Getting my Jonsered 2253 Chainsaw Ready - A Relative of the Husqvarna 550XP

Replacing the bar and chain on my Jonsered 2253 chainsaw. This saw is essentially a red Husqvarna 550XP. I have a soft spot for Jonsered chainsaws as my father and I used to run an outdoor power equipment dealership selling them. Started that business in 2009.
Jonsered had been owned by Husqvarna for quite some time, so a lot of saws between companies had similarities. In the case of the 2253 vs 550XP, you can see basically the red plastics and cosmetics are the differences. Husqvarna has a 7 degree angle on the top of the handle and chain brake, while Jonsered is straight like a Stihl.
I enjoy many makes / models of saws. But I have to say I really like this 2253 and my 550XP as they are light weight, fast, and still powerful. I'll continue this series with getting my next saws ready, and soon I'll be all set for hobbyist firewood production at our land.
Thanks for watching!

Back in the 1970s I and my uncle bought Jonsered saws I had a 52E and a 70E my uncle had a 66E and a 630E he also bought a 920E but traded it for the 630E dam nice saws and economical to run. That 920 was a beast and very heavy.

Just watched you with Chris In the Woodyard. Joined your channel. Electrolux of Sweden owned Jonsered, Husqvarna, and Pioneer Chainsaws, in the past. In 1981 I bought a Josered 49SP and a 910, 90cc. I loved the 910, it is still my favorite saw of all time and I have owned every good brand. Shindaiwa [Echo] is my second favorite. I used to like Husky's but when they turned Jonsered and Husky's into dime store saws and there is no service for them, I quit buying them.

There was a guy at the Paul Bunyon show with a 910 that had been ported and had an expantion chamber on it. That thing would run. If I could find someone that would do a good job on it I would have mine done. I still have my 910, It is 42 years old and still starts within 5 pulls, even if it sits 2 years. Never been tuned up, original plug and filter. Back in those days I was cutting at least a cord a day after my regular 8-4 job.\ @@BacktoBob1

I love it, we run a lot Jonsereds in our fleet. We run obviously the newer Huskies, but have an old Jonsered 910 with a 42" bar, a 2172 with a 28" bar, and one of our daily drivers is a 2255. Been running that strong as a professional saw in the tree industry since 2016 and it never quits. Easily one of our most reliable saws even though it's technically not a "pro saw".

Got an ol 670 Champ from back in the mid 90’s and still use it today. It’s an awesome still an awesome saw. Had a 2051 Turbo, one of Jonsered first turbo saws as well. Used both of them to cut timber.

@@BacktoBob1 Mmmmm....don't remember? I really liked Jonsered! Their saws always ran great! The 670 is my 'novelty' saw now. It's hard to find parts for so I use it to drop a few firewood trees from time to time. And just read my comment from yesterday, I promise I was sober!! LOL!!! Looking forward to more content!

Good trick for your bar oil jug. Poke a hole in foil seal with scrench helps contol oil flow to fill saws.

I've become a fan of Stihl oil recently. I was down to my past couple jugs, started calling around and found it cheaper at a Stihl dealer than TSC in our area. Odd, but I bought a few cases.

I have an elecrtric Husky, and use gas Stihl saws. I do find the Husky chain tensioner a little frustrating.
@chadrogers4635
@chadrogers4635 4 ай бұрын
You always lift the tip of the bar and keep it up when tensioning the chain, and when tensioned correctly you should be able to lift up on the chain and see three of the links. That is a primer bulb, cause it primes the carburetor. And the manufacturers and mechanics even call them a primmer bulb. Once it is started take it off of high idle and let it idle. When the motor is warmed up you don't put it in choke or fast idle. It's warmed up start it in the run position, or you can flood it.
@BacktoBob1
@BacktoBob1 4 ай бұрын
That is not a primer, it’s an air purge. It takes fuel to and through the carburetor and back into the fuel tank. An old style primer bulb for example just dumps fuel into the carb or air filter. This is different and you can’t flood it by doing that too much. Hot start you absolutely can use the fast idle setting and it is recommended by Husqvarna and any competent saw tech. Especially the 550 and 562 style because people would try to hit start them at idle, get angry, then choke it and game over it’s flooded. I’m factory trained in Husqvarna saws so I know a thing or two. :) Good point on the saw bar lifting the tip before tightening everything back up.

@@BacktoBob1 if what you're saying is true then all the small engines have air purgers. But again like I said even the manufacturers of chainsaws, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and ect. like Stihl, Husqvarna, Makita, and ect. are wrong cause they call them primer bulbs. Just like the mechanics that works on them. Or the fact that if you look up the part on line on the company that makes them they call them primer bulbs. So who's wrong. So since your the only one saying they are air purgers I'll say it again your wrong. Especially since you don't even know that much about starting them without keeping them in high idle with the chain brake on or how to tension the chain properly. Face it you don't know what your talking about and you've told many people that came in your repair shop the wrong thing. This is the thing that's wrong with anyone being able to make videos and putting them on social media platforms, they don't look up the info and think that what they are calling or saying is 100% correct when it's not. Face it if you have been told you're wrong and that person has told you exactly why and that it can be proven face the facts that you put out wrong info and need to correct it. And quit trying to blow smoke up people's buts with the wrong info, cause it's going to make they look like an idiot when they go to a mechanic and they say exactly what you said. You will loose followers from giving out the wrong info and people will start using your videos for what not to do or listen to.

Really, that long with the brake on? I know with my 461, I let it warm up at idle so I don't kill the clutch faster..

Mainly because I hadn’t run the saw in 6 months. Normally I don’t let it run that long on fast idle, but I also wanted to emphasize using the chain brake from a safety standpoint.
