Hi Sarah - looking really good, so satisfying seeing the bed all weeded and ready to go. I think the bulbs might be ok as long as they don't rot - I often lift mine and replant them in a different position and they still come up every spring. Soak the sweet pea seeds overnight before planting them, and have your climbing trellis in place before planting so you can train them up it as they grow - it'll look awesome! Loving your channel - going to recommend to friends over here!

I bet the birds are just going for the easy seeds up top. It looks like you do have some quack grass roots in your wildflower garden, they have hardy roots so you will see the grass coming up again. You are either going to be cleaning the garden out now and then or leaving it to give it a good spray of roundup before you plant anything. I just try keep up with the grass where I can, it is hard to get rid of.

Hi Sarah. Enjoying watching you set up a lovely garden. Once you've weeded, if you put down cardboard from old boxes, wet it and then put sugar cane mulch over the top it keeps the weeds away. Really cheap and effective and feeds the soil. You can put the cardboard around your plants or cut holes in it for the plants. We can buy sugarcane mulch by the bale from Bunnings in Australia. Good luck with it all!🙂

I've got a big heavy duty flat type 2 feet long by 14" wide...wire basket with short sides 4" tall... that fits across my wheel barrow..you could find a wire frame and add wire to it....you could lay finer mesh on top of 1/2 inch if you want it finer for seeds.......but 1/2 inch is nice.....When I weed I can shovel dirt in it weeds and all...and scrape it around across the wire until all the dirt falls through. anything 1/2 inch falls through, into wheel barrow... weeds and rocks and sticks dont go through, dump those on a bucket.......what falls in the wheel barrow is perfect....even fine enough... for carrots. Very fluffy no weeds....I mix a bag of compost into the sifted soil and put it back in bed area. It's easier because your standing up over the wheel barrow.

Its twitch and every bit you leave in the ground will regrow. I have it in my border and every year I have a fightwith it. Your sweet peas will like some well rotted horse exhaust dug in deep. You can buy bags of horse manure in the garden centre.

That seems really reasonable... your half plot is huge. It would take up about half of my backyard.. I'm loving watching your progress and how you use things from your mudlarking....And I'm getting good ideas from you for my garden this year...(that's what we call our allotment..). 🙂

That's couch grass Sarah .Its a nightmare as it spreads like crazy and any tiny bit will regrow .Dont compost it whatever you do .Bin. it or burn it .Most seeds are best sowed in modules in your polytunnel .For veg beds invest in a roll of water pipe from Screwfix to make hoops for netting .Its almst impossible to grow decent veg without netting. but it's a one off cost .Sweetpeas are likely to get eaten planted from seeds but worth a try 🙂

Looking fab Sarah and the entire allotment for that matter is so tidy. I love the community aspect of it. I grow sweet peas (just put out this week) in starter trays in clumps, pinch them out a few times to thicken up more. Then sow direct more around those and they make a huge mass. Hi Sarah, you do need to get out the roots they are couch grass, it’s very invasive and will grow from the smallest bit of root and smother your flowers.

I'm so jealous that you have a toilet on site sadly my site doesn't fortunately I have a shed an bucket. Also just taken on another half plot its going to be hard as its clay also had a lovely oak tree on it came down in the storms in January plus this half was used to dump rubbish on .

Hi Sarah here in Oregon we call that grass crab grass and it is awful it's roots are long and sometimes they are connected to another group of crab grass the only way we have really gotten rid of it is to pull it so good job. I don't really understand the allotment stuff can't you have a vegetable or flower garden in your yard? Anyway I am enjoying this channel and your mudlarking channel thank you for sharing .

Hello Sarah, your allotment is looking great, the stringy grass is called couch grass, try and get as much out as you can, it spreads like mad and will take the bed over if you don't keep it under control, Soak your sweet pea seeds in water overnight before you plant them, it helps soften up the seed and they're more likely to sprout. Hi Sarah, the stringy stuff is couch grass invasive, soak the sweet pea seeds overnight then use toilet roll tubes as pots and grow inside you just plant the whole thing stops root disturbance plant out after the last frost , 🍀🐝🪷🐛🐞💫
