I'm not trying to generalize, but it seems that individuals raised predominantly on rap are programed into thinking lyrics are always the most important element of a song. It's like they can't appreciate melody, harmony, or the intricacies of instrumentation, because those are not the main elements of that form of music. The words and the beat are the main elements in that form of music, so they gravitate to that. Hip Hop is changing though, starting to incorporate other melodic elements of music into their songs. It's been happening for a while, but it seems like more so now, especially with artists like Ella Mai and Khalid. I almost hate to even lump Khalid or Ell Mai into the Hip Hop category, because they cross so many genres in their style. And I think with the advent of KZfaq, more and more younger people will start to recognize the genius of Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and others, and more and more, music will evolve into something more meaningful than what rap started out to be. Peace

I think it's good to pay attention to the lyrics, but sometimes you just need to vibrate with the song, it's about balancing and enjoying each part. I'm sorry, but when the song is a vibe, I can't enjoy Brad's reactions, I literally put a piece of paper in my notebook so I don't see Brad's face, because he ruins Lex's reaction. I hope they start doing solo reactions in the future!

Wow! You finally reacted to "You Shook Me!" That thing between Robert Plant singing and Jimmy Page on guitar is titled 'call and response.' Thanks for finally responding to this wonderful bluesy song! 🙂 And kudos to you, Brad, for finally getting the mystery of Led Zeppelin. Their music was made to be 'listened to, which meant that those of us back in the day sat in front of two awesome free standing speakers and an incredible turn table and separate audio receiver set, got our groove on with a drink or a joint, and LISTENED to this incredible music. If you think their individual instrument sound separation is phenomenal in your headphones, just imagine how damn good it sounded coming out of two free standing stereo speakers.

Members of Zep were initially inspired by the blues greats going back as far as the 30s and 40s, real old school: Willie Dixon, T-Bone Walker, Sony Boy Williamson, etc. As the band developed, they built more of their own sound, but never fully left the blues behind. On their last album, Presence, they wrote an adaptation of an old gospel blues standard dating back to the early 20th century: Nobody's Fault but Mine. Zep is the best-selling rock band of all time, and for good reason. All the members were virtuosos and masterful songwriters. In their heyday, they'd sit down and write songs from scratch, even complex songs like Stairway to Heaven and The Battle of Evermore. They were not only great musicians and songwriters, but excelled at improv, for seldom did they play any song live the same way twice. All of this is why many call Zep the greatest rock band of all time. Simply the best.

Harmonicas were hot in the 70's, from Robert Plant to Ozzy Osborne, they all used them, and they are two of my favorites... check out Ozzy on harmonica in the song "The Wizard" when he was with Black Sabbath... the "alley" sound that lex hears is natural room reverb, obtained by setting up microphones at a distance from the instruments to pick up wall reflections. the echo recording is then mixed with the dry track to make it sound like you're somewhere in a dive bar with brick walls echoing everything the band plays.

The first time I ever heard this was about 35 years ago at a frat party with true quadraphonic surround. Mind blown!

I like how Lex had her unique interpretation on the song…..and Brad had this confused look, and doesn’t know what she is talking about…

Thanks for the evaluation , i'm 68 and love people who enjoy the classic older music! All types of music was played on radio in those days , soul, rock , country etc. It was a mix and people enjoyed it !
