Tom, SOME of the streamers in this group have a lot more (and a lot more cursed) memes than the others, which is why you are noticing such a strong detective-theme. It's like how if someone made a yogscast version of this game, there would be an excessively large amount of tom&ben references around compared to everyone else. People would be asking why the game has such a strong centaur-theme to it.

Yes, "cutting board" is a reference to some Hololive member's chests. In fact, the 'flat' holocure characters (Gura, Ina & Suisei) get a 30% buff to the cutting board. It's a really cool weapon.

Tom, I recommend playing with a controller, if you use the right analog you can aim where you want to hit WHILE still walking, so you can strafe and attack behind you.

The tuxedo cats are called bloom and gloom, who are Irys' mascots representing IRyStocrats(her fans). They were designed after the game was first released, her fans were represented by flying things which I think may have been a placeholder by the creator (though I'm not sure). They were designed with the help of Sana, who also has new mascots in this version, the bread dog. Her fans were previously the weird orange noodles.

Happy to see you pick this up again, if you have not already since updating the game play Sana (tanned council girl) for 10 minutes then be defeated /win, this unlocks the limiter that gives LARGE pickup range increase.

All the enemies in the first stage (except the giant laser fox midboss) are references to the first two rows in the character select screen and the new stage references the new characters that were added.

The rich Hololive lore is like Warhammer lore where its long, winding, and weird and you sound kinda crazy explaining or hearing it. I am very much enjoying these videos though; I agree the game is super good.

Since the update new unlockable items were added, playing with Kiara unlocks Chicken Feather(revive), Sana unlocks her Limiter(100% per lvl) and Korone unlocks a weapon X-potato, if you play while using the item Sake it unlocks a weapon Wamy Water and clearing stage 2 unlocks a weapon CEO's Tears.

Glad that you’ve gotten around to playing the update! It does have full controller support and I personally think it plays better with a controller. These are pre recorded, so I don’t know how much ppl have told you about the lore, but I’ll try. The premise of the game is that the fans have transformed into their oshis’ (person you support) mascots. They are drawn towards the Idols and it’s the Idols job to ‘cure’ them by beating them senseless. The different enemies are supposed to be variations of the idols fan mascots. The Gators are Investigators which are the fan mascot of Amelia Watson who is Holomyths #1 detective. Before the update they were represented by the “Grimace Bubba” which was a blurssed drawing of Ame’s pet dog Bubba. The cats are IRyStocats (Aristocrats) the fan mascot of the Nephilim (Half Angel/Half Devil) IRyS. Some collabs that you should definitely try to get, as soon as you unlock the weapons, are: Rap Dog, Broken Dreams/ Stream of Tears. Rap Dog is the collab of Idol Song and X Potato. I believe you get X Potato from completing a stage as Korone (who is probably my second favorite character after Ame). Probably won’t read all this but love the vids. Have a good one.

If you want character recommendations, check out Roboco-san in the JP Gen 0 category. Not to spoil things too much, but her entire character gimmick is power leveling and it's fun to play a character that meshes with your natural inclinations.

The "coolest" hololive member you can play as in this game would probably be Korone. Vtubers have been popular in Japan for a decent amount of time at this point, but around 2 or 3 years ago Korone became a massive meme in the west and it sort of opened the floodgates, prompting that massive surge in new/English Vtubers.

I think Tom would like Sana with the orbiting planets letting you stand still, with all the radius attacks making standing still even easier.

heya tom, you should try out the one character that throws dice as their main weapon :D got a selection of crazy crit skills that rewards high crit builds, also if you hold down the activation button you lock in place the direction you where going in when you pushed the button allowing directional dependent weapons to be aimed somewhat

Hey Tom. There is a strafe key which will make your life a lot easier as it allows you to lock your attack in that direction. Meaning you can attack and walk in different directions 👍

I thoroughly enjoy watching this series, I'm looking forward to you playing level 2. Nanashi Mumei the Murder Owl can be fun to play, especially when you max out her normal attack.

With how much he talks about liking the skeletons, I'm shocked I haven't seen anyone mention this: The creator of this game is a professional animator, and he was hired by Gura (shark girl) and Calli (scythe girl) to make a music video for their song 'Q'. The skeletons in black coats with baseball bats are a direct reference to that music video.

Damn! Fubuki pretty strong with those dodges! Not gonna lie, the thumbnail called me instantly. The collab said NEW so this was probably your first time getting it!

