When I mentioned that "I like J-Pop a bit, for example I like Mizuki Nana", he answered with "No, that's not J-Pop, that's Anison (abbr. Anime Song)". Granted, I didn't do any polls or social research on that, but this might not be as clear-cut as you present it.

GHIBLI FILMS ARE UNDERRATED! They're some of the best filmmaking there is, period yet mainstream critics rarely talk about them, only a single Ghibli on an Oscar, compared to like 20 for Pixar, but still, when they give them a chance they are fair, however, in the anime community...they are ESPECIALLY underrated, they majority of self proclaimed anime fans are edgy teens who dissmiss them as boring kiddie fare. Like Digibro himself admits that he only recently realized how amazing most of them are. And all of this I mean for the popular ones like Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away, if we are talking about the less popular ones, or even worse those that outright flopped in the box office like My Neighbors The Yamadas, they are litterally some of the most underrated movies of all time.

Saaaaame. I also like my music edgy. It’s all in execution though. While the things I like do go towards the edgy side, edge is no guarantee of me liking something either. Nonuba hmmm that is tough to pin down exactly. If I had to try I think “trying way too hard to be dark” is a good starting point lol. And I know “way too hard” is subjective. Maybe even just “actively putting in effort to come off dark” may be closer. Not necessarily as a bad thing. Marilyn Manson is popularly considered edgey, because he makes the effort to be dark even though that ‘persona’ isn’t his default state-of-mind. The same can’t be said of something like tragedy and well done psychological horror where it’s dark just off of themes and subject matter, rather than shoving dark imagery in your face. That’s my attempt at a Ted Talk xD

Don't see what is wrong with this? People think that something that is older means it's better or needs to be more well liked/popular. And I for one like when the story can focus on other characters. Usually there are only a couple of main characters, a lot of the time only 2-4 are considered main, but the anime has 24 - 60 episodes at least, so if you don't focus on other characters and try to improve them, then why make the anime in the first place with such a long story and so many side characters?

Well, as far as I understand, what the author wanted to tell was that: Naruto moved on from Sakura (way before The Last actually) and in The Last, Naruto realizes what ‘love’ is, and how it isn’t the same as loving ramen. He then realizes that Hinata is actually very important to him. It’s not that he falls in love with Hinata because of the genjutsu, it’s that he REALIZES his love for her because of the genjutsu. According to one of the novels, (I think it was shikamaru hiden) Hinata and Naruto started hanging out a lot more after the war ended. So they had already been hanging out very often before The Last, it could be during this time that Naruto started falling in love with Hinata. Or it could be way before that, the author never specified the exact time Naruto fell in love with Hinata. I mean, even in the original Naruto series, Naruto had started liking Hinata (as a friend) when he saw her fight Neji. To him, Hinata wasn’t “the weird quiet girl that keeps watching me” anymore. He saw how dedicated and strong Hinata was (by strong I mean, mentally). And as someone commented, Sakura was sort of like a childhood crush for Naruto. He was never taught about the differences between friendship love, family love, or romantic love. And it is true that Naruto admired Sakura, as he thought she was very pretty and smart. However, as Naruto matures he realizes he never stood a chance/will never stand a chance with Sakura. During their whole goal of getting back Sasuke, I think Naruto saw Sakura’s love for Sasuke. He sees that her love for Sasuke wasn’t just a childish crush of “he’s so handsome and cool” it was more than that.

Tbh Akira was just plain boring to me, the characters felt like they did things purely so the plot could advance and their reactions (or lack thereof) really don't feel like any reactions humans could have. Dudes go from trying to kill each other to helping each other out in mere seconds for example. He knocks someones head off at the beginning of the movie and later goes on about a random stranger getting shot and nearly beating someone to death. Also the death of his girlfriend got completely ignored by everyone else? idk

I understand Joeys points, but I still think they could do some stuff to make it more like the games and make it less about the main characters while still appealing to a child audience. Like adding lore about legendaries, and why they’re legendary in the first place, teaching us about how Pokemon in the wild live, and in battles having trainer be more strategic and smart with the Pokemon they choose and the moves they use Having the turn base is stupid in an anime, but the super effective thing could be put in there subtly without ruining the action if done right. Pokemon having more than 4 moves is fine, but the lack of items to use is strange to me. The fact that they have a huge sprawling world to explore and don’t is annoying to me, and the main characters always being the focus in these enormous regions severely limits the possible stories they can tell. Also, letting them achieve goals every once in a while would be nice. Like let ash become a champion, then in a later series, he comes back to be challenged for his title by the new main character. Honestly, I know the anime can’t follow all the rules of the game, but I don’t think it should ignore them either. It’s definitely possible to make a good Pokemon anime while sticking to most of the rules and being interesting at the same time

Spirited Away was the very first anime movie I watched as a kid, and until now I love it. Also there's Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro. They all have that certain aesthetic I really like. So I guess it just depends upon a person's taste.

