You'll get cleaner cuts with an air-assist nozzle. Makes a night and day difference in the browning around the cut lines. But the edges of all wood that is cut with a laser is going to be brown because you are burning the wood to cut through. There's no way around that unless you use a CNC router.

@@rogerryden1962 Thanks for the input. I understand about material waste and the annoyance of it. I looked into creating a strength/speed chart for lasers in the past. I don't know the name but it uses about 3in. sq. piece of material and burns at 0-100% speed and 0-100% strength in grids. Or at least mine was 3 in. This way I can create a little file cabinet of materials I have used and have a reference guide if I wanted to burn/engrave to a certain depth or level. Perhaps that may help you as well?

I’m really surprised that Lightburn software does remember the settings of each project when saved. On my vinyl cutter software and on my plasma cam software the software will remember the settings of each project when I save them. When I want to create a old project I just open up the project and the settings are all there. I just bought this ORTUR laser master 2 pro and have not used it yet and have not played around with the Lightburn software yet, still working on finishing up my small workshop. I love all the projects you did, I can’t wait to play around with my new laser toy. Thanks for the video.

I have seen DIY fume extractors with these smaller laser setups if you have access to a window. Essentially: A plastic bin or make a box that fits over the machine. Put in a vent mount. Attach a dryer or vent hose to the mount for about 2 feet. Connect an inline duct fan to the hose. A cheap one works fine, about $20 but the one I have is a variable speed for about $35. Connect another hose to the other side of the duct fan and put it out the window. You can put a block of wood in the window with a vent mount so you don't have to keep an open window. Now, this will NOT filter the fumes, but you should not be lasering vinyl or the like with this type of laser.

You can buy one of these and tubing. Build a box around your laser engraver with a hole for the tubing. Run the tubing out a window. www.amazon.com/TOPHORT-Inline-Variable-Controller-Ventilation/dp/B07VQZD8YJ/

Thank you. So originally they didn’t have that option. This would probably be the equivalent of the SF. If you plan to do more engravings than cutting, go with the SF. If you plan on cutting stuff out more often, go with the LF. Both are capable of doing both things, but each is better at what it’s designed for.

@ChrisPowellFSD
@ChrisPowellFSD 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it will. I just tested the new Ortur and did a short bit on it in my latest video. You just need to paint the glass or coat it with something it can burn through. Clear glass is too reflective. Then you can just remove the paint once its done.
@spydie
@spydie 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisPowellFSD It's not too reflective, it's transparent. so if you want to etch glass you need to paint it first then use lacquer thinner to remove the paint afterwards. If you don't believe me, put a shiny surface under the glass and then burn something. It will etch the bottom side of the glass but not the top side as the laser bounces off the shiny surface.

Will this be able to lightly etch designs onto 2mm thick stainless steel ?
@ChrisPowellFSD
@ChrisPowellFSD 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it will. It actually permanently discolors the surface of the stainless. You can’t scratch it off unless you sand the material off, but it doesn’t actually engrave into the surface and remove material like it does with wood.

Yup. You just need to play with the speed settings until you get it to where it will burn off the paint without burning the wood.

I was so excited about ordering my Ortur from your channel, but sorry to say the service(or lack of) I got from Ortur left me so dissatisfied I need to write about, I ordered my Laser pro on the 5th of April and 3 other items and even included express post(because I live in Australia) it was suppose to arrive on the 17th, I had no contact about my order by the 12th so I got in touch via email only not the get a reply, I went online (14th)and was able to chat with someone, who gave me tracking for all four item. Yes I have received 2 of my four items last week(date stamped the 14th) I then sent another email requesting about my other items and still havent got a response. In all my online transactions I have never felt so dissatisfied than now. I cant honselty say I have received service from Ortur.

Chris I really appreciate your videos, you've been a huge help but I've been through the ortur nightmare. Their products are junk. In one year I went through two laser heads and three motherboards. They make you jump through multiple hoops to get replacements for something that's under warranty and they also make you pay for shipping. I needed a new motherboard and couldnt pay the shipping so had it mail through the regular mail...it made it to my house 3 weeks later and was in a plane envelope, no static bag or packing material for protection. I'm sorry but they are junk. Youd be better of getting a K40 co2.
