Thanks to my friends over at East Ridge Bicycles, I put in a handful of rides on an e-bike - the Giant Trance E+... and it was AWESOME! If you've ever wondered if you might enjoy a motor-assisted bike I'd encourage you to check out the Giant Trance E+. It's a kick in the pants. It's not for everyone, but it sure can be good fun if you need a little extra motivation to get out and peddle, or if you want to hang with your friends without feeling like your dying. The Giant Trance E+ has a lot to offer if you like to ride dirt! Share your comments on e-bikes in the comments below and be sure to SMASH that thumbs up button and SUBSCRIBE if you enjoy this content.
Note: E-bikes are known in the cycling community to be addicting and may lead to experiencing uncontrollable enthusiasm on climbs, friends that no longer want to ride with you, and a decline in overall cardio fitness. Enjoy responsibly.

I bought rhe Trance E+2 and I have to say that I am completely blown away by it. After 30 years of riding non-e bikes, I decided to see what all the hype is about. Went to my bike shop and test rode the rig. Well I took the bike home that very day! After 8 months of riding it almost daily, I am still impressed with it. Yes, the extra weight feels a little strange at first, but after learning to work the bike it becomes second nature. In fact this extends my riding range tremendously. The extra weight actually lets the bike climb much better on steeps where I would have to push my non-e bike because of wheel spin or front end lift. On the downhills, the bike feels super planted and stable and the extra weight helps there. There is a slght disadvantage on the super tight trails but I had to learn to work the bike and it is not an issue anymore. I personally leave my controller in automatic mode and let the sensors take the guesswork out of which assist level to use. I love this ride and have put over 2500km. on it so far.

What Dirk is doing is riding 2 or 3 times more than he would with a non e bike. Instead of thinking about fitness and super slow motion hill climbing just go out and hammer it. An e bike makes you want to ride at every opportunity instead of avoiding cycling. E bike haters can kiss my ass. They don't see my ass for more than a minute though lol 😅

The best thing about having an ebike is being able to climb those hills that would normally leave me wasted and not looking forward to the next ride, oh and the downhills being much more planted and stable, oh and being able to do a 40 miles loop and then ride again the next day, oh and losing weight and getting fitter from all the riding. Yes I kept my old non electric bike in the belief that I would get fit enough to go back to it, it’s been hanging on my garage wall for two years now, as I enjoy the ebike so much more

I just got an ebike and my days of riding a normal bike are over. I use to mounatinbike and getting tired--which can happen quickly--made riding misrable.Plus I stay on PAS 3 and pedal--lightly to medium most of the time--so you get a longer lighter more cardio worlout and enjoy it much better.I throttle up some hills because you can cool off while doing it.Plus--I did a mountain bike trail backwards the other day and no way i could have pedaled it--with the ebike it was easy and enjoyable. Also i have a fat tire ebike and you can go over very rough terrain--tall grass--gravel roads--uphill trails that you would normally almost have to walk on a pedal bike. The batteries are also getting better--I just got mine and it has a 750 bafang rear hub and a 48v 14 ah battery and I did 60 miles with light peddling and it only used half the battery bar.I even did miles 55 to 60 with throttle only to attempt to wear it down on my last leg of the trip home and it amazingly still had half its battery life left--so 55 miles of light pedaling--assist 3 in 6th gear and 5 on throttle only and half used.

I have been riding non-ebikes for my whole life but after not riding for many years and now discovering the passion again at 64 I decided on a Giant trance e +. Dont be mistaken you still have to pedal and its still hard work, its all about pace and effort, push and get a great workout, cruise and see the sites. I just did 28km yesterday and pushed it and average 135 bpm HR. So you can get a good workout and enjoy the scenery. Its a great option.

I did have a Trance E 2 for a test last week for one day and I loved it. I weight only 72 kg so I did not find the weight such a big problems except on jumps. I did climb 5 hills and pushed it on trails. I made 60 kilometres on 2 and 3 mode to have 1 dot left on the battery. One thing that I did not like on straith gravel road when I could go much faster than 25 kmh the bike stops you. So more ride more fun less fatigue.

