Great to see you on KZfaq again. I watched your flip top miter saw video about a hundred times! I remember you asked your viewers for latch suggestions at the end. If you want, I can share my solution to that flip top issue. Regarding your 10 watt experience, I am struggling with buying a 10 watt diode or the new Atomstack 20 watt. This helped me in my research.

Yes if you want to be able to cut up to 8mm in ply for example then this is a really good option at a reasonable price when compared to CO2 lasers. All the best mate.

I've read, but haven't tried it yet, that you can cut better if you set the focus part way through the material, rather than on the top. I've only cut card with mine so far, and haven't done much of that yet, but even with 2mm greyboard I think it might work. I imagine it would be worth trying with thick wood.

There is still a lot of testing and tinkering ahead of me to get the best results. And still tons to learn as I class myself as a laser beginner

For the thicker materials (10 mm, etc.) I have seen instructions whereas you are actually setting the focal length closer to the material so that the focal point of the beam is about half depth of the material. So they are lowering the focal bar, and visually setting it so that the bottom of the bar is about about half way down from top of material. Hope that makes sense. I have watched the Ortur team as well as the Xtool team setting it in this manner for the thicker materials. :shrug:

If you are using the Ortur LM2 Pro, you dont need the interface board.. Only the 10W laser head connected directly to the same input plug, because it is already 24v.. The interface board is to use with the Ortur Lm2 (not the Pro) besause it is 12v and not 64bit .. the interface will give the extra juice to the 24v laser head.

Also, I cannot get the laser head to power up except for the fan running. I am completey lost. I am using lightburn software. I also have the laser master 3, which works great. Any ideas??

There's only one trouble with Ortur or Aufero machines when components get damaged or shorted, like my DC 24V/PWM Control Board which has a part somehow shorted or such, you just cannot find a catalog of spares or replacement parts, just a new laser module, why not the PWM control board?? I've searched sites like aliexpress who you have thought had been a haven for such parts or compatible, but nope!. So all I'm left with now is an expensive 10W module gathering dust!

@@CasualDIY I been this path in the past with the same machine. I'd be willing to pay for a replacement instead of going through it all again. Think I will strip out the Ortur M/B components and go with another controller instead. At least there's spares about when you need them.

Thanks for the info! I just got a LM3 10W and have been mostly engraving on and cutting thin basswood. Today I tried 3mm (1/8") plywood (not sure what kind but it has 2 finished sides and came from Lowes as a 4' x 8') but have yet to have success. My closest attempt was 80mm/min at 100% 2 passes + 100mm/min at 100% 1 pass. It did cut through but the wood was so charred and burned that it is unusable. I tried your setting just to see the result and 200mm at 100% at 1 pass barely scored the surface of the wood. I've already started 3 small fires today trying various settings. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Жыл бұрын
First question, have you set up the focal point of the laser head correctly? Check if the laser is not dirty ( where the laser is shooting ) quite often there will be a build up of dust. For cutting try 150mm per minute at 100% power. What software are you using?
@csganley

@@CasualDIY Thanks for responding to me. I have cleaned the lens a couple of times and again today. On some things, it seems to do a nice job, but I see people here on KZfaq cutting much cleaner and faster than I can. I'm not really sure if I've set up the focal point correctly. What does that mean? My laser has this little 'kickstand' and I use that to focus. I did a ramp test that I learned about from The Lousiana Hobby Guy and the kickstand seems to be the best focal point. I am using LightBurn, which I love! I have been talking to an ORTUR rep and she requested a video, so I made 2 for her. If you want to take look, please do. They're short. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLyPhLt9rZi1mps.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pa1lpN2HrODJl4U.html THANKS SO MUCH!

@@csganley the laser head seemed a bit too high, depending on the laser module to set up the focal point ( that's the distance between your laser and your work peace ) you will have an onboard retractable leg on the laser module, when it goes down it needs to touch your work piece. Or you will have an aluminium small bar that you need to place between your laser and work piece. I can see you are trying to cut plywood 4mm? Best results are always with air assist on. With plywood the results may differ widely on what type you are using. Some are very dense and hard which will mean you will have to do more passes to cut through. I now use plywood dedicated for laser cutting and I get far better results. Try pine wood for example and you will see how easy it will go through that compared to oak for example which is much harder and denser wood. Sometimes it does take a while to find the best settings. I use LaserGRBL as its free and super simple to set up. Personally I had worse results with Lightburn but that's down to my lack of knowledge how to set up all the parameters on it.

@@CasualDIY Thanks for getting back to me. I did add a grate for cutting and I have been using air assist. The wood is from Home Depot and Lowes and I'm not sure what type it is. Now they mostly have birch in stock. I saw where some people love birch for lasering and some don't. I did not see pine in the thicker sheets at either of our stores and I don't know of a smaller lumber store near me. I have several types of wood ranging from 3 - 5mm or about 1/8th inch and some does seem pretty hard and dense. Ortur is sending a new laser. They had me try several different things and it is off-center, so hopefully, that will help. It can cut through the thicker (3-5mm) but there is so much charring, it doesn't look nice. It does a nice job on basswood (2mm) - 400 90% 1 pass. I occasionally have to cut through 1 or 2 sections - maybe a hard spot in the wood. Thanks and I appreciate your helpful videos!

Maybe your on/off button is stuck? When I plug the machine to the mains the laser does not switch itself on. I need to press and hold the on button ( making sure the emergency button is not engaged ). Then the machine turns on and the modules ventilator. However the laser beam only turns on when prompted by the software.

@CasualDIY Жыл бұрын
It all depends on the plywood. A hardwood ply will be harder to cut, than some low quality one. Same as it will cut through pine board with greater thickness than dense oak for example. You can now buy plywood that is dedicated for laser cutting. It's not as dense and hard.
