I have to agree with Adrienne. Hollywood would rather cast a white person with a spray tan than an actual POC, and don't even get me started about the way they completely disregard dark skin. Dark skin should be equally as represented as white skin. I'm so glad that people are still fighting bc I'm tired of seeing the same basic storylines and characters we've seen over and over again.

They were saying that because it wasn't based on a 'real person' since it was folklore he could do it. Yes, he could have gotten a black person to act in it, but he wanted to portray his rendition of his hero. I don't see a problem with that. But I do agree with Adrienne when it comes to stories based on real people.

but in this case she is right there are certain rules that require ethnic look that is specific to that person such roles like Nina Simone they needed to cast a dark skin black women for that role it didn't make sense for them to cast Zoey I'm sorry but Adrian is right dark skin people in the industry already don't have any in representation so why not cast the correct people for these specific roles
@kimbo22813 жыл бұрын
@@with_Thandii Like Tam said, it's about who is going to make the producers money. If they did cast someone who is a new dark skin actor, that no one knows, are they going to make as much money as if the Rock was casted as the main character? If the Rock was casted, people know his reputation of putting out great movies, of course the movie would make more money, he is a well known actor. I understand that certain roles need ethic actors to look that part, but I feel that in this sense, I agree with Loni in the fact that since it was a folklore, it should be okay. Also, I do like people are downplaying the fact that the Rock is half black, and is a POC. As an Asian American myself, I understand the frustration in non-POC having main roles that are supposed to be ethic to that character. We are the least represented in the industry, and never get any main roles in movies.

I agree with Loni and Adrienne actually. Adrienne is right about Hollywood and their poor casting. But we don’t know what John actually looked like, it’s a folklore story. It makes me think of Jesus lol. In a the movies we see of Jesus he portrayed as a white man. But based on where he’s from etc. it’s likely that he was a brown man. But who knows?? We weren’t there to see. And what about Halle Bailey playing Ariel? I’m all for it!! I loveeee her. The difference between the phone is that the parents buy the phone that the teacher wants smashed, and the parents offering a visual warning to the children about things that the parent bought and the parent will throw away. Parents can decide what happens to their things and teachers should not have the same rights to student property destruction. A lawsuit repercussion was mentioned for the phone issue, but the parent isn't going to sue themselves for the toys they threw away.

@littlebean24944 жыл бұрын
Ariel’s story has nothing to do with race, she’s just a mermaid. John Henry though is known to be an African American man. National Park Service, “He symbolized the many African Americans whose sweat and hard work built and maintained the rails across West Virginia. He was a symbol for the black workers who gave their lives in these dangerous occupations.” There’s obviously a difference there.
@Somugaga3 жыл бұрын
Uh...no, Jeannie. You missing it. AND...Loni! We don't know if John Henry was black?! Folklore, yes but when has mythology ever NOT looked like the people who mad it?
Agree with all the ladies but at the same time.. it’s his studio, his idea to bring up the folklore so he can do it the way he wants and if people feel passionately about casting and giving more minorities opportunities, go out and start your own studio and you create the opportunity, why try to control his vision for his project?
@KaityJanee3 жыл бұрын
This is extremely tone deaf. He knows that John Henry is a dark skin Black man. And to take that opportunity away from the dark skin Black men who have the talent to portray the character and barely get casted due to racism and colorism, ESPECIALLY while being half Black, is lowkey disrespectful. Dark skin representation matters. And it’s way deeper than “it was his idea”... he didn’t even create the character. So if the character truly meant that much to him, he should have wanted to embody the character to its fullest extent. Race included. Idc

Simply put there's not a lot of people to fit those roles because alot of young poc (the next generation) don't want to be actors more so want to be rappers and crap like that. Maybe if there was less bad influence on social media egging on a certain lifestyle and stability in the home, they would get into the arts acting etc. Can't blame Caucasians for everything. They can't just pick up any black person of the street and make them an actor. You have to have talent and I that's what loni was trying to say before adrienne cuts every one off! I used to love listening to girl chat. But since Tam and Tamar left everything just became increasingly childish. And there's grown women on the show! For God sakes loni speak tf up.
