Yes! Yes! Do it!!! * sings * One of these things is not like the other... Actually that photo made me think of my friend Daniel. He grew up in Louisiana and moved up to Oregon, so he got a culture shock with how "white" Oregon was. Funny how a skinny white guy from the South could make a mixed girl feel more comfortable than anyone.

It's way better than when Chris were talking about annoying movie goers and a rude person misbehaved behind him but when he saw she was black he didn't speak his mind. That to me was cringeworthy. Do never fear you are going to be called a racist by just pointing out a wrongdoer, when you see someone misbehaving do something about it, regardless of the race

@Orangesorbae

Aman Vinod Aman Vinod yes you are. We as black people are constantly reminded that we are black therefore we are dangerous & considered a threat which is not the case obviously, but we cannot escape it, even in the comfort of our own homes we are not safe (Ex-Dallas Officer who Killed a young black man In his Own Apartment his name was Botham Jean's) to being harassed & arrested on our own property, ( a black doctor was arrested recently for helping the homeless on his property during this awful pandemic he was giving out gloves, mask & vitamins ) to driving while black, to taking a leisure jog down the street we are accused of being a burglar and shot dead in the street- ahmaud arbery. So I say all this to say when a white Person says I don’t SEE color they should see it so they can SEE the FULL picture and realize their white privilege. It’s offensive because we SEE color everyday /we see the grave differences a second can make while living black it can be a terrifying thing. It definitely is exhausting & depressing when you constantly hear about about fallen unarmed black person loosing their life & justice is no where insight- the fear is real. I think am I next? This could be me or someone I love. When they say I don’t see color That lets me know I need to educate them on what they are saying eventho they might mean well. I hope I explain that well to you my friend.

The context of the photo makes so much more sense now that Chris came out as an Ex JW. They basically teach their followers to be prideful of the fact that they aren't racist and the faith generally promote the "white savior" mentality. It wasn't Chris's fault that some of that indoctrination still hung over his head at the time. He looked genuinely upset that he presented the photo the way he did when he talked about it in the interview.

@@accountnotfound4209 He grew up in a Jehovah’s Witness family and his friends in the picture were also in the church. It’s pretty close to being a cult (if not just an actual cult), and people who speak up about it usually get shunned by their family and friends if they’re still in the church. Stuckmann did an interview about it a few months ago apparently knowing that could mean being outcast by his family and community, so unless his friends have left the church too there’s sadly a good chance that he’s lost all contact with them.

Yeah. He was genuinely looking back on his time with them with reverence. And wasn't just being some dork like "Look! I have black friends! They don't know they're my friends. lolwutdavid I think it was the internal struggle between Walter the black man, and the white grandpa, since both people have both parts of their brains in Walter's body. Maybe the grandpa took over, and was not only running during his exercise, but since he is racist, and angry that a black Jesse Owens beat him in the Olympics, that he was even mad in the heat of the moment, and wanted to attack Chris, but another part of his brain, Walter tried to save Chris, by running the other way quickly.

+Zero, because it's just a horror movie. How many times in horror movies are things done simply for a scare? There are a million different reasons he could've sharply turned, when he saw Chris there. 1) he wanted to scare him, but didn't want to actually hit him 2) he wanted Chris to "see" what he was doing, and didn't want to hit him so sharply turned 3) white people do weird ass shit, and even in a black man's body, that is still very true .. 4) it was just scripted that way to scare the audience 5) he never ran "directly" at Chris, it just seemed that way in the dark and from his perspective. Even another black man is harshly scrutinizing what another black man is doing.... etc etc etc etc and it goes on and on and on. Use your imagination. It's a horror movie, for gods sake.

***** That was just a theory, but I think the "host" slowly start loosing control of the the body if they go too long without being hypnotized. Remember when the "grandma" talked to Chris about why she moved his phone? The grandma was smiling and crying at the same time, showing that the victim was able to briefly control the body's "emotions" from the "sunken place", even though she was never flashed. That's the great thing about Get Out, it doesn't just answer all the questions leaving it up to viewer interpretation.

This movie has something that most horror movies lack, an original plot. I always love it when films have an original plot, it makes it feel new and makes the movie feel like it is it's own movie, its not like anything we have seen before and that also shows how creative directors can be with creating movies. The movie is brilliant and is definitely one of the best I've seen this year. I'd give it an A.

benzo546 imo, in this case, it came out as sounding like he had this different lens growing up and he "understands" the plight of black people because he grew up in a diverse neighborhood. It's like he's saying "thank God I'm not like those guys (in the movie) he's so well rounded" 🙄

DarkDylan10 great movie, only issues is that I feel like it could’ve been a little scarier for me, but I don’t think most people will feel the same way as me, and the way Chris acts on the trip (where he stays with Rose and her family, despite all the things that occur around him, even after that guy in the hat screams at him to Get Out and leave. And he still doesn’t.) Such small things, so I’m gonna give Get Out an: A.

