Schnitzel is from Vienna so I think you should try and go to Vienna next time and have it there! Viennese cuisine is so so nice and versatile. I think you'd love it! x

Please don't say Schnitzel in GENERAL is from Vienna that is not true or fact. You can't tell who invented the Schnitzel! You can say that the VIENNA schnitzel is original from Vienna that's it.

Wurst is pronounced vurst. In Germany W is pronounced V and V is pronounced F as in "volksfagen" (Wolksvagen)

Sorry, you are right. I got overly excited because they ate actually ate Viennese Schnitzel and I am from Vienna and we love it so much. The Viennese Schnitzel (Wiener Schnitzel) is known by that name since the 19th century so it is very much a part of Austrian history, but of course there are lots of other Schnitzel as well! I am not sure where it originated from, I thought it was in the part of Italy which used to be Austrian but i might be mistaken. I should google :). X

Right! Viennese Schnitzel is made of veal! And you only can call it "WIener Schnitzel" if it's veal, if it's pork or what ever, it's just a "paniertes Schnitzel"! And as a Swabian I must add that having a Schnitzel without gravy (and maybe Spätzle) is an absolute no-no!! :'D

Hm, I never ate Döner in Sweden.... But I gotta say, I visited many different countries so far, and in none of them I got Döner as good as in Germany. Although there are some places in which I don't like the bread or the sauce (which makes the overall experience bad) you actually can't really do wrong with a Döner (other thing is if you are extremely picky and leave out half of the ingredients.... Or you don't like the ingredients overall).

Funny with the Currywurst. It is a modern idea as the Döner is. Came originally in the late Sixtieth from Dortmund and Essen when Curry Powder became popular in Germany in the WIRTSCHAFTSWUNDER JAHREN. This fast Food recepy is at least ten years younger as I am. Former Chancelor Schröder loves it as his predecessor Kohl enjoyed his PFÄLZER SAUMAGEN. Another thing to try out. You find more about it here on KZfaq

I was based in Germany for 3 years. The basic grilled sausage is a Bratwurst (Made with Pork). These are cooked and kept warm until required. The BrockWurst is Pork and Veal and Weisswurst is Veal. All can be Grilled/Fried and served with bread and Senf. Your CurryWurst is normally a Bratwurst that they then chop up and cover with Curry Sauce then Curry Powder but I thought more like Paprika on top.

Berlin has completely changed since I was there. From 1977 to 1979 in the Berlin Brigade, US Army. The section of the wall in your video was in the American sector. Notice the round pipes on top of the wall. The pipes rolled to prevent people from climbing over the top. The British and French sectors had either broken glass set in concrete or barbed wire. The entire wall was constructed by the East German government. I was extremely happy when that wall was removed. Still have a 5 DM, Ostmark as a souvenir from the DDR.

The Bratwurst is cooked and can be served like that with bread and Senf and is made from Pork, That is then cut up (When I was there it was put into a long machine that had a handle that they pulled down to cut the Sausage up), Most places do not have a plastic bottle for the Curry Sauce but a keep hot pan, Then they dust the top with Curry Powder.

Actually the Doner Kebab is turkish with the town of Bursa being considered the birthplace of this dish but also contested by other regions of turkey with similar creations around the same time. And it was also around in other variations since the Ottoman empire of the 18th century, but wasn't until the 19th century that the vertical incarnation of the meat snack was made famous. Fast foward over a hundred years and it later made its debut first in the UK in 1966 and earlier forms reached Germany in 1969. It was also popular since the 70s in parts of the world like Australia.

Currywurst was invented in Berlin just after WW2 when Berliners obtained curry powder from occupying UK forces and mixed it with tomato ketchup. British Worcestershire sauce also may be in the ingredients. They poured it over Bratwurst and served it with bread. French fried potatoes (UK chips) and mayo is a definite departure from the traditional recipe and only German bread should really be served with it. Great as a street food snack after a night out drinking!

I know we Germans are known for our Schnitzel but we really have to give credit to our Austrian neighbours. They are the kings of Schnitzel. What you had is called a Wiener Schnitzel (Vienna Schnitzel) or actually I'm pretty sure it was a Schnitzel wiener Art (Vienna style Schnitzel). It means that it's a fried Schnitzel. A real Wiener Schnitzel is made out of veal (I hope that's right, I just googled it). But this is just one variant of Schnitzel. You could also get them without the coating or made out of turkey. And than there are lots of different sauces and toppings. Next time you have to try a place called Dicker Engel (fat angel, you will get why it's called that when you get there). They sell Schnitzel named after districts and places in Berlin. They have really fancy stuff, even for German Schnitzel standard.

A few facts about the "Berliner": Depending on where you are in Germany it is called AND filled different. In the north it's often filled with plum (never liked it), then further down red fillings are more common (like strawberry, cherry and raspberry) and in the south there are still a few other fillings, which I don't know the English name for xD so it's commonly filled with a fruity flavour but creamy ones do exist. As for the names, "Berliner" is the most common one and I think everyone understands what it is. Where I grew up (and in North Germany) it is commonly referred to as "Pfannkuchen", though this term is tricky since it's also used for German pancakes. Therefore in those regions those pancakes are also known as "Eierkuchen". Further down Germany, Berliner are also called "Krebbel", and in the south "Kräppel". Then there are a few other differences depending on the bakery, which is the sugar on top. I've seen simple granulated sugar, powdered sugar, and my favorite: sugar frosting

Although it's similar, a Berliner is not a donut! The dough is different so the texture is different. And it's traditionally filled with jam (most often raspberry or plum). You sometimes get custard filling for special occasions but no other fillings like chocolate.

These „donuts“ are usually filled with strawberry or raspberry jam and are called „Berliner Ballen“ because they were invented in Berlin. In Berlin itself people call them „Pfannkuchen“ = pancakes because they are originally cooked in a pan

it's so funny that a tomato curry sauce (or curry ketchup as we call it sometimes ) is weird for you cause for me as a German it's just totally normal

You forgot the Haxe and the Mettbrötchen. Did you even try the beer? Its like the best beer on the earth because we have a "Reinheitsgebot". Its like a sort of law for beer. It says what you can do in a beer and what not
