New shop cavyfishing.com/
I find some washed up materials to make a fishing net. I use this net to catch bait and it worked! We got bait fish and a giant prawn. I use the bait fish to try catch a bigger fish on a traditional hand line. Was not expecting to catch a fish like this. Defiantly the weirdest looking fishing I’ve seen.

The long eel like fishing is called a "Cutlass fish." They can grow up to 4' lengths and about 3"-4" diameter. They're usually dried like jerky and go great with beer!

Man strange how I've literally just saw a mate land one of them out here. We call them Ribbon Fish out here but they are also called cutlass, belt, frost and silver something haha. And you're right mate, their skin is used to make lures and jigs as it has the shiniest skin like a mirror. Best bait for kings and Spanish...pretty much anything as live bait. And they get HUGE mate!

I saw this on another NZ video Ollie Craig and he gave a good tip, never knew this as a bad thing but its not wise to burn diftwood. The reason not to burn driftwood is that when organics such as wood are burned in the presence of chlorides, dioxin is created in the flue gas. Dioxin is referred to as a persistent, bioaccumulating toxin, meaning it doesn’t decompose, and it builds up in the tissues of the organisms that ingest it. Specifically it can concentrate in mother’s milk. It has been associated with various cancers. Chemically, salt is sodium chloride, so salt-water driftwood is a big source of dioxin when burned. Just thought I'd share a little info:)

In NZ we call it a Frost fish, usually caught deep sea in 100-300m deep, often sent back down for wreckfish or swordfish baits though kiwis love to do what you just did and take them home and smoke them, apparently good in a fish pie. Keep up the awesome content Cavdog, can’t wait to see you casting a line with Briggsy again 👀👀👀👀

Epic cheers for the info dude, a sword fish would be psycho catch. Yeah a local fisherman said they sometimes come into the shallows when the waves are big around the new or full moons, but mostly catch them at night behind the reefs.

Cutlass Fish ( Walla-Walla ) - we catch them over here in Richards Bay South Africa during the night in the hundreds at a time. Their dorsal fin makes like a wave action - that's where the fish gets its name from ' Walla-Walla '. Many deep sea anglers also use them to trawl for what you cal the Mahi-Mahi - we here call it a Dorado or Dolphin Fish.

I havent actually caught or seen one before. A few of the locals here said they normally catch them behind the reef breakers here but sometimes catch them in rough seas at night time in this same spot, so must have just got lucky! Good old botany bay, so guessing your in Sydney? I lived in Manly a few years ago for a little bit, and fished around the cliffs at old mans hat. Only caught a few small king fish... I'm a fisherman before, and we have a prawn farm. Those fish, even the little ones can't be catched in a shallow area like that. Fishes guts don't burst out like that if they're fresh.
