I play as Great Qing in the 1.2 beta of Victoria 3 and attempt to industrialize the economy while also seeking recognition as a great power.

This was a good run because, by the end, one was the goal and it had been achieved. But by taking in more taxes you could've maybe had 10x your actual gdp of 400-500m. There are people who made runs with china and, by expanding pretty easily into east asia they reached over 10b gdp

Thanks. I had a lot of radicals so I kept taxes low mostly to prevent getting even more civil wars.

The one thing that could be improved on in this playthrough is early on you should have been using state edicts more. Having high authority is good, but you could also have sped up your construction quite a bit, and could have solved some infrastructure problems temporarily to improve market access to a few states, as you probably know. Besides that, a great playthrough for a very difficult nation. This latest update really made the game feel more dynamic and mixes things up a lot more in my opinion. I still think they need to add more options for supporting Allies and transferring states to subjects, and add more options for diplomatic deals in general, but the game is otherwise in a great state compared to release. After taking a break for a few months, I've been loving learning the game again. Thanks for the informative video, and good commentary!

After trying out China myself, I see why you kept the Authority. Its much better to get the laws passed fast than spending it on individual states. I stand corrected

I’m glad you enjoyed! I keep forgetting to use state edicts, thanks for the tip.

@@CedarGamesStrategy Idk if youre up for the task, but playing China and choosing to fight the Opium epidemic against the British might be a fun, if not difficult, playthrough, if its even possible. Would love to see how you handle the scenario. Best of luck buddy

With how early the event fires and the current war system I feel that it would be pretty much random luck / exploits that would be necessary to win, there’s not nearly enough time to get better production methods for the army, but idk, I haven’t tried it yet. Edit : I just gave it a try and its actually not as bad as I thought.

Great Video has always! But the UI is a bit small for phone watchers I haven’t checked how it looks on PC but it just little hard to see. But on the other hand has said before always great content!

I realized that when I was editing but by then it was too late to fix it. If I do another Victoria 3 video I’ll try to remember to increase the UI scaling setting.

GDP took a nosedive when you switched logging camps to sawmills because a bunch of workers got fired all at once and their replacements didn't get hired quick I think. It's like a domino effect

Ah, that makes sense. I was thinking “I’m making more wood now, how do I have less GDP?” but forgot about the employment changes.

I would have lost if anyone naval invaded me, I had mobilized 100% of my army and conscripts to the frontline and had absolutely no reserves to defend the coastline.

Hey, is the AI any better from an economical pov in 1.2? I haven't played 1.2 or 1.1, only vanilla, and the AI was atrocious... horrible... In my Italy run, I ended up with like 5 billion GDP in 1936, and the 2nd best was France with like....700 millions... Any noticeable changes towards the AI's ineptitude regarding economy? Thank you.

I haven’t played much of the final 1.2 release, most of my experience is from the open beta. I haven’t done any specific testing or direct comparisons so its hard to give a concrete answer, however, from my experience I feel like the frequent revolutions the AI suffered from have been reduced (still happens though). I’ve not once seen the AI make it into the billions, but that could be because I’ve not yet played past 1920 as it gets too slow in the late game for me.
