It actually insults and proves her concerns calling it her "privilege". Her life and their accomplishments are not privileges, but the direct consequence to what they have completely earned and worked extremely hard for in creating and building their life and family. I used to watch a ton of beauty influencers (Emily Noel, Rachh Loves, Allie Glines, Kathleen Lights etc.). I have nothing against those lovely ladies, but you have morphed and grown and changed your channel as my life has changed as well. I have continued following you all these years (I've been following since around the time you got engaged) because you are more relatable to me. I am a SAHM and wife, so I am not buying a ton of new makeup. I'm also being more intentional about what I do buy, so I dont purchase very often. I love your lifestyle and home content! I agree about the phones! As parents we have to protect our kiddos and teens when they don't have the capacity to understand the dangers and consequences themselves.

It’s so refreshing to hear another parent talk about not giving their kids a phone or social media. My kids are only toddlers too but I think about this a weird amount. Us “strict” parents need to stick together! 😂 but seriously protect your kids at all costs nobody else will do it if you don’t and when I heard that it really changed my perspective. No one cares about your kids the way you do.

My sister didn’t give my niece a phone until she turned 13yo. At this age she was having more after school activities and it really helps my sister know when to pick her up by her calling. I remember having to use the pay phone to call my mom, but I don’t think they have those in school any more. My nephews are in elementary school and neither one will have a cell phone until, they are teens. I don’t have kids but I like parents wanting their children to be kids for as long as they can. Childhood is so fleeting and by having kids play with others is so much better for development than to be distanced by technology.

Jessica, I so relate to your chat. I grew up in a tumultuous home with very little money and that is putting it lightly. I also saw a lot of domestic abuse, drug addiction, and neglect.. I am now 41 living this incredibly fortunate life with great kids and a husband who works so hard and is my best friend. I struggle with all of this because of how differently I grew up. I feel guilty, flat out. It’s almost like I just will never identify myself as someone living a happy life who doesn’t struggle financially. My husband who also grew up like I did has a hard time with owning a successful business. Guilt, all the time. One of the only ways I have been able to mitigate this is by giving to others as much as we can, and realizing that God has allowed us to have the opportunity to bless others. We have to also own the fact that we have persevered, worked hard and hold gratitude in our hearts for all we have but also for all we have been through because that taught us so much. It has given me tremendous insight as a parent, and gave me a huge heart for children living in poverty and abusive situations. My own kids were raised to always be advocates for others, and to be grateful for how they live. And I pray they continue to live with a humble and grateful heart in this broken world. Much love..❤

As someone who grew up with my mom also doing all the cooking and cleaning, I have learned to shift my mindset that the keeping of the home is not just for the woman. My husband eats and uses dishes and wears clothes too. You are equals, partners and the tasks of the home should be shared because you both live there. Don’t feel guilty to letting your husband cook for you, especially if he enjoys it and it could be part of his love language. 😊 I really enjoyed this video.

I really really love the vulnerable chats, life can feel so lonely and isolating but when you see someone else dealing with the same things it’s less heavy. I hope you believe us when we say we don’t think you brag about anything. I love being happy for you! If someone has a negative reaction to what you share and the choices you make in your life, it’s a reflection of what they’re feeling about themselves. Some people are not ready to face their triggers and deal with the hard stuff within. That’s not something you should let stop you from celebrating yourself and the results of your hard work! Thank you for sharing with us 😊

Speaking as someone who is probably your mom's age, I think your parents can see how life is different for you than it was for them, and in the end all they want is for you to be happy. They know you have a good head on your shoulders! Siblings might experience some jealously, but surely they too just want you to have a great life.

I am an "older" subscriber, I believe. (71) But I couldn't agree with you more about the "guilt". I have always felt that way - and was afraid to tell folks some things because it would sound like "bragging". Being brought up to think it sounded conceited to talk about good things about yourself has a lot to do with it. Not that being brought up that way was a bad thing - it's just how things were. Even now, when we plan a big trip I feel like even my kids (grown up) will think we are bragging about the fact that we are able to do this. Right now as a matter of fact we have a trip to Disney in September booked and I just booked a beach trip to Mexico in October and felt guilty telling my daughter (yesterday) about the Mexico trip! It's weird, but it's definitely a thing!! Love watching your videos and love your family!!

2 comments I’m so thrilled to hear you talk about. 1) Kids/youth with cell phones. I’ve seen what my phone has done to me and I want better for them. I think more & more people are waking up to this and the more we talk about it, the easier it will get. 2) I’m so glad to hear you got help around the house. Like you said, it may be just for a season. And as your kids get older and can help with chores around the house, that too will make it easier. Your & Tyler’s mental health is so important to the mental health of your whole house. You 2 are very busy and productive people. I think it’s good for the kids to also see you modeling asking/getting help so they can ask when they need help too. My Mom did everything growing up. She worked full time, did all the cooking, we kids helped with housework. But she was stretched so thin and we all saw what it did to her.

