We plant our tomatoes a little closer together than is recommended too.We also put the cages around them as soon as we put them in the ground. They always turn out fine every year!

Your presentation is always so soothing. I got my garden almost all planted and sowed. I'm 67 so I have to do what I can each day. Then rest, let my aching body recoup. But I love it like you do.

I raised my tomatoes from seed this year, they were beautiful when I put them out, but after all the rain they don't look good, I'm hoping they'll straighten up now that the sun is shining. Your plants look beautiful.

It’s such a blessing to see Casey able to do this full-time now. I know when he worked outside of the house he did that full-time and this full-time, how great he and you can work together each day without the extra stress of a outside job. Thanks for the video, it is such a blessing to us.

50 plants for a family of 2…see folks, it takes a lot of tomatoes for canning all we need. I buy tomatoes from the Amash, as in 7 plus bushel plus what I grow here on my little plot and it freaks people out. But I cook from scratch and I just can’t eat canned tomatoes from the store because to me it tastes tinny. Thanks Mary for validating the need for tomatoes…lots and lots of tomatoes🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

I know for my husband and myself we plant as many as we can possible and I still have to buy more.. however I make all my pasta sauce, canned diced tomatoes, salsa, ketchup, bbq sauce etc… people have no idea how much it takes when you are making almost everything from scratch

We are putting our tomatoes on a cattle panel this year. My cages get so tippy. I am going to use my old cages for my hatch pepper plants. I want to can some this year (peppers), they add a nice flavor to recipes. 😊

Luke at Migardener calls it high density gardening. Just my style! The plants shade the ground so not many weeds!

Can’t wait for the canning videos. I’ve never seen the process before and I know I could save lots of money especially in ketchup (my husband puts it on everything!) we buy hunts only because no corn syrup, etc all natural

Beautiful garden, Mary. I am curious to know when you started your seeds. I think I'm going to have to change things up for next year. And so I'm just trying to get a little more educated.

Your plants are beautiful. I am growing tomatoes by seed and started them in my greenhouse. They are not near as big as yours, but we live in Idaho and it is beginning to warm up real good. So I'm sure they will grow quickly. I have over 100, but , that is because I want to try and sell them for a few dollars. One plant is $5.00 , so we want to help others and make a little money on the side...God bless you both....Sherri-Payette Idaho

Mary. I enjoy your videos, hopefully our paths will cross in our journey! What do you find to be effective to keep deer and other critters out of your garden. We use a net, our first time with this method.

I always add a tomato stake or a sharpened stick to place thru the cages because the storms blow over the cages when the tomatoes get big. A cattle panel between t-posts would be even stronger. I love this phase of gardening too. About July I get overwhelmed with heat & weeds.

I do as well because my tomato plants can get heavy with fruit and bend over the cages…or a storm comes through and twists them like a pretzel. I’m overwhelmed with heat year round but fresh is best in our house so sweat is part of the process.

We have renegade deer that simply love to eat everything green🤨. So I stopped. Just left with the hope of planting, and watching others succeed🤷🏻‍♀️. Nice!

I’m new to gardening and I don’t have parents or grandparents to teach me so I’m out here winning it and floundering. Im trying to do organic gardening. How do you fertilize? Do you out anything down with your new plants? How often do you fertilize?
@TheRoseHomestead
@TheRoseHomestead Ай бұрын
We use compost. Throughout the years we have cleaned the chicken coops and added organic matter to several different compost piles. When they aren't so "hot" anymore, we start using them as fertilizer on the garden. These tomatoes got a small amount around the perimeter of the plants. It has worked really well for us. We only fertilize again if the plants look kind of sad and droopy.
