Welcome back explorers! I had an amazing time exploring this historic section of Baltimore. I drove many hours and it was worth it to bring you along on my experience of this place and in the next few videos I’ll be taking you to some amazing locations.
Sadly, this area seems to be forgotten by the city, it resembles a modern day ghost town and is nearly all but abandoned. Please enjoy the architecture, the histor, the hues and the views of this amazing city!
Thank you for joining me on my journeys, following in the adventures and sharing in the experience.
Stay safe, have fun & Never Stop

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CONSTRUCTED IN 1818, THIS OUTDOOR shopping district has seen many periods of decline, revival and decline again. At its peak of 64 stores, Old Town (also known as Gay Street) was a thriving retail area designed to increase commercial purpose in the surrounding area. The market transformed the area into a diverse, middle-class neighborhood, making it an ideal neighborhood for families and downtown workers with its proximity to the Inner Harbor of Baltimore.
After the post-war era pushed families to suburban areas, the population dwindled and Old Town became one of the poorest areas in Baltimore. With decreased customers, many of the shops were forced to close or adapt to changes.
After the Baltimore Riot of 1968, the City of Baltimore attempted to revamp the mall by turning the area into a pedestrian-only zone, renaming it Old Town Mall. The city spent well over $1,000,000 on the project, even adding a large fountain in the center and an art-deco clock tower at the entrance.
By the 1980s, the area had fallen back into its disarray due to poverty and unemployment in the surrounding area that the city failed to fix. Today, the mall has only one shop running and many of the other buildings are closed, abandoned, or completely destroyed.
There's still beauty in that old place. When you went around that big tree it was a fat man's squeeze. I probably couldn't get by it. 😁👍
Growing up in the 70's this was a beautiful area. My Uncle owned Third World barbershop. I would get my haircut as his shop then he would give me a dollar and I would walk down about a block and buy myself some potato wedges. Sad to see it like this now. :(
Damn, where have you been all this time? Your channel just now showed up as a suggested watch. I subscribe to so many that I am surprised your channel just now showed up. I love exploration video's. I watched all the Explore with us video's on You tube. The guy used to travel to remote areas around Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah with his daughters. He stopped exploring and now has murder mystery stuff about serial killers. I miss his older stuff but he had done so many that I guess it was time to settle down. Now I have you to explore with. I just discovered your channel and love it. I had to pull each one up and push the like button before I watched them. You deserve it for your efforts. I look forward to watching all your past and future video's. I loved the video at the wrecking yard. Cars are my true love and a day the junk yard is like a day at an amusement park for a child. Can't beat it.Take care and be safe out there.
It's like walking into an old ghost town from the 1800's but in modern day architecture. Love seeing the fine ornate details but so sad to see such abandonment. The beauty of nature as it reclaims this space is simply beautiful. Always fun walking with you 😉🤠🌲🍃
Definitely ghost town vibes. The city is actually beautiful and rich in history but a lot of it is so run down and littered with garbage.. sad to see really. I loved all the warm tones and colors of the city buildings & streets. Always appreciated my friend 🙃🫵🏻🍃
Wow! That opening shot of u walking reminded me of The Walking Dead. Cool yet creepy! Theres noooo way I would have a business in this vacant vicinity! Not even with an arsenal of weapons lol Beautiful abandonment and decay though! I had to laugh, the music reminded me of Charlies Angels theme song lol remember that show? The dancing meth head was a nice addition too 🤣😂 Great video Marlo and I wouldnt want to be there at night either as Im sure all the derelicts come to life! Have a great week my friend 💜
Hey Kim how are you, welcome to the slums, lol. This place, to me anyway was awesome to see.. sad too. Your dead on with the music.. I’m very familiar with that show, lol.. when editing this I was looking for that 70’s street, urban vibe. That cracked out woman was a straight up zombie.. she asked me if I could help her when i came out of that convenience store and I had to just keep it moving.. her eyes were dead.. tragic. Always appreciate you my friend and have an awesome week my friend ☺️😜💜
Thank you so much. Yes, this place (to me) is a great spot actually, so much history and it still struggles today and it’s a beautiful outdoor shopping area with what looks like at one time, a gorgeous courtyard area. The buildings are detailed and architectural of another time. This city really does have a lot to offer even though it’s so run down and slightly scary, lol.
Hi Sue. Ya, I know for sure the pawn shop is open and maybe one other store but out of 64 stores… it’s a literal ghost town in this section. Funny thing is, it’s actually gorgeous if you can see beyond the years of dereliction. Hate to say this but you will have to see, lol.. I don’t want to spill the beans on the many places I went to. Always appreciate the support my friend, have a great week.
