Thank you for spreading the word of German Heavy Metal! Being from Germany and growning up in the 80s I know all of the above, hehe.... My collection of 80s German Metal vinyl is rather big I must admit. I´ve seen a lot of those Teutonic bands live, Vanice supporting Testament was odd and Chroming Rose were brilliant on the Louis XIV tour in ´89 supporting Saxon, Metal Church and Toranaga. I´d love to own an original copy of the "Poisonoise" album, I have two different reissues, one comes with a complete live show that is even more raw than the album. My fave (at least for today) would be Atlain - G.O.E.

The 1st song Look Out by Bullet was only slightly a different version of Blackout by the Scorpions . 🦂

One German band I never hear anyone mention is Minotaur. Power Of Darkness is a completely overlooked thrash album, I remember discovering it in the 90's via Vibrations Of Doom. That site was an absolute gold mine for obscure metal.

Along with Sweden, I think Germany has given some of the best heavy metal bands in history, wheter they were popular or not. Both have many amazing bands and with awesome variety. I don't know how overlooked they are, but the debut album from Heaven's Gate is perfect to me! and Brainfever's Capture the Night as well (even "Face to Face and "You") Cheers! Special mentions: Cacumen - Bad Widow (83')/ Longing For You (84') Noisehunter - Time To Fight (86')/ Spell of Noise (88') Lions Breed - Damn The Night (85') Sudden Death - All or Nothing (87') Renegade - Renegade (86') And what I love the most from Germany, their East German bands: FORMEL 1♥️, Plattform, Merlin, Hardholz, Headless, Pharao.

Awesome, from the bands in this video i have 2 Vanize albums (Highproof and Bootlicker), 2 Tyrant Pace albums (Long live metal and Watching you) and 1 Steeler album (Underecover animal). After owning them for decades i'm still listening to these albums from time to time and loving every second of it.

The 10 albums is very few for this scene.. along with the Swedish and French metal scenes its been the most important metal scenes with so many great bands.. amazing video and keep doing this perfect job my brother. You deserve more.. for me this the absolutely best 10 german metal albums. 1. Black fate - Commander of fate 2. Midnight darkness - holding the night 3. Brainfever - face to face 4. Some observations to make: - Ruthless Metal today is one of my great sources to deepen my knowledge and my attitude as a heavy metal lover. Cheers! - Some vocalists on this list look for Udo's voice tone. And that's not bad!! - All these bands made it onto my spotify metal playlist. Especially "Vampyr". Heavy Metal rules, my brothers!!!

I would add Zed Yago - criminally underrated with one of the best female vocals ever Jutta Weinhold, later and currently under moniker Velvet Viper. Last album from 2021. is going to be one of the albums of the year on my list. Keep on rockin' 🤘💣 You know the job!

Yeah great Video. Would be worth to mention the debuts of MP and CUTTTY SARK...but with bullet, mad max and vampyre there are some bands, I should look for... Great to have some tunes now, which I missed in older videos 😉

A very cool list. Great work. First I thought I would knew most bands, but apparently I only know three. Really some hidden diamonds. I would add two from my personal list. Crossroads with the album „The wild one“ and Boysvoice with their album from 1990. Not to forget to mention the German band Thunderhead. They are in my opinion pretty much underrated and their album „Crime pays“ is a MUST for every fan of great German heavy metal music. Stay tuned!

Great list. I was actually not familiar with any of these bands. I looked more in the metal underground when I started to get into thrash. But I think all of the bands you chose here are excellent.

For me as grown up in the 80ies German it's strange to learn about most of these bands from you decades later. Back in the days me and my pals went full on Bay Area Thrash and that stuff to avoid those "cringy" German bands that i can appreciate now way more. Thanks for the lesson!

