Really helpful, especially to see it slow and broken down. Easy to miss these subtle expert shots when watching in full speed. Thank you!

Great video! Unfortunately, the constant background music turns into 'noise' if too loud. Could you please reduce the volume of the music slightly so that it does not interfere with your explanations?

Super breakdown of a hi-level play/point & truly shows how much goes into a single point at top pro level.....I think for most of your audience, a point breakdown of 4.0 to 5.0 play would be better as the reactions , athleticism, point construction is at a whole different level. It seems you & John Cincola are the only 2 channels that are giving us this much needed understanding. 🙏

Yes. And a breakdown of 4.0 occasionally would be much appreciated. Great, very helpful video. Would like to show this to all the naysayers regarding the athleticism and critical thinking of this sport.

Great video! I think former bball players are exceptional at breaking down pickleball, I see it often and it's true. One thing I'd note is that Alshon's movement during this point was perfect. He covered middle when Riley hit his ATP, but he also recovered back to his side of the court when he saw Riley moving back over. Really great stuff!

I wouldn't say that you missed anything (thanks for the break-down, by the way). I would just note that-from all four players-there's both an aggressive patience, and a patient aggression. They're READY TO GO, but they're NOT FORCING ANYTHING unnecessarily. Brilliant stuff.

good video. I like your idea about going cross court on the Erne defense shot but the reason why everyone defends down the line is because cross court ends up being a very tough angle to hit coming from a ball off the court and you have to flirt with hitting the ball wide. I think you are better off guarding the easy shot and making your opponent hit the hard one to beat you.

I loved this video!!! I have a technical question: at 8:43 you discuss moving back to the baseline when the ball goes high for your opponent. There is definitely consensus about this on KZfaq. At rec play a couple of hours ago, there were two points where our ball went high, me and my partner dropped back to the baseline (because that's what KZfaq told us to do) and then our opponent just gently dropped the ball into the kitchen and we were way too far back to get it. Zane could have done that here too. How can I avoid this problem? Thanks, and keep up the great work!
@thatpickleballguy
@thatpickleballguy 6 ай бұрын
LIke most things in life, there are few absolutes. If you would have stayed closer to the kitchen, good chance your opponent smashed the ball at you. And when you moved back, they dropped it. Good shot by them. It's not a problem to avoid. It's a pattern to sstart recognizing. And then adjust based on who you're playing and what shots they like to hit.

How about the short-hop dinks Zane takes early in the rally when DC targets his feet-maintaining his position tight to the kitchen line? Love it. Great video. Keep up the good work!

Great job as always breaking down players shots and positioning etc.., always enjoy watching you…have learned so much over these short few months playing. Question,, on the ernie attempt, noticed his foot is in the kitchen while on the actual return shot, his teammate, takes the ball out of the air before it lands in the kitchen. Didn’t realize this isn’t a kitchen violation. Will do more research separate from this video. Keep up the fun and on point learning tips, you are the best!

Not only is a long third shot drop more difficult, it creates a bigger bounce. The ball flies further so if velocity is fixed it needs to peak higher and farther from the net before it crosses. Accelerating downward from a higher peak, the ball has more downward velocity when it strikes the ground so the bounce will be higher. With bounce height being the critical factor for attacking the fourth shot, a deep second shot makes the fourth shot that much easier. The only way to neutralize the painfully high bounce of a long third shot drop is to hit the third shot with more forward velocity and topspin. I wonder if the best players do that....

The original clip is 0:16 to 0:44, which is just shy of 30 seconds for 29 ball strikes. For each of these 17 observations, all four guys participate in making adjustments. It's a high cognitive load for the athletes, and really, it's a high cognitive load for the audience, if the audience even knows the first thing to look for. When they don't, you get a comment on the thread "tennis is a real sport played by real people derf derf". There's actually a lot of chess tactics out there, and the chess-when it works out-contributes to making the physical performance look a lot easier than it was. Dunning-Kruger relativity principle: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder + I don't know shit = therefore this is shit. The problem with not knowing shit is that when you don't know shit, _everything_ looks like shit, including a vast buffet of countries in Africa, though sadly there are a couple which legitimately don't improve much for the knowing, under present conditions.