My thought: I was a stay at home mom for 11 years and i used to get the “it must be nice” comment a lot! It actually bothered me only because its still A LOT of work! And people dont realize that. You never get to clock out and leave work there. So it got frustrating but on the other hand it WAS VERY nice! My husband and i got to a place and it worked well for our situation and everyone is different. At that, i would never let someone else’s opinions or jealousy change my appreciation of the life i lived (many things have changed since then so its not all the same now) so dont let snarky comments or even the fear of make you less open to be proud of where you have come in your life. It wasnt just handed to you, its taken a lot of work and planning and trust in Gods plan that has brought you here!!! Sending all my love to you and your family ❤️

I can totally relate and understand the feelings and thoughts u describe. Similar upbringings, similar “roles”seen in my life, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize some of this guilt we feel comes from the patriarchy and misogyny. Sometimes those two things happen inadvertently with the best of ppl in our lives, it’s not that our mother’s were abused necessarily , but watching them play that patriarchal role is in our raising and it leads to feelings like this. Also, if a woman makes more money then her husband, that’s another facet of those two issues. So, for me, I have to tell myself that how we choose to run our home and what works for us and the successes I have as a woman are perfectly normal. It’s okay to feel these things but don’t let them hold u back please, love ya Jess! ❤

I recently hired a cleaning company solely so I could spend more time with my young son. I felt I was missing out on too much because of the time I spent cleaning. It took me a long time to realize the cost/benefit of such a service and I also felt guilt about it as someone who grew up in a very low income household. I didn’t want to tell my mom and when I did, her reaction was surprisingly that of pride - that we had come so far that we could afford it, that we realized we needed the help and sought it out, etc. As moms, we put these “shoulds” on ourselves that are unrealistic - i.e. we “should” be able to do it all. By hiring the cleaning service, you are making a choice that it is good for your family and you should take comfort in that decision! No judgment!

Regardless of lifestyle differences you are still extremely relatable. You are grateful. You are humble. Anyone of us would hire a house cleaner or travel often if we were in your position. When God has blessed you with abundance, accepting those blessings is being grateful to Him. And if God tests you with adversity, being patient in those times is being grateful to Him. Live your life unapologetically. Free your mind from what other people might think. You are yourself and thats why we love you. You aren’t fake. The other day I asked my husband what would be the first thing he would buy if we had unlimited means. He said a personal chef and I agreed, lol.

I agree with your great comment to Jessica. And you know what? She is helping contribute to another family by hiring someone to clean. We need more people like Jess in the world without a shadow of a doubt! 💛

I’m there with you 110%. For example, my husband has a ridiculously successful business. I’m a RN and only work part-time, basically just to keep my clinical skills up. My mom retired four years ago and started cleaning on the side for extra money. We pay her to clean our house weekly when we truly don’t need it (because I’m here and our kids are older), but there’s no way she wouldn’t let us give her money. So, I always feel terrible for her to be here cleaning my house when we could easily give her money every month and I could clean the house. It’s just one of those terrible feeling things. A lot more conflict comes with privilege than most people think. Staying as humble as you are is key. You’re fabulous 💗

I totally understand the feeling of guilt around successes that maybe you don’t feel worthy of or maybe you don’t want other people to feel badly about not being able to do. It’s a weird experience, but just remember the whole “it must be nice” is a never-ending cycle. Because something those same commenters are doing might fall into the “must be nice” category, we just don’t know because they aren’t posting it online. There’s always someone doing better and always someone doing worse, it’s unrealistic to expect everyone to do the exact same thing, regardless of situation.

There is nothing better than cleaning service once a month. Try to enjoy it! My mom was a SAHM, and I don’t feel guilty working because there are positives and negatives to any of these decisions. I loved having my mom around when I was little, but as I grew up I wished I had her as a role model for what a career could look like for a mom. You win some you lose some- choose what you think is right for your family!

Jessica, sweet Jessica! Whoever says, "must be nice..." in order to guilt you about your life, I don't care what it is... that person is not worth worrying over. Anyone who is worth worrying over will say we are so proud of you and happy for you and love to see your family thriving and making precious memories. Because that's the honest truth! The kind of talk that makes you feel guilty is just jealousy. "Your people" will be the ones who turn that jealousy into happiness for you and your family. That's just what it is. Please do not feel like you have to guilt yourself over anything because it is a different day and age. Two income households were not as typical as they are now, and those jobs all look very different. Grow, adapt, and support the people you love. That's what it's all about. 💖