Im so glad that you did this Video! My first metal heroes where Scorpions, and of course i like bands like Accept, Helloween, Warlock, Rammstein, Running Wild etc. The German Metal scene is huge and historically very important. For me Germany its the 3rd Metal nation on earth. Sweden is number 4. And I am especially glad that you focused solely on Heavy Metal. To compare With Sweden the German domestic scene developed fast during the 1970s compared to Sweden and had its impact. Many Swedes used to watch an German TV show called "Rockpalast" during that time, like Getting candy once or twice a month🙂

Mad Max are fantastic, although I never really got into the first album. But the best German metal I must say is Overkill (from Winnenden), such a shame they never got to release an album.

Great list, i only knew a couple of those bands, didn't know Udo had a brother who sounded just like him... Dark Avenger is another great German metal band very underlooked...

A great topic that we could discuss for three days in a row without sleeping. Nice choices on your part. However, of your choices, I probably would have made that first Mad Max LP #1 and Steeler #2. Anyway, let me toss out a few more bands I thought were great: Sudden Death, Sinner (Wild & Evil LP, which was very different than their later work), Carrie, Breaker, Roy Last Group, Snake (especially the New Light LP). The great thing about the German metal records is that they didn't sell too well in the NYC area, so stores would put them in the cheap bins for $3.99 or $4.99. Therefore they were a cheap and great source of heavy metal in the 1980s. Take care.

When you mentioned "for fans of the Scorpions" I thought for sure you'd mention Cacumen (pre-Bonfire) lol. And thankfully you did not list Ghandi in there. However, "in my opinion" I would have included: Atlain (GOE) which I would have listed at #1 most overlooked (after all even YOU overlooked them) ....also Noisehunter(Time to Fight era), Mania (Changing Times), Stormwind (Taken by Storm), and Axe Victims (Another Victim) to the list besides Bullet, Steeler, Vanize, TP, & Danton. TP and Samain maybe the next 2 bands beyond the top 10. BTW, who was that in the outro? Ah nevermind...did a little digging and realized it's the start of "Sinner" by Vampyr. \m/

Some really solid stuff here, I'm familiar with most of these bands due to their connections to Accept, Gamma Ray, Axel Rudi Pell and Chroming Rose, but I also have been spinning Mad Max's debut album periodically for the past few years. The only two that I haven't encountered before are Bullet and The Hand Of Doom. Another little known German band that I've taken to recently is Darxon, their debut Killed In Action has rather odd cover art, but is a really fun early heavy metal album, and their second LP No Thrills is also good.

If I might dare I would suggest you to listen to "Vendetta": they were really a clean and good example of German speed metal, and they were also nice persons, as I met them personally at their village (Hofheim) local feast, where they were obviously headliner of the gig list.

Most Overlooked Metal Album in my eyes, is Scorpions "Lonesome Crow" Metal mixed with Psychedelic Rock. I know it's not everyone's favorite, but It's Scorpions most Overlooked Album, along with the Jon Roth Albums.

Lions Breed, Hazzerd, Cutty Sark, Faithful Breath, Steeltower, Underdog, High Tension, Renegade, Mad Butcher, Pain (not to be confused with the Swedish industrial metal band), Attack... The German heavy metal of the 80's is wonderful. There were many undervalued and forgotten bands from this wonderful country.

As usual, a great video. Unpretentious and to the point. I've never heard Steeler before, it just killed me! The best album on the list IMHO. I remember this amazing German band called HARDWARE. Just one album, "Common Time Heroes" and a very cool EP called "In Cold Blood". Check it out y'all!🤘

To be honest, some of them are classics and pretty well known, at least here in Germany. Cool to see The Hand Of Doom. I bought an original LP for 2 Euros in the 2000s and I was so excited that I got in contact with the drummer, who was excited too that anybody is remembering his old band :) He sent me three (!) unplayed copies and tapes with demos and live material + some photos. I then found a label for a proper reissue and since then the band is at least a little known in the underground scene! Currently the swedish label ON THE DOLE made another reissue on CD and LP. The original LP was limited to 500 copies in 1979... Great stuff and 100% unique!
