It looks more like normal Korean clothing from 2010-2012. The golden age of K-pop, one would say. I don't find it to look particularly gyaru [D] feels a lot more gyaru, but looks like Thai gravure, or something like that. I don't think anyone would wear that on the streets so idk why they were so keen on explaining it like with every other styles.

@@jeremiahsmith916 dying your hair is kind of a big deal in Japan. the nail that sticks out gets hammered. Also, for the shorts, I agree. @@krissydiggs yup, and it's not just dating. As far as I know, Japanese people tend to have very specific expectations towards others, especially other Japanese people. Even in this video, some said "if it was a foreigners/ if it was abroad". So they would cut gaijins some slack but god forbid a Japanese person dyes their hair or gets a tattoo. Same with outfits, generally expressing yourself is frowned upon.
@shadowstrike2594
@shadowstrike2594 2 жыл бұрын
@@aleksiskin there is nothing wrong with dying hair in Japan, it's not allowed for students but adults are allowed to do what they want, it depends on the colour really, if it's just gone from black to different shades of brown it's ok but if it's like gone from black to green it'll be understandably strange. The tattoos thing since u brought it up I'm assuming you know that tattoos in Japan are associated with Yakuza/ the Japanese Mafia, people aren't allowed tattoos because if another Japanese person saw them they'd be afraid of you, especially the older community.

Where I live it’s beige. Beige and white. I think what it comes down to is that in the west everyone wants to express themselves a lot more readily than here. Here everyone is used to the idea of their outfits giving them an identity. Uniforms are like most of their lives so a lot of people seem to just feel comfortable fitting in. It’s a very different mindset for sure. But every now and again you’ll see a real individual or two. But somehow… even the individual type seems to be wearing the style that’s associated with the individual type lol. Like, all hip guys have long hair and metal rimmed glasses and cuff their jeans and wear fun patterns Liz All hip girls have a TOUCH of color in their hair, usually green or blue. Etc. For a person who is interested in fashion and social science it’s pretty neat to watch.

So do my parents, married over 50 years! Relationships in my culture are built on trust, not setting rules for your partner. If you can't trust them, no amount of rules are going to fix that. A - I like it, it's kinda cute and simple! B - I LOVE it! I think this would look amazing on any girl of this complexion and gives off elegance, femininity, style, purity and very alluring at the same time :) C - Contrary to most respondents in the video, I actually like this outfit. If in place of shorts it was a miniskirt I would totally say no, but shorts like this are perfectly fine for me, the rest is also very good and overall it feels balanced (its important for me personally!) D - Problem isn't that certain parts in isolation are too revealing, but more so that ALL of the areas are revealing all at once. For summer outfit I personally would not even mind her wearing the kinda cut like that (unless her cups are really big, in which case this would probably be a mismatch for the outfit and would make it look too vulgar and scream "look at me I want your attention and thirst!", which is a big no-no for me). For me the thing that triggers my artistic OCD here is the lack of balance. If she is revealing her chest like that then it would look better if she covered her bottom more, or do it the other way round (a bit like outfit C does it). E - Not my type, too baggy for my liking, sorry! It's not bad ofc, its just not something I would call "attractive". F - Same as with outfit C, like it, cute, not vulgar and probably comfy for day to day kinda thing. G - Nope, not digging the crazy colour cocktail on this one at all, its literally all over the place and makes my eyes kinda hurt. It also looks a bit cheap even if it turns out to have been made by the likes of Gucci or Versace. It lacks elegance and class. A more monotone colour with this design could actually work well though. So design-wise its not bad, but colour scheme - terrible choice imho. H - Definitely like it for the same reason as A, but I think it may not suit everybody though. But overall it does look cute and attractive. I - Also kinda cute and nice, the top may feel a tad bit loose, but I think if your cup size is big you would look spot on with this top. Its very nicely balanced and gives off mixed vibes between A, B and H for me. Conclusion: The winner is Yuta-san's haircut and his "afternoon shade" length type of beard. Have a great day everybody, love ya! :)

Disagreed with all of them, but I expected it. They thought the ones I like looks old-fashioned but I think they ones they like look old-fashioned. Interesting how that works. Oh and I loved G because I love psychedelic art. Also thanks Yuta I learned the words 露出 (skin exposure) and 目のやり場 (place to look).

