Why is everyone obsessed with full tangs these days. I have plenty of knives with rat tail or partial tangs that have served me well for years.

You would have to ask Gil if there was a specific purpose for the slot in the blade. He collaborated with Stallone when he designed the knife. Since this was designed as a movie prop I suspect it was more a matter of looking cool and being something different rather than anything functional.

It was meant for axe to slide in there. There are only two knives like that in existence if u Google it You may be able to find picture of it

Yes, two were made with the axe blade. Stallone has one and Gil has the other. The photos are probably ones that I shot. I am not sure if that was part of the original design or an afterthought.

It's a blood groove, it allows the blade to be pulled out easily by creating a really small chanel for the blood to run out of. It stops the suction effect caused by the blade when penetrated. The suction effect is a mixture of blood and forming a perfect hole the same size as the blade, if there isn't a blood groove to break that perfect seal the blade is significantly harder to remove. That's why blades made to be used for stabbing or meat work will have a blood groove. Katana blades have blood grooves. I guess blood grooves originate from warfare.

No, its a rat tail or stick tang (enclosed tang), full tang are the full thickness of the handle and separate the handle scales fully and can be seen as on Benchmade, Tops, Coldsteel and other's. although this is still a good knife style, and many custom knives use this because it looks great, it does not effect the overall performance as many Ka-Bar's also use this style, but still, I would not baton with them.

Gil does not use cheap steel on his blades. Maybe you are confusing Gil's handmade knives with licensed reproductions manufactured in China by United Cutlery at a much lower price.

BowieMaker I wish Gil had some say in the quality of the steel United Cutlery uses in these reproductions with his name on them.

@@BowieMaker I had one. He was like ten years in, when he made that one. My Dad bought it for me, when the first run came out. The edge was the most brittle thing I've ever seen.

That's just deliberately rude with no other reason behind it other than the intent to offend. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would do something like that to someone who they have never met and has done them no harm. Low IQ, poor impulse control is my best guess.
