I grew up fishing at my grandpa's house. I didn't grow up hunting. I totally appreciate fishing and providing food for the family. I'm 50 now and to do trekking through the woods hunting isnt bprobably in my future. I love seeing how you use what nature has provided you for substinance and making it a family event. The little ones you were catching were actually Sanddabs, they’re a smaller species of flounder. You can tell the difference between those and Rock Sole flounder because the Sanddabs have eyes on the right side of their head while Rock Sole have eyes on the left side.

Gabe Meyer in the northeast, we call summer flounder " fluke" they are bigger and have teeth. The smaller ones we call winter flounder with the mouth being smaller and have no teeth. The small ones we call sundial because they are more round. 3 different kind of flounder, but that small one she caught did infact look like only a baby.

dragon3831 The pacific flounder over here are completely different species than the eastern flounder/fluke you have. The small one she caught was about the average size for a Sanddab, they don’t get much bigger than that.

Interesting to see the different variety of fishing between the East Coast (Florida) and the Pacific Northwest when it comes to fish and other species. Florida Waters definitely have more variety and seem to be more bountiful but the Pacific Northwest has it's own unique species that are fun to catch and equally delicious! Love to see how your relationship with Silverstag knives have given you the opportunity to show-case the variety of fishing/crabbing and other fun stuff available in the Pacific Northwest! Probably never would have happened without your partnership with Silverstag knives. I think it adds a diverse and unique perspective to your channel. It all looks like fun and can't wait to see more videos from your visit out West!

I have never commented here but thought I should today as an appreciation for Rob and Sarah! I found your channel few years ago when I searched “how to fillet a fish”. I absolutely loved the content and subscribed immediately. Ever since then i go through phases of binge watching your videos time to time. The interesting thing is that I am a non meat eater, but I don’t have an issue with people who eat meat (my husband eats meat too). Hi Rob and Sarah, i couldn't believe you were fishing for flounder!!! Flounder is my favorite fish!! When i go to my favorite Greek Restaurant I order Stuffed Flounder with a crabmeat stuffing. Only the crabmeat stuffing is made with garlic bread croutons and a cream cheese and chedder. Its fantastic!!!! And its served with a cream dill bechamel sauce!!! Nope,not the same,Halibut is the biggests Flatfish,can grow up to more than 2 m long and easy 100 kg or more heavy.Flatties are splitted in different parts oft the Family,Flounder is not only Flounder,in Europe are the well loved Scholle and Seezunge and a Flunder don't know the english names.Scholle can grown up to 50 cm and they are typicaly nearlly round with some red Points on the upperside,Google tells me maybee plaice???? Google tells as well, that my german Seezunge is maybee sole???The Plaicetime is at germany's northcoast the very loved one.We made no filet out oft the fish,only clean up,scale it and roasted in the pan,a lot of Butter and together with diced bacon.Served with only saltet or sliced fried potatos.Delicious.On Plate,two forks and pull the meat from the bones.The Sole and the european Flunder are very tasty,their meat is tender than the plaice.But the north named the time to eat this fish Schollenzeit - Plaiceseason.
