In a normal country, military would issue specifications for a weapons platform, private industry will work on a response, and reach out to DRDO for advice and technology to develop a response. Relying upon public sector to come up with solutions is completely useless. Even in the Soviet Union, the design bureaus were completely independent to come up with their own solutions to the military requirements. In USA, private industry is closely linked to the defense labs and there is stiff competition for the programs. In India, babus from one government organization keep on fighting with babus from another organization. In the meantime even the third rate powers are fielding effective drones.

Tapas was a technology demonstrator... and it still is. Adani was making drones for last 5 years... nobody asked him to set up for Indian program. But if now in emergency like insurgency across LOC it might work... late decision done by Indian Army. Also the Ghatak is a whole another level beast. First learn how drones are made and then ask the question.

Good Job INDIA TODAY!! DRDO and other defence manufacturing institutions have been lagging behind projects for decades surpassing all the time allocations, budgets and no accountability for people working there. Make more shows on these organisations who need to be held responsible for compromising national security for personal gains.

Who said Tapas has failed ? All R&D datas collected by Tapas will be in Data Bank and can be passed on to someone who will take it forward

The problem is the public sector. Relying on the public sector is totally useless. A proper military industrial complex would have the military giving feedback to the DRDRO and private Indian industries designing and manufacturing planes, tanks, guns, equipment per the military needs.

Tapas in not a failure 18hr flight time with 28k feet hight is on reality it's achieved but other drones mostly clame to be 24hr. With 35k feet but it's not achieved....so Tapas is a really success....we r repeating same thing like kaveri jet engine

In one way this latest emphasis on defense news in mainstream media is very welcome . Some degree of pressure is needed and if it is not going to come internally let it come through the public. Otherwise defense labs in India seem to have very little accountability.

I am sure in ghatak they will all kinds of stuff and then they will say that dry kaveri is not enough. IAF will reject it. Why doesn't someone just appoint a foreigner with regards to acquisition and absorption of tech / program development to the IAF. The current lot is not capable to working to develop a world class defence technology

The only thing the defence ministry should be responsible for is conducting quarterly, 6 monthly annual study/review and audit of our MI complex and Rand D eco system and ensuring that our ecosystems r the best in the world . Only this must be their mandate and nothing else. For spl projects of high importance have a Ministry for spl projects and give only that job to them. Also don’t have a common tech chief for different programs. How would u evaluate a person who is heading several critical projects and manages to deliver a few but fails in others ? Regular performance review would give weightage to the success and failures appropriately and come up with a composite score to evaluate performance . But in critical projects every single one matters. So composure scores won’t work. Every project needs a separate person responsible for it and that single project should be his or her responsibility. That’s y having a single person accountable for different projects across domains make no sense for critical mission mode projects.

The ADA needs to be allowed to carry it's job it was meant to and the DRDO should stick to it's speciality and this goes to shows the lack of administration at the defence ministry

Privatisation is only solution for inertia in government organisations. See Adani operated Hermis came to use within a year! Even MMRCA is delayed so much! Tejas is good but can’t replace Rafale.

To become a tech leader will take a long time. Other than US there is very little tech breakthrough in rest of the world. Rest just copy or steal US research. So better to be patient and consistent. It is important to give birth to an original idea first, tech research will follow. Drone was used by US first during gulf war. So roughly 30 years ago long endurance drone was already in existence. Indian research has very deep problems to say the least.

You talk as if you are privy to the inner circle of the decision-making persons. You have to make a video that somehow plays down the achievements of the government. Your job depends upon it.
