Hi Hugh, when you're comparing the systems I think that the comparison with Hasselblad is not really fair. The price of a complete kit with the Hasselblad will be at least twice as in the Fuji GF system due to the very high prices of the lenses. The Fuji system is also able to manage a lot of lenses from other brands (including Hasselblad from the H system) and this is not the case with Hasselblad as the X2D doesn't have a shutter. I bought last month a Fuji GFX100 first generation, on EBay, from an old new stock, for less than half the list price. 2 years warranty, boxes and accessories included. I sold all my Sony A7RV system at the same time (with 7 lenses). I have no regret : image quality is in a complete other league. But, something strange occurs, many people around me are not able to see the differences which are obvious for me. Every body has his own limits in every parts of the life : music, food, etc... and the same here. So, if you're not able to see the differences it's easy to decide that all the constraints (weight, size, price, bad autofocus, etc...) are not acceptable for you. So, in this case, stay in the full frame world ! For me it's worth any penny, but that's me ! No regret, and surely never coming back ! PS: I'm not in street photography at all !

I remember being most wowed when reading Fujifilm’s online literature about the internal design of the removable viewfinder for the GFX 50S and then the GFX 100. I used both for awhile and was surprised the later bodies did not have the same viewfinder. I did not care for the buttons and control wheels on the GFX100 and, like you, found the menu system somewhat dated, but the GFX100 itself was a major achievement overall (see CineD’s two-part “Birth of a Camera”) with incredible image quality.

Wonderful video as always. You asked the keys Qs. Is it worth the U/G vs a used GFX 100s? Is the real comp with an SL2 with the best SL APO summicron glass? The sensor may not be as good but the package is very strong. I do wish Fuji wld make a GFX 100R with bigger grip - with the form and function of the 50R but with faster autofocus and image stabilisation - that is something I wld buy).

I carry this everywhere haha. Around 3 weeks using and loving it. The biggest difference compared to the 100s is the autofocus, which work well for me for the way I shoot (zone eye focus works so well for me), EVF, and the extra function button (already dialed down what to use which button). Other than that, go for the 100s. I used to carry r5 and the 28-70mm RF f2 around so weight is nothing hahahaha. Anyway, great video. Oh and a side note, if you don't mind some of the damn firmware bugs, get it... else wait for a couple of more firmwares :P

When a camera feels and operates as this one does, you quickly forget about the weight. Even though your muscles will remind you later. I never had the 28-70 but wanted it for my R3. I need the 55 1.7 first though. Did you sell your Canon and what do you like about the 100ii more?
@mohdnorazmil
@mohdnorazmil 7 ай бұрын
@@davetv8171 i was holding to my r5 because of the better autofocus but I personally felt that the gfx100ii perform better at low light compared to the r5, the eye and subject tracking work in almost pitch black condition for me. However, having said that, the accuracy is slightly less though but this is the first firmware.

You mentioned the ISO setting and ability to assign it to one of the top buttons. When ISO is set to a top button, is it a press & hold style (press function button while turning a dial) to change ISO, or is it a toggle switch? One of the biggest things I miss from my previous camera (Nikon) compared to GFX100s is the press button while turning dial settings. For my usage, on GFX100s toggling the front command dial between Aperture and ISO by pressing it is slower and more prone to mistakes than a button that only toggles the function while pressed. So trying to understand the GFX100ii setup. Thanks.

Thank you for this excellent review Hugh! I completely agree about the tilt-able EVF. I have had the original 50s with the tilt-able EVF adapter for about 5 years and thoroughly enjoy the user experience with this camera setup. I underestimated, by a lot, how much I would enjoy the flexibility of this EVF accessory (and kudos to Fujifilm for thinking outside the box in including this in the original generation of GFX bodies). When the 100s came out I thought I would sell my 50s to help fund the new camera purchase, but in the end I could not part with the 50s and got the 100s anyway with the hope that Fujifilm would return to their senses and introduce a smaller-than-original-GFX100 style body with the tilt-able EVF adapter sometime in the future...and here it is. I may now sell both of my older cameras in order to purchase of the 100 II, knowing that my EVF adapter can continue to be used with this new body (and substantially better EVF).