I think you'd enjoy Fauna & Kronie Tom, they're the embodiments of mother nature and time respectively. Fauna has an absurd amount of healing and invincibility and is a very soft spoken person, Kronie has lots of odd abilities that are honestly kinda fun to play and is rather monotone. They both share your sense of humor in my opinion.

So based on your preferences for eventually being lazy or not caring too much about hits as we go late game, I suggest Ina (the purple tentacle girl) with the collabs of spider cooking + BL Book; Pyscho Axe + Lava Bucket and cooking board + holobombs. Just aim for any of that plus ina's innate skills and maybe knights milk or something that increases aoe size and you'll have a proper screen clear that can stand still and live mostly. Nurses horns help, other stuff is to taste, but if you roll for those items, you'll get a fun run. Oh also, since you installed the update: Glasses and waki whichi looks like a cup of water are xp multipliers, the water cup increases enemy spawn rate. Both will make it easier to get tons of upgrades and let you test out what you like.

Some of the characters have their names in reverse order. In Japan, the surname/family name comes first and their given name (what we call our first name) comes after. For example, the character you played in this video is called Shirakami Fubuki but just call her Fubuki as that’s her given name. This is the case for most of the characters in this game. Some, like Amelia Watson, are written using the order that we do though. Also, most of the characters’ names are plays on their character. “Shirakami” means something like “whiteout” and “Fubuki” means blizzard and her character is an arctic fox. Another example, Calliope Mori, the reaper rapper. “Mori” is a Japanese name but is also Latin for “to die” and “Calliope” is a Greek muse famed for her singing voice although it is pronounced differently. Also, it’s a steam organ.

The Nurse's Horns belong to Yuzuki Choco (AKA Choco-sensei), who is a very flirtatious demon (but apparently not a succubus, go figure) who used to work as a school nurse. The big fox boss is Fubuzilla, the giant monster version of the character you were playing. The 'detective pigs' are actually a combination of Amelia Watson's dog and the big-booty Grimace meme. Not even kidding.

I really appreciate you Tom to try to understand this all a little bit. Its a lot and the rabbit hole is sooooo deep. But what matters is that you enjoy the game. Can confirm the cutting board is a reference of being flat or how its called in Japanese "pettan/pettanko". Fubuki that you played is ours fox friend, aka not wife aka not a cat. A lot of people often thought she is a cat and a lot of viewers often asked her to marry them and Fubuki always says "No no, not wife, friend! okey?!" Thats why there is friendzone power in the game.

So for anyone who wants to play Fubuki. When your friend zone is available. Run through enemies intentionally. Your Kon Kon activates and you get a lot of free damage. That is the secret to her playstyle. Use your dodge offensively.

As someone who doesn’t know hololive but has played this game a LOT since a friend told him about it, I feel confident in saying that the secret to a successful run is go wide on weapons, then tall on weapons, then get your items unless there’s an item which is a MUST HAVE NOW. Fill up your top bar ASAP for good dps from the outset, then upgrade your weapons as much as you can without going crazy with the items. It stacks the odds in your favor of getting a “Super” item from the Holozon boxes, which are freaking amazing. The Super Gorilla Hand for example, does not sacrifice attack power for critical hit rate; it boosts your regular attack power AND the attack power of critical hits by 50%.👍 I’m confident in saying that each weapon gets two possible collabs, so that should help narrow down the searches, as of right now. Also, I’ve reached the point where the best XP boosting item isn’t the glasses, it’s the “Halu water” which ups the spawn rate.😅 Grab that and max it out early enough, when the enemies are so weak that a +30% boost in power doesn’t help them THAT much but you can ruthlessly farm the increased amount spawning in and you can level up pretty quickly from that.

@Tomothy Might help in a minor way with understanding, when people reference the Vtubers they typically use their primary name (Tom/Fubuki) where the game would give it to you in a more traditional order of family (Clarke/Shirakami) then primary. As others have said, Playing as Bae (Hakos Baelz) would be on brand, and she is exceptional with crit builds! I dread the day when you actually start to understand what is going on. You definitely did some crimes, and have earned the ire of Ame, Bubba, and the Investi-Gators.

Always max your skills first because they will help you more in the long run

Spider cooking + Lava bucket = The strongest collab in the game, period. 2nd (and it's variation) would be psycho axe + (BL book OR wamy water) - it depends on which type of character you're playing which makes each one stronger. 3rd is holo bomb + cutting board 4th depends on stage, character, playstyle, what you've been given, etc.
