MCU is comfort food cinema. Something like Logan is a really nice steak dinner you treat yourself to every now and then. DCEU is like those restaurants that give you ridiculously small portions for 40-50 dollars a plate and then you throw it up when you go home because the cook didn't wash his hands.

@@smurfette_blues7922 So, probably not going to watch Logan twice then... i feel like that. I diagree with the boys on this one. I dont think its a great movie. Just because it was unexpectedly bleak slow and depressing for a superhero film and has some reasonable dialogue. Oh yeah and I cant see past flaws in the plot. They were trying to get the girl back cause they need her... but actually they just were going to kill all the mutant kids??? And actually they dont need her at all because they already have logan 2.0 in the van? And to be honest by the end I was thinking the mutant kids were so jarringly violent and uncontrolable they should probably all be exterminated. Which made logan's sacrifice kind of pointless. What's the point of learning how to live and then just die. Those kids are condemned to a non normal life the same as logan was. This has the same hallmarks as Darth Vaders 5 mins in Rogue One for me. I.e. some fan service logan clawing people doesnt make up for a drudgingly depressing movie.

I don't know how you could care about it once you know its just about campaigning and convincing a group of nobodies that your movie should get a trophy.
@Bombom13003 жыл бұрын
@@doomstadt2371 I think it's less about the trophy and more about the public recognition. Like it or not (and trust me, I don't either), a lot of people still care about what those 'nobodies' say about movies. If a nerdy movie gets approval it brings nerdy stuff that much further into just general acceptance. That's a lot less of a big deal now when nerdiness seems to rule and we have things like Marvel that are just broadly popular, but I can totally understand people who grew up in homes that shunned this sort of thing being genuinely excited about nerdy stuff getting proper recognition. I mean, imagine if your parents shamed you for liking X-Men, and then the snooty movie experts they listen to every year declare superheroes to be the pinnacle of cinema. Dysphoria Blue It's also interesting that people seem to only regard this as Hugh Jackman's send-off. It was most likely Patrick Stewart's as well. Hell, it was most likely a send-off to the entire "older generation" X-Men movie era. We may see cameos from Ian Mckellan or something in some future movies, but I don't imagine we'll ever see another extensive Days of Future Past type movie again, and we're definitely not gonna see any full on original cast movies again... that era is effectively over now. Saw Logan last night. LOVED IT! There were legit people sniffling towards the end of the film. I myself was trying to keep emotions in check. It was so sad and so fitting at the same time. Excellent movie.

So funny enough, I recently watched a movie on Netflix called "The Perfection" that she stars in, and I think as a response to get out, she is in a Lesbian, Interracial, relationship. It's actually really good, lot of twists, turns, you never know where it's going, it's super bizarre, you should check it out.

Logan is why I go into a movie without spoiling it at all for myself. I didn't know what was coming, I didn't pay attention to any of the press at all, and I didn't know this movie would leave me speechless for minutes after it ended. This is one of those movies you don't spoil

Jordan Peele's DVD commentary actually talks about the ending, where he originally filmed the ending Mike and Jay were talking about, where the actual cops show up and arrest Chris for murdering his girlfriend and her family (which I think is also on the DVD). But he says that given the current social climate, a happier ending was needed.

+Redresseny The problem is that isn't normally the case. Remember, Dark Knight was a very thematic superhero movie but when the rest of Hollywood tried to imitate it, all they thought was "OH IT SUCCEEDED BECAUSE IT WAS DARK SO LETS MAKE OUR MOVIES DAAARK". In the case of Logan, they will likely think it succeeded because of the violence and that it was "moody". Hollywood normally takes the face value approach.
@sonofagun45057 жыл бұрын
Redresseny I know the comment is a little old but they aren't enthralled by the fact he's cursing. the fact that he cursed right away is kind of a insight on what the rest of the movie was going to be like. I personally felt like it coulda used less fucks, but it was showing you it's going to be a more gritty movie compared to the old campy x men movies. IMO

I'd fucking love if they just ended the X-Men universe as we know it with this film and then reboot the entire thing with new actors and an actually decent vision. Don't go PG at all, just have PG-13+ films from there. Show blood, they don't have to say fuck all the time but they would do well against the Marvel films if they went a little step beyond which is what the Deadpool and Logan films have done. I think both are proof that we want good stories that aren't sanitized, we don't want films that set up an entire universe but instead are part of a universe that is built up by the stories. Logan succeeded because it didn't explain everything, they left you with questions about what happened, they didn't beat you with exposition, they just gave a good road trip story. I really hope the studio stamps out Singer and puts someone who actually has a vision in charge of the franchise like Mangold himself. He has done 2 of the films now and one was good and the other was excellent. They couldn't find a better director for the rest of the films really.

So… Days of Future Past?
@acrowbar23947 жыл бұрын
Also I think you're forgetting about Matthew Vaughn.
@ShaneFagan7 жыл бұрын
Not days of future past, what I mean is a complete reboot into a new universe. Go PG-13 and R rated films sometimes in this one. Matthew Vaughn would be a good option too. I think Mangold has proven that he has a good enough vision for X-Men films as long as there isn't massive studio interference.
@acrowbar23947 жыл бұрын
Shane Fagan Future Past was supposed to do that but they fucked up the first movie in (Fant4stic), and the first sequel to it (Apocalypse, which I still liked but it wasn't nearly as good as the first two in that trilogy). And every movie since Future Past has been Pg-13 or R (Fant4stic and Apocalypse were Pg-13, Deadpool and Logan were R). Since they already rebooted to correct the mistakes of the past, do you want them to reboot after after single screw up? So far post-Future Past it's been 50-50 on the quality. Two good movies, two not so good movies. I don't need yet another reboot. Too many have made me stop caring as much about Spider-Man. Every time I get attached to a character, they scrap the franchise and reboot. While DC has certainly had a rocky start, at least they're sticking to their guns and just trying out new strategies without needing to erase all their progression. I'm glad that Fox just did their reboot already and while some decisions have been questionable, rebooting again so soon would be ridiculous. Just make Deadpool 2 good, make X-Men Nova good. The only viable reboot option is Fantastic Four. I'll admit I actually like Fant4stic but figuratively-literally no one else did so it might be financial poison to do a sequel, so rebooting that again, probably last minute, might be their next thing.
