Dr. Kendra Campbell talks openly with host and interviewer Debbie Nelson about her path to a holistic approach to psychiatric care. She describes the life events that led her to develop a method of treatment that facilitates the discontinuation of prescription medications and avoids traditional psychiatric theories and their corresponding approaches. She also discusses her rise to fame on TikTok and explains how it is a great platform for her to get her message out to the masses. Throughout the video, she elaborates on that message, which is based on the following facts: there are alternatives to prescription medications, anyone can get off these medications with the appropriate help, and it's not hopeless.
After being told she could never have children by multiple medical professionals, Dr. Campbell had an epiphany when one doctor told her she could have children if she changed her lifestyle. She describes the epiphany as if a lightbulb went off for her to quit taking prescription medications, quit her job, and open her own holistic psychiatry practice: Free Range Psychiatry. To better help her patients cease the use of prescription medications as well, she began developing a mind, body, and spirit technique that became wildly successful. Today, Dr. Campbell practices telemedicine via Free Range Psychiatry and trains other psychiatrists in the ways of holistic psychiatry through the Free Range Fellowship.
Dr. Campbell discusses the significance of the full lab work-up all patients undergo and how critical it is in identifying the underlying causes of symptoms patients present during treatment. This is a topic she is extremely passionate about because traditional medicine typically fails to treat the body along with the brain. Holistic psychiatry, however, recognizes that the two are connected and works to evaluate the ways one affects the other. Dr. Campbell explains that despite the science behind holistic psychiatry, the very idea goes against everything the medical community has been indoctrinating in both doctors and patients since the emergence of medicine as we know it. Unfortunately, when mental illness is treated by applying artificial chemicals to neurotransmitters in the brain to treat so-called imbalances, it wreaks havoc on nearly every other system in the body. Dr. Campbell has risked her license to take a stand against these widely-held but flimsy principles she believes are orchestrated by the pharmaceutical industry.
While Dr. Campbell touches on the pitfalls of modern-day psychiatry, she focuses on holistic treatment, explaining the importance of treating the symptoms of the body to optimize the mind. She makes it clear that anyone can recover from addiction to prescription medications because there is always a cause. She explains that the cause is treatable as well, whether it is gut issues, heavy metal toxins, testosterone issues, a B12 deficiency, or one of the countless other treatable conditions. She delves deeper into the discussion of prescription stimulant addiction and anti-depressant addiction and warns of the danger of putting children on these drugs and the harm they are causing an entire generation.
On her successful TikTok profile, Dr. Campbell discusses her interactions with TikTok users and their reactions to her videos, both positive and negative. Her first viral video has since been taken down but gained popularity because it exposed the truth about psychiatric prescription medications. In the video, Dr. Campbell explained that psychiatric medications are addictive, dangerous, and mislabeled as mental illness treatment because they fail to treat anything. Her videos have been helpful to many TikTok users because she shares her knowledge of holistic healing. She provides free resources on topics like meditation and how to take vitamins and supplements, all the while remaining steadfast in her goal to break down the myths and lies that make people believe they need these medications.
Dr. Campbell ends the talk with these book recommendations for those who want to do independent research on holistic treatment:

You are on track children have been experimented on for years. At age 6 or 7 I was taking phenobarbital whenever my Mom thought I was nervous. Kill the joy.

but all these services are so much more expensive than conventional "treatments," and also, these services are mostly only available in the West. I live in Singapore and I don't think I have come across them. I need help...

Can a person rebuild the broken pathways once coming off of something like escitalopram? Or will we have a lack of experience of joy/ pleasure for the rest of our lives?
