My check engine light has been on for the last 8 years. Somehow, I’m still alive.

Brother. If you unplug the battery for 10 minutes it’ll clear the ECM codes and they won’t show up at all until they pop back up later when you drive it

Hell Texas as long as your blinkers work, lights come on, your horn works, your flashers work, and your brakes work your good to go

My county only does visual safety inspection now. No more emissions, no more hooking up to the OBD2 port. They just make sure all the lights and brakes work. Love it lol

My Ranger I bought cheap passed the safety inspection after I fixed what needed to be fixed but was two things over the emissions so I applied for and was granted a waiver so check with your state before spending more than it's worth.

Nj allows 1 monitor not ready from 01 and up and 2 monitors not ready from 96-00. Technically you can erase the faults and put the vehicle thru a drive cycle and hope to set the ones that need to be ready in no particular order before the check engine light comes. If the person is lucky vehicle with pass inspection. And with the Vw/Audi you can force readiness with the vag com. which is what’s being used in this video. If a vehicle fails for catalytic converter fault it must pass that readiness monitor when testing second time around.

My engine light has been on since October of 2017. We could never find the cause. So now, every two years when I go through emissions, we have to reset the computer, drive normal for half a day to put new readings in, and then take it to motor vehicles before the light comes back on. Never failed a test yet, and I've never had any other problems with the car.

I literally passed inspection two years ago with my 2009 Mazda 3 having a vacuum leak. Cleared the code drove to the DMV and passed no problem 🤷🏼♂️

Most vehicles are tested at a state run emissions center. Unless your car runs clean enough to pass there is no way a inspector can pass you. Depending on the year of the your car, the check engine light can be illuminated and pass as long as it runs clean enough. California just passed a law requiring your car to have the original tuned engine control module. This can be determined by them accessing your data. Having a tuned ecm can cause your car to fail because the parameters have been reset. Alot of states have eliminated a safety inspection. They may test your gas cap also.
