Thanks for taking us along. The last time I rode in a Country Squire was 1977. My parents had a 1968 Country Squire (the front-end of which looks like the full-size Fords you have in your driveway) that we bought used in 1972. It had the 6.4 liter (390 cu.in.) FE engine and that thing would fly. Dad used it to pull our 22' day cruiser and we didn't know it was back there. He traded that Country Squire for a 1974 Chevrolet Impala with a 400 small-block which we had to replace. That Ford could do anything. GREAT VIDEO!

It reminds me of the wonderful road trip I did from Tiffin, Ohio to Grand Rapids, Michigan, all the way across to San Francisco in my 1977 Mercury Colony Park. Hey Tony. Another great video. And yes, the light angle plays a lot on the interior parts. Those interior colors on the door and trim panels and even seats had an almost semi-metallic sheen to them in those years. The extra glitz and glamour of the disco era. 😎

None of the green interior pieces will ever match perfectly and it didn't from the factory, either. It looks great. My dad's retirement present for himself was special ordering a 1977 LTD Landau 4 door. It had a 400 and he was used to a 390, but was still plenty fast, smooth and dead reliable until he traded it at about 110K miles on a new "85 Crown Victoria wagon.

@@tonyscarcare5657 The 400 is an excellent engine with a lot of torque. It didn't have the soft crank issue of the 351m that would make main bearings go noisy at 70K miles even tho they would still run well past 100k miles.

When I had my Ford Country Squire wagon back in the 90's, i too had the 400 ci V8 but I took the advice of the service manager at my local engine and transmission shop who specialised in Ford engines new and rebuilt, when he said I'd be smart to install a dual exhaust system to the wagon! I thought about it for a couple of months and then, the same manager showed me a readout from a dyno test of a '75 Ford custom 500 which also was a retired police department pool vehicle, meaning not used for patrol but for administrative duties, anyway, the current owner install a custom dual exhaust system with high flow cats and increased the exhaust pipes from stock to 2.5" from the manifolds all the way back until the exits on either rear exits. Nothing flashy or loud but performance high flow mufflers were also included, sorry I made this message way too long hahaha 😆 Long story short, just upgrading the exhaust system had a gain of 23 hp over the stock exhaust dyno test! That's a great boost of hp and torque was up by 11% nearly matching the percentage of hp gain. The owner also reported an increase in mpg from around 17 mpg on the highway to 19 and sometimes 21 mpg so another good gain! Anyway when I did this to my wagon, woe what a noticeable difference in driveability and overall performance increase! I agree the 400 V8 was a good engine and produced adequate power especially considering pulling a huge wagon around, however after the exhaust system the 400 V8 not only sounded stronger and slightly more aggressive, it was obvious from the start the engine was working much easier and it was probably one of the best aftermarket installation I've ever done on any car I've owned! Well worth the cost of the system which was a Flowmaster system except the mufflers were from Borla Just a thought that may help that 400 V8 breath, run and last longer? Take care and I really enjoy your upgrade videos in the wagon it brings back very fond memories 😊 unfortunately i was living in California at the time and just mentioning cat removal would get you kicked out of the shop so no choice but to install new high flow cats but great to see you got rid of tge cats!

My 1974 Country Squire has a 400 in it like yours does, and I think it has plenty of power! I'm working on getting it to run better. The whole fuel system needs to be run through. I sourced a fuel tank for it at a salvage yard, and a friend of mine is bringing it back from Arizona for me. My wagon keeps showing rusty fuel in the clear fuel filter. I'm also working on a sending unit for it, also. The one in my wagon either needs to be rebuilt, or it's got a bad ground. I can't find a NOS one or a good used one. This video was helpful because I could see what the fuel tank looks like when it's been dropped and off the car...as I don’t have a lift.