I feel like Japanese people define old by the literal date without concerning the concept of retro, throwback, and "what's old is new" which I think are concepts in which young people in the western world generally have a good understanding of. 90s and 2000s by their definition is old. 80s to them seem to be the current retro. Even then, their pop music and fashion hardly reflects that era. I suspect it was only because of the city pop fad which started in the western countries that has influenced 80s retro trends in Japan to some degree. But generally I'm not seeing much retro in Japanese trends nowadays. Meanwhile in the western world we are literally reviving Y2K mall goth, 90s Brit boy fashion, late 90s and 2000s pop star fashion (Britney Spears, Paris Hilton or whatever), etc.. It's actually hilarious. The way they despised gyaru is a suggestion that it's far from having a comeback. Actually, gyaru first peaked during 1999-2000 with the ganguro trend. It's very much a part of that 20 year period of throwback phase. Late 90s Japan was also in the disco phase. It was also the golden era of Harajuku fashion. Anime also had a boom in the western world in the late 90s. Actually, I would day modern western trends are very much influenced by Japanese trends of the Y2K era.

I think it is important to draw attention to the right spots in an outfit. I agree with the statement that showing so much skin might be confusing and you wouldn't know where to look. Personally, it would make me question if they feel lost in their identity, which would make me uncomfortable to be around...
@Chir0n

@𝘿!𝙘𝙠 Riding ǤƗяℓ Ellie It is important to remember that all people are hypocritical, as it is part of human nature... But there is also the case of space. Perhaps the man with the braids sees his style as something that doesn't stand out, which would usually be amongst others who wear Japanese "street fashion style." Therefore, he would not stand out. For example, here in New York City, none of the men in this video would stand out, but perhaps in Albany, he may, as it is not a fashion center. However, it is important to take into factor I am speaking from my perspective, being a New Yorker, a Westerner, speaking through a Western POV with experience with the Eastern lens. Lastly, fashion has a point to its design and it is always a statement, and a failure in any type of fashion is to literally make it impossible for others to catch attention to the parts it meant to highlight.

The questionnaire/interview does not provide much context but merely a list A->H,I,J etc... As some answers attested to: Context changes answers: 1. The very minimal clothing: In the house or on the beach or in the bed ;-) 2. The very bright clothing: A background dancer would fit but not so much for Japanese fashion shopping 3. The exceptionally clean white dress: Too high standard of etiquette for one man but for another the epitome of classical beauty. 4. Clearly the Black combo one-piece was popular: It fits Japanese aesthetics and fashion standards - to go walking or shopping with such a lady would feel good, the attitude of the dress is someone who is meticulous in their attitude and demonstrates a subtle aesthetic considerate of others but also demonstrating real beauty... 5. The kiddy fun skin revealing clothing - maybe for younger girls it shows their zest for life and kawaii role but not for a man's serious love interest? Etc. Thus there's a lot of depth. But nonetheless the understated Japanese answers were very polite and considerate and balanced and as such impressive: A language to learn I would conclude from this study of women's clothes is all !

Considering how hot summers are in general, I’d say leave your conservatism for the winter months. As a mature woman in her 30s, I gravitate more towards A or B, but really, it’s a mixture of some of these outfits. “D” and “E” are the worst stylistically. “D” would be better if paired with jeans or khakis and a long, airy cardigan. “E” I would just cook alive in the summer heat as is. If the sleeves were shorter and hair up in a bun or something, it’d look better. “G” is typical in a beach setting or loudly express that you’re a tourist.

In the place where I live, men often do not pay much attention to clothes, but they do not support open dress like these Japanese guys. but something caught my attention. I noticed that most Japanese guys prefer a girl to dress according to her age, and prefer a style that combines the concept of classic simplicity and charm. I support such thinking. This is not the case where I live. It's like I'm going to Japan looking for a Japanese guy)

The first one I find attractive but think it makes the girl less approachable and more like it's going to be a very expensive date much like the one guy said. Most of these I liked (or thought were just meh) xcept the super short shorts and tank top (okay at the beach imo too) and the really weird baggy one. H was probably my favorite overall. Very cute Least favorite the baggy one. Just doesn't look good to me and non form fitting. If the strapless top didn't also have the belly shirt and super short shorts it would have been much better. Finally girls who go out in public like that imo often will look like they are looking for a good time and not necessarily a serious date. But that's just my opinion

I agree with them, for the most part. A, B, and H look good, F (I certainly don't mind the shoulders) and I are okay. The rest look like crap. That said, I'm annoyed they didn't include a single outfit with a NORMAL mini skirt, which I saw several girls in Tokyo wear, and which I like...Out of these, you either get long dresses and skirts like A, B and H, or ultra short ones like D and I. I wanted the in between.
