Greg, I noticed no one has sent in CIB PS1 games. I have a copy of A-Train long box that I have had since I was a kid and bought it new and comparing it to the copies for sale on eBay it's in amazing shape, it only has one noticeable flaw and wanted to know how much you would think it would effect the grades.

This issue with the box is apparently when I was younger I was writing on something that was on top of the box, so you can't see it from looking straight on but if you look at the box in the light at an angle you can see it say $14.99 slightly indented into the box. How much do you think that would affect the grade. The rest of the box is amazing, the instruction book should grade out well, and the disc is virtually flawless.

as someone that has been living in Japan 8 years and been in the market for a very long time. I'm glad you mentioned chrono trigger. That game is still 800 yen or less yen CIB and even buying it at secondhand shops would have the pack of cards inside still. I used to buy every copy I came across bc the cards are worth 10x more than the game.

Carboard is cardboard. Any cardboard that's damaged that much would never get a grade that high. A sports card that's completely crunched and wrinkled on the back, would never get an 8.

Cards use a completely different scale than comics/games, remember. If we use the same number of scale intervals as cards, this CGC 8.0 game game would be a CGC 6.5 card.

So given your experience + the recent CGC controversies, would you recommend using them? How about over Wata? VGA?

I have no issues at all with CGC video game grading. As far as I know, the process for encasing the games and the comics are different, so ideally we don't have to worry on this end... Right now, CGC and WATA are the two grading companies I use! I send a bit of stuff to both depending on what it is

Hey Greg quick question please if you don't mind answering. When roughly do you think it is best to sell a full collection of Pokemon games boxed and complete, from Pokemon yellow all the way to leaf green and fire red. Appreciate any feedback, thank you!

Generally speaking, sometime in Q3 or Q4 as Christmas approaches and people may be buying gifts or treating themselves. I think most sellers will say that right now (Q1) is generally the "slow period". Tax season is coming up right away too where it might be worth having some of your stuff listed for sale if people feel like spending their tax money haha.

Hey Greg! Not sure if you already made a video about it, but how do you and/or CGC determine if a unsealed box is not opened? I used to collect a lot of Japanese Gameboy Games and a lot of them have crispy boxes, but I’m totally unsure how to value that. Is there a grading option where CGC is grading the game as „Game in Box“ if they value it as opened? Thanks in advance :)

I personally have a 40x loupe and I examine the hinges on either side for any signs of paint cracking from being opened. I'm sure CGC has their own methods too (of which led my Chrono Trigger to being rejected), but they haven't openly shared their methodology. You can also grade opened Japanese games with them, yes! I don't know if they are accepting JP game Boy just yet, though!

Yeah, these places grade open games as well, as long as they are CIB "Complete In Box." Not missing any of the original components.

Just out of curiosity, if I were to order a couple copy's of PS5 games directly from the PlayStation website, and sent them in to CGC to get graded, would they most likely get 9.4-9.8 ratings? Is that fairly safe to assume? I'm just asking because there are 2 games that I really like and I want to get them graded just for my own personal collection. And I want them to have high scores because that will make me happy 😅

Yea it would be quite safe to assume 9.6-9.8 A+ or better on them. If you get them and they have an obvious flaw, perhaps you could even just return it and try again haha.

I got a NFR tears of the kingdom back from them 9.6 A++. Their reason for a low grade a tiny line. I'm thinking of sending it to wata.

I am actually kind of shocked with the grades these games got for the condition they were in. Especially that Ghouls n Ghosts. 9.0 For a (for my standards) smashed corner? Well, I don't really care for graded games, so maybe I just have completely wrong expectations.

With video game grading the range can be deceptive. While the theoretic range is 0/10 the actual realistic range is 7.5/9.8. So while that game may seem high at an 8 you gotta keep in mind that for one it's far below average and two it's still mint aside from the corner. Damage to the front is also graded more harshly than damage to the back.

I've had games mysteriously rejected by WATA- the hardest hit was a Sealed Pele's soccer for Atari 2600- paid 100$ for a great sealed copy, WATA said the seal was fake........ Not sure how as the price tag was still on there from original store. I'm going GCG from now on.

I probably keep ~75% of everything I grade. Usually sell off a handful to help at least recoup the costs of grading (hopefully more)

VGA currently would have been almost 4x the cost to get them graded haha. Until they lower their prices, I won't be using VGA unless I absolutely have to.

Wait, so if you would have sent to WATA instead, they could have graded the Secret of Mana as CIB instead of unopened? Then at least you get your grading fees worth.

that 9.6 Star fox was a nice gift. that street fighter was borderline maybe, was that bump in the lower corner the only damage? that dragonball w the tear- still got a 9.0, Would've thought 8.5 (unless that was the only imperfection) on that one since it was big enough to be more than fraying and also large enough to notate on the damn case, gives it the stink of death. Outside of the rejection, nice run overall.

The street fighter had more tiny scuffs and dings. In my original video, I'm leaning more towards a 9.0 which is why I had "hopeful" 9.2 haha. So 9.4 imo is generous. Having that small tear noted on the case is such a freaking "ugghhhh" haha. Given its size and location, I don't actually agree with that one being noted.