Thanks for showcasing the Giant. It's a game changer, under the radar e mtn full fat bike. Bought mine (Trance E + Pro 29 3 in Oct. 2020) 1700 miles now, flawless. Last summer I did 32 van shuttles to 9k, 15-20 miles to the car, analog Trance. Wasatch Crest/Park City, Deer Valley area, it has serious elevation. This year, no van, easily ride UP Armstrong 4 miles, then UP Pinecone 4 miles, piece of cake, of course pedaling the whole way. 24-mile day is the biggest, even then 43% battery left. Only added Diety flats, Ergon grips, went through one chain, one set of tires. Key is adding Assagai front, Dissector rear, total control as this 52lb beast charges on the straight downhills. MTX Gold pads. If you're already a Stance/Trance/Reign fan, this is a no-brainer. Yamaha motor is so quiet, 80nm of torque will rip your wig off. The chameleon color is orange, root beer, green, always evolving in the sun. Get the wifey a Stance E, a little overpriced, ride together most days. I've considered the 39lb Orbea Rise/Specialized Levo SL but you need that spare oomph if you ride ski resorts or really good riding buddies. You will get fit because you ride way longer, key is cadence, nice even pedaling feels normal-do that for 17 to 24 miles, pack a bigger lunch, more water and damm you'll feel sooo good 4hrs later as your run out of trail!

just bought this bike to resume biking after a 5 year stop. I was used to 26 inch freeride/enduro bikes and i went straight from that to this bike. So, first impression: i'm not used to the 29 inches wheel, at high speed it is a giant flywheel, but it's a feeling, not a problem. Tight trails of course are better with a short small bike with small wheels but who cares? We are not buying an ebike for trial or bmx or park tracks. The bike is fantastic at speed, it's super stable, you have to be careful because she makes you feel less speed than what you actually have, you can make the mistake of turning or jump way too fast. In a climb she is even better, you don't need to manage the steering, the front stays firmly on the ground even at 25kmh on super bumpy terrains (tried on a road covered in random 10-15cm rocks and roots, 10% steep). The 24.5 kg she weighs are there only when you have to lift her to put it in the van, the center of mass is very low, she feels super light when you ride her. If i have to say a bad thing, and it's really hard to do with this bike, is that her lenght that makes climb and descent very easy, is also detrimental to bunnyhops and drops, it's hard to raise the front, be prepared, your first drop will be landed on the front wheel, this has been said in many reviews and i confirm. but hey, you cant have everything, every frame you ride is a compromise, and this bike is a compromise i like. Context: I am an65 kg 37yo amateur, not an expert, mostly experienced in park and downhill. the bike i ride is a M size.

I am getting older and my kids are getting stronger...I love that I can keep up with my kids and super fit friends who I normally could not keep up with and just have a fun day along side them instead of them waiting for me all the time. Im sold on ebikes and really dont care if people think Im cheating. Im off the couch. i looked at the trance E+ at a Giant dealership and was super impressed. I especially like the range extender battery piggyback feature. Not many have that.

My E-bike allows me to go out all day long & travel further. They are a wonderful thing. The fitness argument is not my problem. I don't have to justify myself to others, who seem to take issue with what other folks are doing. Worry about yourself. Simple. Had my bike for 14 months & now around 4500 miles. 48 years of age. I used to be in the gym, it got boring, now I am out in all weather 12 months out of the year. I enjoyed more fresh air in the lockdowns than I had in my entire life. MY bikes a Giant Explore GTS e+4. Thank you Giant for being so amazing at building bikes.

Thanks for this👍 . You mentioned the weight factor a few times. All the other ebikes I’ve reviewed on KZfaq are heavy with some being significantly heavier than others. I guess one just had to get used to the changes. I’m 72 years “old” and am an avid mountain biker but am finding that the physicality to climb the steeps is not quite matching the will to want to do it. Also… my knees get sore so an ebike is the way to go. Re the Giant - what are your thoughts? What is your recommendation? Jim Update (4 months later): have now had my Trance E for 4 months… absolutely LOVE IT!!! Doing winter riding now and… absolutely LOVE IT!!!

Great well balanced test ride but being somewhat more of a seasoned Clydesdale rider of several sorts… I’d seriously recommend to become more familiar with this Giant brand spanking new Ebike’s geometry and heavy weight handling considerations before one does decides to actually attempt any type of Bonzai rides

You will probably never go back to a regular bike. An Ebike will get you out more often and its a lower stress riding. When you get tired just push up the assist.

The E-bike is a ton of fun... but for top end fitness, it's a bit of a crutch. I'd suggest when you start to feel comfortable on the e-bike and your feeling your fitness plateau, go ahead and get that non-assist bike and give it a go. Best wishes!

2021 Giant Trance X E+ Pro 3 I purchased this bike in November of 2020 and loved the bike. But, in September of 2022 I began experience error codes on the controller which led to a dead bike. I would reset the controller by turning it off and on again to resolve the issue for a short time. This problem became more prominent where I couldn't ride the bike. I brought the bike to the dealer and they replaced the controller after waiting for 3 months. Unfortunately, the problem still persisted. They contacted Giant and they were going to send a new wiring harness, however, giant told them it would be 24 weeks until the new one arrived🤬 I was extremely disappointed with Giant's total lack of customer service. Giant seems more interested in selling new bikes then warranty and fix the bikes they already sold.