22:25 that's my tweet so I want to explain what I meant by saying this. I totally agree with you Joey about getting more opportunities as an overseas fan like you said in the video. However, for me nowadays anime is talking more about subjects that are common anywhere else but not in Japan... or it just feels too americanized. Like I miss specific vibe that anime has as it was one of the reasons i've fallen in love with it. Secondly, sometimes when I watch newer series I just feel like whole show is only about being mainstream (by that i mean targeting more towards overseas industry) and gaining money for studios. Of course that's not about every anime but, in some seasons, majority. Hope my intentions are now clear haha! Also keep going and love ya boi 👏🏻

yeah I agree and I was facepalming when he misunderstood what you were trying to say. It was beyond obvious to me. And yeah it is sad how some anime is becoming too generalized. Like some anime they don't even mention what country it takes place in. Or when an anime takes place in Japan but they kinda ignore the culture and just make it seem bland

I can't be assed to watch a half an hour video on how studio ghibli films are bad. Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Laputa Castle In The Sky, My neighbour totoro, Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, Whisper Of The Heart, From Up On Poppy Hill and Porco Rosso. These are the greatest animated films there are, there music is astounding, there visuals are brilliant and the plots and so strangely fantastic. I think this statement is just for views and anybody who agrees is wrong. This debate is black and white. No pixar or disney film will ever compete the perfection of Studio Ghibli films. Sorry for the rant just think this is a very wrong idea.

Lol, you (the people who agree with the tweet) may not like Ghibli but that actually doesn't matter. Ghibli's Spirited Away, My Neigbor Totoro, Grave of the fireflies and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind are all masterpieces that rivals Disney's best works in quality and in some ways actually even surpasses them. I could write an essay on why each of those movies are objectively good movies in regard to the technical aspects, the scripts, art and music. People need to understand just because they don't like something doesn't mean it's objectively "meh". Same goes for those that just because you like something doesn't mean it's actually objectively good. You can like stuff that is pretty mediocre of a variety of different reasons. They can resonate with you on a personal level because of emotional inputs you receive while watching, like nostalgia etc. There are for an example a lot of Marvel movies that I don't like because the humor in them doesn't resonate with me. So the marvel movies with a lot of focus on these jokes like Thor Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy are really hard to watch for me. That doesn't make them shit movies (they are no master pieces either though but they're not bad). Another example would be that I really love the One Piece anime as it makes me laugh and generally puts me in a good mood. That doesn't change the fact that 25% of the episodes are taken up by recaps, the animation consistency is awful, the characters are one dimensional and it's getting painfully clear that Oda is starting to reuse plot points (Dressrosa arc is pretty much a copy of the Alabasta arc). I love the series despite these flaws because of how it makes me feel while I'm watching but I would never say it is a masterpiece. Same could be said about the Star Wars OT if you would like another example (those three are of significant higher quality than One Piece though but still not masterpieces). Maybe I'm taking this to seriously and it's only to trigger a response from people. I guess I'm getting fed up with feeling based critics that refuses to actually think about why they like/dislike something.

I think you're 100% right about Ghibli films. How anyone can say they 'aren't all that' can't discern the difference between something they specifically don't particularly like versus something that IS great whether you like it or not.

Okay, I'm pretty sure the Dressrosa thing about the Baroque works/ Donquixote family was intentional and is supposed to be a clever fun little thing and does not affect or ruin the bigger picture, the plot focused on the conflict of Law and Doflamingo and the country. besides this, there aren't a single painful reusing of plot points. While One Piece isn't a masterpiece, better examples could've been provided. there are many things that could improve but, things are already just as fine for what One Piece is trying to be. the animation for One Piece has always been terrible with the B- animators they hire, it gets decent when the real animators work on it from time to time. that's why I would rather mainly read the manga instead of watching the anime. The thing is you like or dislike something because of either the quality which determines if it's objectively great which is most likely to be enjoyed by the majority or just how well it goes with your taste. it's indeed annoying to see a "critic" telling their audience something suck or is better than something before they have a real understanding.

@@kushkungvivo744 There are probably better examples than One Piece am sure but I took it as an example because I really love it but I'm still aware of it's flaws (which there are plenty) as I pointed out. I think it is a good enough example for what I'm trying to convey here.