@@GetTheGreg Yeah, couple of gifts, I'm sure you'd trade those gifts for the chrono to be graded, and at least 9.6. Yeah, you know they are inconsistent with that type of stuff. I've seen those corner tears not be noted. Or I've seen water spots not be noted, and then sometimes they are. I think it might be to where they might not be clearly recognized by a potential buyer (like looking at it, sometimes that white marking in the corner of the box opening could be a wear mark from opening, or a mild crease in combination w wear etc since the area is still tight) so they note it, which really changes the value. So much so, that if the tear were more obvious, so they didn't deem it to be noted, that it'd likely be worth more, even to you. Any negative note on the case is always a boot from me to the highest bidder.

Hey Greg, can you provide us with the names of the seller(s) who you bought from on Buyee? When it comes games without seals, I'm having a hard time trusting they're actually unopened. Especially when they don't show pictures of where the creases could be. Man, you're really making me want to send some of my SF games to CGC. But, I'm going to wait for Wata to start accepting them lol.

Hey man! There actually isn't a list of like "safe" sellers I can really provide outside of a couple names (and even then, I've heard of people getting opened games from them). But these sellers do usually have very good photos and auction games semi-regularly: "HochPoch" "Home_29678" (something like that. I don't know the exact numbers in their username haha). Unfortunately, the reality is that a lot of purchases are going to be gambles which makes this very frustrating overall (and why I actually have so few Nintendo games in general even after 2 full years of hunting).

Don’t get the Japanese sealed hype personally considering these games are still in abundance in Japan .. guess those who don’t know that will pay a premium.. Japanese really don’t care over sealed vs cib .. all their cib are pretty mint too (know several resellers who hit akiharbra on the reg)

I tried selling graded video games on eBay...Worst experience ever. Once I all the auctions ended after 10 days for CIB CGC Graded, The title had CIB, the description had CIB, the pictures had CIB...I had half the game orders canceled because I didn't change the "Condition Brand New" which is an eBay default on every listing and it's not used when selling graded comics, no one pays attention to it except game collectors. Had to cancel all these orders with angry emails saying "It's not sealed, I don't want it" after they won the auction. Then game cases show up broken ect...was a total nightmare, I'll never sell graded games ever again. Customers don't read descriptions or look at pictures, they just look at the "Brand New" and bid blindly then blame the seller for their fuck up for not reading anything on the listing

If you pay them for cleaning you get higher grades. I had two basically identical games i paid one for cleaning and one wothout, 9.8 compared to 9.6 that donkey kong could have been upgraded to 9.6 with deep clean option

How much are the Donkey Kongs worth? I got 1,2,3 japanese versions to be graded. The boxes are bit worn I would geuss they come back maybe 7 lets say. I also have a Mario RPG japanese version I would recon it would grade some where in the 9's. How much would that be worth? Im a real noob here😂

Are you saying you have those games brand new, never opened? (As in, the boxes themselves have never been opened). Because if they are used/opened copies, their value is minimal.

@@GetTheGreg well they are opened, and boxes are somewhat ok but they probably been played before. Didnt pay much for them, €160 in total for the 4 of them, I recon would have them graded try to sell the donkey kongs with a little profit and re-invest again. Worst case I got some nice art for my office of games I enjoyed the hell out off as a kid but with Japanese artwork

Not an actual German location, but they have a German dealer who can help with submissions/returns. He still has to ship the stuff overseas, though. Retroecke_24 on instagram is who it is!

Congratulations on the grades butt with the whole controversy with cgc saying they might do pre-screen 9.9 for comics and ruining the value of all modern 9.8 comics don't be surprised if they eventually do that to graded games meaning the 9.8 won't be the Pinnacle best and all the 9.8 games you have will drop in value just like they're going to do to comics I keep praying that they change their mind and realize it would really tick off a lot of people and will ruin the value on the 9.8 market but corporate greed is Corporate greed so I'm worried I was going to actually send in some more comics to get graded in a pre-screen 9.8 and get some video games graded For the First Time by cgc but after what they just said they might do I'm waiting to see

My thoughts are, a grade is always subjective. You can send any product to any panel of self proclaimed experts and if you pay them $50 per item I don’t see why they wouldn’t give you good grades in order to get you to grade more games in the future. If you find a minty copy, great, doesn’t mean the disc or cart isn’t rotten or playable. These minute differences in quality of packaging is irrelevant to anyone without money to burn. 😅

Being able to judge whether a game is new based on the flap just seems very sketchy and unreliable to me. I’ve heard stories that if done properly and very carefully, one could open a box and it show no wear. Plus, you’ve been doing this a long time. You think it’s “new” but why does the opinion of somebody at CGC trump your opinion? And then let’s say WATA eventually grades it as legit, it’s now considered “new”? I think this whole process just shows thee flaws with grading: your experience and knowledge means nothing; you pass it around until somebody accepts it as “new”;
