukraine, if they should have the Taurus missile… that has been explained from various high military ranking persons that that is not necessary, so that is a poor excuse.

Germany has a massive amount of shady businesses in Russia, that's why. They refuse because they want to keep that source of big money, despite all is happening. I remember in Krasnodar I saw a massive park with stadiums and all kind of huge infrastructures that are not needed at all for such small Russian city. That park costed a ridiculous amount of money and was done by a german company. Just a little example of what's going on btw Russia and Germany. In Russia you see a lot of big German infrastructures in the middle of nowhere and absolutely not needed, just done for whatever German company and certain Russian local politicians to earn massive money. And that might be just the point of the iceberg. Too much corruption. Not to mention the gas thing.

the idea of a missile swap is especially good, considering that Taurus is much better than Storm shadow (500km v 250km) and British industrialists and military most likely dream of having and studying German technology and making their missiles also reach Germany, just as German ones can fly to London now.

The word 'scholzing' was invented in January 2023. It means "communicating good intentions only to use/find/invent any reason imaginable to delay these and/or prevent them from happening" In March 2024 the chancellor is still scholzing instead of allowing the delivery of Taurus to Ukraine and bringing German support for Ukraine up to the level of Estonia or Denmark.

Patriot missile system is operated by US Army personnel on the ground in Ukraine, HOWEVER the US Army can also operate Taurus missile system aswell So obviously it's not about lack of knowledge or qualified people to operate it, Germany just doesn't want to be blamed or more accurately gaslighted for attacking Russia this time around after their previous adventure in Russia. They are scared that Putin will jump up and claim that Germany is back killing more Russians after they killed 20 million in WW2.

My question to Scholz would be "How long will it take to teach Ukrainians to do that, how much can it be accelerated, so that we *finally* can send the things over. Make peace. No game changer weapon can save Ukraine. Anyone truly believing a nuclear power like Russia can be defeated in Ukraine really needs a check. The Russians considered NATO on their borders a threat just as NATO countries see Russia a threat. More weapons to Ukraine would finally lead to the unthinkable. I guess German leaders still have some common sense. What next for Ukraine after Taurus fails to deliver? Nuclear weapons? Are we sure we're ready for this? Peace is easy and cheap when we put aside our egos and respect each other.