Tony, in looking at your wagon makes me realize how little Ford changed some of the body and interior panels from 1977 onwards. Both my 1987 and 1991 Crown Victoria wagons ( both are 8 passenger models ) have similar parts or identical in some cases as your 1977. Neither of mine are Country Squire models and similar in color - Sand Beige for the 1987 and Pastel Alabaster for the 1991. My 1991 I take to local car shows and is always a hit due to the scarcity of wagons out here. The kids always are amazed at the two way door gate which is a fine piece of automotive engineering. When I bought my 1991 in 2001 in New Hampshire I could not believe how clean the car was both inside and outside. The previous owner took it to Florida every winter so it never saw the salt. I had a complete restoration done on it by Bundy Motors in Tolland, Ct. in 2020 and it has only 14,000.0 miles on it since the rebuild and I do not drive it in the winter. My 1987 is my winter wagon with 248,000.0 miles on it since I bought it in June of 1988 with 18,000.0 miles on it. Good luck at your Dearborn show.

Overall everything looks amazing. I have to say that the color match is a tiny bit lighter than the original/other parts but honestly to 99.9 percent of the people they will never notice it. For what you paid, it looks amazing. And the exhaust came out great! I don't know why so many owners of these older cars put these retarded racing mufflers on their vehicles. I can't tell you how many KZfaq videos i watch that have these 1970's cars for sale they installed aftermarket noisy mufflers. Why would they think that's cool??? A luxury car isn't supposed to sound like a muscle car. So i'm glad you put walkers on the wagon to bring it back to stock as much as possible. Our 1978 Ford Country Squire Wagon had the optional 400 Ci motor because i dad thought we might want to pull a boat and that engine was plenty powerful. Everyone is like, " i have to have the 460 CI". No you don't. The 400 is plenty powerful as you demonstrated in the driving portion of the video.

that '89 TC in Ohio w/fender skirts? looks bad, but looks like a nice car. I want one with a moonroof. Your wagon is looking great. Too bad you couldn't make it to All Ford Nationals this past weekend, it was a great weekend.

Thank you! I went out there several years in a row back 20 years ago. My black 86 F150 took first in class, and the Green 68 XL took fist in class twice. It's simply too far to go for me. I never did it in less than 12 hours one way. I wouldn't buy a Town Car without a moonroof either.

That is a very clean wagon. I have memories of riding around in the late 70s/early 80s in a yellow 1977 Ford Wagon with the 400, as well as a 1967 Country Squire with the 390. Neither had a problem moving along in traffic and were comfortable to boot. I like the green dye work. It might look more of a match in your eyes if you hit applicable areas with a Meguiars leather/vinyl polish or the like. Just a thought. Keep up the nice work...

Hi, Tony. The color match of the trim and jump seats is great. I understand that the trim pieces are painted, but with the jump seats, were they dyed or sprayed with paint like the trim? If they were painted, wouldn't the paint crack with use?
@tonyscarcare5657
@tonyscarcare5657 Ай бұрын
The seats are sprayed with the exact same dye as all the trim. This stuff has come so far over the years. It could, of course, be scratched off, but normal careful use will be fine. No one will be sitting back there anyway unless simply photo opps.

It's looking good, Tony! I'm partial to green, so I am a bit biased. It's a beautiful survivor, for sure. Is this Jade green a rare color, as in only a few hundred ordered this way? Also, another querie, did Ford paint the whole car, then put the woodgrain applique on it?
@tonyscarcare5657
@tonyscarcare5657 Ай бұрын
I'm not sure the interior color was all that rare, but the car is one of only 880 1977 Country Squires with this exterior color and interior trim combination out of 50,774 according to the Marti Report. I believe it would have all been painted before the wood vinyl was applied.
@MarkB.-mo3lz

@tonyscarcare5657 I'd consider that fairly rare. And thanks for answering my query as I often wondered what may be under the woodgrain vinyl.

I was thinking that maybe the ford Ltd didn't have hydroboost when the lincolns did and I was also thinking that maybe that would make a difference in the brake calipers from a Ford to a lincoln's caliper because rockauto has the calipers for a continental