@@Jed_Elias He didn't leave when the man told him to get out because of love. If someone you're in love with wants you to stay, your emotions will likely win over your logic. He loved her too much, so it clouded his judgement. Still though, he did become more skeptical.

Just a thought on the "always seeing people as people" comment. I don't think feeling uncomfortable being the only black guy/white guy in the room comes from not seeing people as people. It comes from a feeling of being 'different,' of being aware of a different life experience. So, for example, if I'm in a room full of black dudes and I'm the only white one, I feel incredibly out of place, especially if I don't know them well. I don't feel uncomfortable because I don't see them as people, I feel uncomfortable because I'm suddenly hyper aware of my skin tone. I'm wondering if they're making assumptions about me, or of they think I'm making assumptions about them. I have to imagine that a black guy in a room full of white people has similar thoughts going through his head. Anyway, just my two cents. Keep up the great reviews Chris!

Kingtunice yeah and it's not really a single instance where you're like "omg we look so different" it's knowing the entire history of society and all those insights floating around in your head at that very moment. i don't feel like a white guy walking around in the city, but when i'm in a non-white area i feel really white, without having to hold a mirror up to myself so to speak
@enoching7

it has more to do with culture and connectivity than anything race. I'm asian and I work almost exclusively with white people in the medical field, yet it does not bother me one bit. Now put me in say, a law firm with all asian people and now I'm way out of my element and I'm very uncomfortable. If you feel uncomfortable in a room full of black people it's probably because you don't share many commonalities with them. A white guy that grew up in the hood won't feel uncomfortable in a room full of black people that grew up in a hood. A black guy who grew up in Upper East Side and went to Cornell probably won't feel out of place in a room full of white stock traders. All about A) how you were raised, and B) how exposed you were to other races.

Yeah, but it didn't make sense that he was running at a weird angle, right at someone who was outside in the middle of the night. You can't just ignore the double standard. To all the people complaining about people complaining; If roles were reversed and it were a white "fish out of water"in a neighborhood of evil black people, then the opposite side would be screaming racism just as loudly. I don't think this movie was written to be racist, I think you'd be hard pressed to be offended by this, but that's just my opinion. Luckily I have the freedom of speech to express it regardless.

Agreed. Also is it just me or did Chris bump up the grade on this one? A B+, really? that's a 89% score. Just from the issues he quickly glossed over; Pacing, jump scares, the way the humor was tied in... Maybe I only notice because I watch all his reviews but compare this to his other movie reviews (such as passengers, C+) seems more like a C+ or a B at best. Maybe I'll go see it and judge for myself though. :)

I said this before on one of Chris' previous videos, and I'll say it again: People are way too obsessed with race in films. And this comment section only proves that. The double standards are just too much, and there's pettiness on both sides of the fence. People need to understand that it's just a movie.

M J Grasscutter people are acting like it's the end of the world because it's a movie about a black dude dealing with struggles of being a the middle of a conspiracy that seems to involve white people. People are so quick to political and call "racist this" and "racist that"; to the point where both sides are claiming it. Everybody's so quick to be offended by anything that deals with race, and the double standard of the comment section shows it. That's what I mean.

candiigurl7893 But is it a good movie? A good horror movie? If it's just a race baiting cash in then I'm not interested, but if it's a well written horror movie than I'd be happy to see it.
@candiigurl7893
@candiigurl7893 7 жыл бұрын
And I understand that view point as well. My point is that there's double standard and no middle ground. If the film's center theme is just bait or simply meeting a quota then of course it wouldn't be worth seeing because it's lack of substance within the story; there's no lesson, but only surface-level tripe. If the message is directly correlated to the theme- whatever it may be- then that's completely different. Simply put: I get what you're saying too. Directors are free to make whatever kind of film they want about whatever they want, but if the theme or undertone is completely shoehorned then no one's going to want to see it.

I was raised in a predominantly white neighborhood, yet, even when I was little I saw people as people. No matter what skin color. True, I did find it odd that some people had "chocolate skin", as I called it, but I never saw it as a bad thing. Just another thing that made people differ from each other. I don't understand racism either. As I like to say, we all bleed red. Why treat someone differently just because their skin is a different color? We're all human, after all. I don't get it. But anyway, I had mixed thoughts on this movie when I saw the trailers for it. I had no idea what to think of it. Glad to know that it seems like a decent horror/satire movie. I'll have to make a point in seeing it.

There is more to racism than just treating people differently yourself. Understanding racism also comes from a place of observation. If people are people why is there just a sprinkling of people of color who appear in media and television, and of that sprinkling why do so few win top level awards. Recognizing that a black storm trooper causes uproar in some people and looking at why. It's about walking into a store and seeing leagues of products that work for european people and few that work for more textured hair. All of these things add up to a subtle message that sounds like "you don't belong here, you aren't good enough, and your people will never succeed". It is very hard to explain to someone who has always had representation what the lack of it truly feels like. Just like those Brazil pictures of intense poverty right next to shiny new houses. Saying I don't understand or see racism, isn't helping at all.
