It's interesting if you remember in the Pilot, all Riley wanted to do was grow up (and was a more tolerable character); and now that she gets closer to becoming an adult and gearing up for college, life and whatnot, she's regressed in character development and become more childish (and annoying) than she ever was. Riley and Maya's character development throughout season three made it difficult to watch because of moments like the one above like I stated they've regressed, simply making them annoying.

I loved Maya and Josh so happy “someday” is the equivalent to they’re endgame. Farkle and Smackle are a match, I knew it right when we first met Smackle. They were nerdy cute and adorable. Lucas and Riley are Cory and Topanga. That’s the way the show was written.

Being a freshmen in high school, and being a young teen in general is when you start figuring out your identity and start having emotions that are sometimes hard to explain. That's why she is protective and wants everything to stay the same. When you find out something in your life is changing, especially during your teenage years, you become overprotective because you start identifying with that
