The Patient Story

Күн бұрын

Ashley had recently graduated college and moved to Arizona to start her career as a teacher. About a month after moving, she had a grand mal seizure out of nowhere. She was taken to the hospital where they ran tests including MRIs and CT scans. Doctors then discovered a large mass in her left temporal lobe which was later determined via biopsy to be a brain tumor.
Prior to the seizure, Ashley did not have any other symptoms or health issues. Since her diagnosis, she's had two recurrences and 3 brain surgeries to try and remove the tumor.
In this story, she shares how she experienced memory deficits, how she's had to adjust to a new way of life and how despite the obstacles she's faced, she's strived to stay positive and hopeful!

Hey Ashley I just finished watching this video and it hit me. I, too, was diagnosed this august 2023 with a stage 3 oligodendroglioma. It all started in July when I had a seizure, and we ended up in the hospital and they took a CT scan and they found a mass growing in my left frontal lobe. This past few months have been the scariest of my life 😢. I will start temodar this week and I’m so scared of taking that pill. I wouldn’t wish brain cancer on anyone. Its nice to hear a story of a person being through the same journey. I wish the best on you, and your gorgeous son 🤗.

I agree, I was happy in my job for six years despite mornings being rough and lots of nausea and afternoon vomiting issues , I was given an MRI looking for possible MS but incidentally found a tumor , I have had no biopsy , they won't do one because they said that because of the shape and size of my tumor they think it's benign so I am on watch and wait program for a year. The tumor was found in December but no one called me with results so I assumed everything was ok with respect to MS so then two months later while at my doctors office I just decided to ask him " hey I had an MRI in December before Xmas ordered by an online doctor service they never called me back would you mind telling me how that MRI went cause I am having so many short term memory issues and accidents falling down and losing balance and still so sick to my stomach as if I were pregnant mornings are hell", My doctor looked to see if he received a copy of that report and he said to me " omg you have a brain tumor, but don't worry they are saying it's not to large and it's likely benign maybe a harmless Meningioma or Schwannoma is what their report says. He then said we will repeat the MRI in December or January 2024. I forgot my point so I had to come back to edit my comment. I was fired from my six year position as soon as I disclosed about my tumor, even though people say to me they can't legally do that to you, well they can and they did because it's not like they are ever going to admit that is why they let me go.

God bless 🙏🏼 I had the same type of seizure and found I had a brain tumor on my left frontal lobe August 2021. I had brain surgery to remove what they could it was a grade II oligodendroglioma. I opted for radiation & chemotherapy since it was so large and could grow back without it. I finished chemotherapy this April. I do have memory issues and especially short term. Especially switching my words and I’m stuck with a right hand tremor. Your story reminds me so much of myself I’m literally crying. 😔 my symptoms were years of sharp shooting headaches and I brushed it off. I’ve just gone back to work in the medical field and finding it so hard 😢. Keep going never give up. Your story is inspiring ❤️🙏🏼

Ashley, I admire positivity. I also had a grand mal seizure in 2016, which led me to having stage two brain cancer as well. I also did on my steroids I was in the hospital a week. And had my whole body scan so they can make sure it started in the brain and didn’t come from somewhere else so I did steroids and I also did chemotherapy with radiation the same procedure you went then I had my brain surgery in July 2016. My neurologist feels I can go every year now for my MRI but I choose to have one every six months because of the fear of the brain cancer coming back so far it’s staying stable but I also had to have him three years of maintenance Chemo where I would take. The timid are the first day of the month for a week right now it’s just monitoring that but if it wasn’t for that grand mal seizure I don’t know what would’ve happened? Your story sounds just like mine. I had to learn how to walk, hold a spoon feed myself. I did rehab in the hospital for a month. I had to learn how to speak. I still have memory loss to this day. Want to say I hate it when you want to say Coke but it but the word won’t come out you know what you want to say, but it’s just not gonna happen so and I still have neuropathy, but I’m still here, and beating the odds I just pray to God that it never comes back a horrible thing to go through. I mean any cancer and then right after that in 2021. I was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer so I had to have three nose surgeries. I definitely do not want to have to have another brain surgery and where is I was cut my hair has never grown back and I just hate it. I hate having a spa spot on the right side of my head and it’s a big bald spot in my incision is huge, but anyways I’m just rattling on. I will keep you in my prayers and God be with you.🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️😊

I wouldn’t say it’s “easy” for me. I’ve just learned over the years that being positive can help my day to day life. Right now my chemo isn’t going how we thought… It is slowing the tumor growth but unfortunately it hasn’t stopped it. I’ve also been struggling with reading, writing and speech yet doing my best to work on it and make changes in my life to cope with it. I do feel blessed having my son and parents by my side. Although I am a single mom and went through a lot of issues with that (my ex husband is not in our lives). Then just 2 years ago I lost my little brother. I’m just telling you this because social media only has a little bit to share. I hope you are doing okay and I’m here if you would like to talk more. Life is short for every, some more than others… We all need to embrace it while we can.