The GFX 100 II is the best medium format camera available today. I too prefer the SOOC colors that Hasselblad offers but I can get that in post. I bought a new GFX 100 II today after studying the Hasselblad X2D. The GFX is just a better camera.

I did own the X2D and sold it after 6 months to switch to a Fuji XH2S 😅 crazy I know. Does suit most of my shoots a little better and I do not need that high resolution. That said, I think Fuji started to improve built quality with the XH2S and also with the GFX100II now. In an ideal world, I would own the hasselblad for when I have more time and the GFX (and many more cameras) for when I need the quality and more speed. 😊 Most people would be fine with 18MP or so… 😊 from an emotional standpoint, a new Texas Leica (GFX100R) would be my dream camera

Hey Hugh. I had a hands on with the 100 Mk II last week. I gather that the newness in the sensor is in new ADC and DACs on each end of the sensor. From that, I'm taking that the actual sensor array is the same. No surprise there unless Fujifilm acquired their own Fab - unlikely. The biggest bargain around in the GFX system now is the original 50S - that gives you tiltable EVF capability, the best of all the GFXs ergonomics, dual batteries if you get it with the grip and all for stupid money pre-owned. No video, admittedly, but at the current used prices, who's complaining. I thought the new camera to be very nice but, actually, the stars of the new introductions are the TS lenses.

I like your style, train of thought, rational comparisons and depth of knowledge. This review is excellent and compelling. I've come from 6½ years of using a GFX50s exclusively where every one of my shots was taken with the camera on a tripod and now I have the GFX100 ll. I hope to have a feeling of being a bit more liberated because of the IBIS and AF tracking. Shooting with the camera on a monopod and handheld every now and then will help with that. However, I never seem to get my camera perfectly level when shooting handheld so I have to faff with the crop tool in post when I do. All I need to do now is set the camera up, and wow, it's complicated. Hopefully, it will be a set-and-forget process. I look forward to another 6½ years before I buy my next camera. Or maybe the iPhone 21 will do all I need or perhaps everything will be AI by then. Who knows.

I admit it: I grabbed the GFX100S after seeing those “Stephen Shore Mode” Nostalgic Negative images. They are the closest thing to Portra 800 on my RZ67. Stunning images with zero film futzing. I shoot Sony alongside Fuji so I have a high pain threshold for menu systems. Use the favorites menus. Load with the items you use. And never look back. Two years on I still love the images from the GFX100s. If you were on the fence, GFX100ii is your cue to jump, the 100s just got $1000 more affordable. BTW, 35mm lenses adapt beautifully to this machine. I use my Canon 135 f/2L and 24 TSE-ii with great results. The 8-15 fisheye zoom on the GFX is more fun than is legal in 49 states. Grab one while you can get them cheap!

My question is…Do you consider the Hasselblad lenses sharper than their Fujinon counterparts? Thanks!

I compared both the GFX 100 II with the X2D 100C. And find the GFX to be faster, better AF, and startup is almost instant compared to the X2D. Much prefer the GFX. The EVF alone is almost worth the cost of entry. And I don’t mean the tiltable EVF.

As a 20+ year architectural pro photographer who is fully invested into Leica with the Q2M, SL2 (adapting Canons 24mm TS lens) and M11, using the new Fuji 30mm native TS lens with this new 100II body has me thinking that the M11 might need to go in exchange for this combo. I only wish Leica would make a native 24mm TS lens for the SL camera as you are absolutely correct about the design, menus and joy of futz free use of all Leica cameras which ultimately led me to them. The cherry on top would be if Leica also introduced an articulating EVF and rear LCD to their SL lineup. I'll be ordering the Fuji camera and TS lens next week! Cheers.
