41 years later, you see that some songs became classics (e.g. "Tainted love, Kids in America, Cambodia, Fade to grey, Happy Bithday, Under Pressure) but there were also No. 1 Hits like "Little Bird Dance" and "Polonaise Blankenese". And some long forgotten childhood memories like "der Teufel und der junge Mann" or "Io senza te". Thank you, I love these mixes.

As in the previous year, there is a ''1950s / rockabilly revival'' retro sound (or the glam-rock version of it) on many of the singles that charted in 1981: Status Quo, Shakin' Stevens, ELO, Matchbox, Showaddywaddy, Coast To Coast, Suzi Quatro, Racey, Keith Marshall, Alvin Stardust, Get Wet, Smokie and others.

@@AniRichard In the Netherlands and in most countries Down Under was an early 1982 song, it didn't reach number 1 because that pathetic Nova - Aurora (most stupid number 1 song of 1982 in the netherlands) took it's spot. so down under only reached 2 in the netherlands, but still great, given the competition it had.

Amazing work, thank you so much for all the effort that went into it. Around 1980-ish, maybe a little earlier or a bit later, it was song by a female artist/band that the chorus went like this : 1, 2 , 3, I like you and you like me/ I kiss you if you will kiss me too/ I'm a girl and you're a booooy..." No idea who was or what was the name of the song. Years and years of research did not bring any light. If anybody could help that would be fabulous. Thanks again.

A famous entertainer (famous in Germany and in the seventies of the last century!) once said: hell is a place, where britains do the cooking, the italians manage traffic and the germans do entertainment shows 😁. Obviously, in this hell germans are also responsible for the charts! Seriously: Dieter Hallervorden, Mike Krüger, Gottlieb Wendehals, Vader Abraham, Helga Feddersen?? We are indeed some strange folks 😉!

They're excellent comedians, what's your problem Mr. Killjoy? (Spaßverderber! 😉) And a similar joke goes like this: Heaven and Hell are both run by the British, Germans and Italians. So what's the difference? In Heaven, the Italians are the cooks, the Germans are the engineers and the polite British are the policemen. In Hell, however, the Italians are the engineers, the Brits are the cooks and the Germans are the policemen! 😆
@rjjcms12 жыл бұрын
The exanded version is: in Europe heaven the cooks are French,the cars are German,the police are British,the lovers are Italian and everything's organised by the Swiss. In Europe hell the cooks are British,the cars are French,the police are German,the lovers are Swiss and everything's organised by the Italians. I first heard it on the Kenny Everett show.

Finally I had to Google "Shakin' Stevens" (Michael Barratt) who appears to have been hugely popular in the UK and Germany in the 1980s, although he was/is almost entirely unknown in the USA. Funny how some artists make the big time on one side of the pond, but never manage to cross over. Seems like he was a sort of Elvis Presley impersonator who is miraculously still alive. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakin%27_Stevens
